Today I want to touch upon CDN

You may already have come across this kind of service, but for those of you who haven’t, CDN stands for “content delivery network” and in simple terms is a network of servers that deliver pages and other Web content to a user.

The process takes place based on the geographic locations of the user and both the origin of the webpage and the content delivery server itself.

One of the most widely used, mostly free CDN is Cloudflare. It utilises what is known as a reverse-proxy caching service and you may remember from an earlier post in this series that we’ve already briefly looked at caching.

Cloudflare will fetch your website data, make a copy of it and store it on it’s own servers. Your site visitors will come via Cloudflare who will provide the content requested by your visitor from their own server (because they have a copy of your pages) …without the need for the visitor to place a burden on your own server where your WordPress is installed…making your site display a lot quicker.

Setting up CloudFlare is not that complicated but I plan to create a dedicated training on it’s configuration and set up in a post to be published later on in the year…so watch this space.
