Senior Citizens

Hello all senior citizens of WA,

This is not going to be a regular blog tonight I am here for a rant of rants. I just received a Site Comment which yes I requested for one of my posts "Jobs for Senior Citizens".

This post was for promoting WA to senior citizens who are looking for a way to supplement their retirement income and having a difficult time finding regular employment because of their age.

I fall into this particular category and did not find the comment left very acceptable but I did approve and respond to it, I am also leaving my response below.

I have left the persons name and contact information off the comment that was left and if they happen to read this possibly they will think before leaving such comments for someone else!

Comment Left:

In the online world, Susan, there is no senior. This time they can freely write their stored knowledge and experiences from their long years of service. However, to others it’s the time for them to have rest. Yes, I’ve heard this from one of them. They have to take a rest from any job and enjoy life, spend their pension benefits.

But for those who are willing to help the young ones who are following their steps the online world is ready and open wide to accommodate them. They can do instructions in their own time at home while they are enjoying their rest..

So continue on posting and inspiring the seniors Susan. Maybe, many of them are not aware they are still productive upon retirement.

My response:

Many seniors today have a difficult time managing on the small income they are receiving since retirement. They look for either a part-time job or another full-time job to fill the void financially. This post was for those seniors letting them know they have options working online and not having to be embarrassed by a young manager refusing them a position because of their age.

Seniors have many things to offer in the workforce today not just their experience but dependability you do not find with the younger generations. I myself being a senior trying to live on a small pension which barely covers my expenses have found this opportunity to work online owning my own business and leading a laptop computer life working from anywhere I have an internet connection and when I want. Paying it forward to others is just something I feel is not just beneficial to myself but for others seniors in the same position I am in.

My Apologies

Please let me tell you all how sorry I am that this has gotten under my skin and made my blood pre

ssure rise.

Normally, this is something I would just stew about in my own world and not say anything to anyone about.

But after working and putting the time into doing these posts researching the proper keywords to use finding the proper titles for indexing and ranking I just felt betrayed of my hard work.

Thank you all who have come to read this particular blog post tonight but my sincere apologies for being so sensitive just not as thick-skinned or wide shouldered as I think I am :(

Feedback Requested

I do know that many here at WA are in the senior years of their lives and would love to know how you feel about this particular comment?

Susan :(

Hello Susan,

Maybe the comment was a little bit awkward, but quite frankly I did not see any iil-will in it. More naive than spot-on, if you ask me.

That said your reply was great, you definitely pointed out why you are trying to help senior citizens. That is a great calling card for your people.

Sometimes controversial comments bring out the best in us: you got one, you strived to reply accordingly and you did outstandingly.

Andrea,
Thank you - hindsight is not always the best sight to have
but after realizing this with the responses that I asked for
this was one of the best experiences for me at this point
learning that people from all over the world are not always
going to agree with what is on my website means I get to
give my opinion not once but twice :)

Thanks for checking this out and responding appreciate
hearing from you :)

As much as the comment sounded positive I did read a mischievous undercurrent . It seemed to me that any senior that simply decided they were entitled to retire and enjoy life were seen by the comment giver as not being helpful to the younger generation. I could be wrong, but that's how it came across to me. Personally I believe if you've worked hard your whole life you definitely deserve some 'me' time.
Jim

Jim,
Thank you for responding, as true as this is, many seniors
are looking for work and get denied because of their age,
I was putting this post out there to encourage those who
are looking for work to join WA I guess without reading
the whole post me just leaving everyone with the comment
that was left and my response is not going over like it
did in my eyes :)
Thank you so much for leaving your thoughts :)

I will be 70 next year and still believe I have a thing or two to teach the young ones as the 450+ blogs I have published within WA will testify to that.

I still remember when I was 50 and went for a job interview and this young whippersnapper half my age said - "I didn't know you were going to be that old"?

I turned around and walked out.

The point I'm making here is that Ageism is alive and well here and I guess all over the world and I don't think it will ever go away.

Don't let the not so good comments get you down Susan but rise above them and give as good as you get is my advice.

Have a brilliant Friday and the weekend to come.
Robert

Robert,
Thank you for engaging in the discussion this means a great
deal to me with your experience.
I follow all of your blogs and teachings, in posting this what
I neglected to think about in my dismay was the fact my
post was not included :(
The post was a promotion for WA encouraging seniors to
come find a place to learn and build a business earning
income while also finding something to fill their time :)

Thank you for reading I am grateful :)

No probs Susan.
The comment in itself wasn't really being discriminatory but the tone could have been a wee bit less condescending in my opinion.

I wonder what that persons thoughts will be when they get to our age.

Dare I say a better understanding or is that too much to hope for.

Onwards and upwards Susan.
Robert

Robert,
Thank you and very well said :)

Hey Susan

Yes hardship for many
Understood by few

As for you

Do not let the caugh
Take you into the coffin

😜

Just let go
And have some rest

Thank you, Fleeky :)

🎈 let go
;-)

Hi Susan
I get where this person is coming from - When he/she said - there are no seniors online, this is so true- no-one knows the age of people unless they tell people and the knowledge older people can share is also made relevant in this comment.
Unless there is a face, there is no age online :)
Some older people like to do what we do and others don't.
I really feel that is all this person was saying.
We all interpret the written word in many ways hun and you have no need to apologize- You are just sharing your interpretation :)
Carry on being awesome
Vicki

Thank you, Ms. Vicki - carry on is happening :)

Hi Susan,
I can see both sides of this comment, I tend to agree with Loes that I don't read any WA bashing, in fact, the commenter actually encourages the continuance of your post to attract both the needy and not so needy.
When I read comments I tend to read them in my own voice and sometimes that voice isn't always the same voice that it is written in. Don't feel sorry about it getting to you, you are showing passion :-)

Gordon,
Thank you for pointing this out - I just think sometimes
my passion for WA is so strong and my support of it
I will never let anyone or anything put a cloud over it :)

I thought both the comment and your reply were great, Susan.

I found the following comments very positive:
- "In the online world, there is no senior ..."
- "So continue on posting and inspiring the seniors Susan. Maybe, many of them are not aware they are still productive upon retirement."

I thought they were points that widened the scope of your audience i.e.:
- seniors who are looking to supplement their jobs,
- seniors who are unaware there is an online community they can turn to to channel their productivity
- seniors who do not want to be seen just for their age but for their continued productivity; where they will not be disadvantaged because of their age; where they can reinvent themselves.

Yes?

As I surf the net, I like to see the degree in which people's perspectives differ ... and it makes for a worldlier content.

Do not feel betrayed of your hard work. You have been supported. The comment enriches the organic appeal of your content.

Cath,
All very good points - and although I may not have cared
for the comment left it did give me the opportunity to
engage and respond - rant over - and moving on :)

Hi Susan, sometimes folks can get under our skins, we may not Like what is said or written, on the flip side it can give us the opportunity to engage.

Good response, Susan, no need to apologize for anything.

Alex,
This is so true and guess I need to get used to this
having a website and people leaving comments from
all over the world, I will get to leave my side of the
coin in reply - rant over - Thank you for responding :)

I believe this was a decent comment, written from another perspective, but certainly appropriate to your article. We all come from different backgrounds, socialise in different circles, and his circle is probably up standaard, and well provided with a good pension. And weather you are senior with a minimum income, and want an additional income, or you are a senior with a good pension and want to share your experience, both categories are potential clients.

Loes,
I did try to look at it that way but for some reason
was just not wrapping my head around what they
had to say :(
Twofold in my response because I am a senior
citizen and secondly I feel he was knocking WA :(

I don't read any WA knocking Susan

Right on Marley, that was a great response. Good for you!!

Kaju

Kaju,
Thank you, you are a sweetheart :)
