TIP 3 > Update Your WordPress, Themes, and Plugins (Speed Optimisation)
TIP 3 > Update Your WordPress, Themes, and Plugins
By far this is the easiest and least taxing method to ensure our WordPress website remains both speedy and secure. It's a no brainer and pretty much child's play!
I always recommend that we keep our WordPress installation, all themes and plugins updated to the very latest version and I practice what I preach.
Not only does it improve our website’s speed, but it'll also help us keep our site secure, so it's an good habit to get into.
The one exception to this rule is when dealing with major new releases. So what do I mean by major releases? I'm talking about what is sometimes refered to as an "Alpha Release" X.0 versions.
An example would be WordPress version 4.0 or 5.0 etc. They are made up of the main platform and core software on which everything operates.
As such they are often prone to bugs when first relaeased and I wouldn't recommend you update to them straight away.
They are kind of tested by us users in the field who report back problems with bugs and performance issues which then get addressed in future roll outs of the software.
One of the most important considerations when updating to newer versions of WordPress is the compatibility with your existing plugins. Remember that before upgrading WordPress versions it's always prudent to backup your site just incase!
But in all other cases, keep your WordPress setup, themes, and plugins updated to the latest versions!

Hi Tony, Thanks for the reminder, 2 plugins needed an
update, with other things in my life its easy to forget the simple things.
I hear you Paul :) And it's normally the unchecked simple little things that can often lead us into major catastrophes. Hope you're having an awesome day
Hi Anthony.
do you know how to transfer all my programs and data from my old laptop to my new laptop? I purchased a bridge cable but I think that was a mistake.
Sandy
Hi Sandy, there are numerous ways you can achieve this..and one of them is using a transfer/bridging cable which seems the method you have chosen. Why do you think it was a mistake? If you send me a direct message/email I'll supply you with a link to a very good website article explaining the methods and procedure. Can you also tell me the operating systems you are using on both laptops. Look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers Roger, long time no see. How's things? How's the health side..hope all well. All the best, Anthony
I'm going to be on here regularly. I lost my job last year. I'm home and on Black Poindexter. I'll on here lots of time.
Sorry to hear about the job bud. With the spare time are you throwing yourself into your training? You're into your sports aren't you. Well I wish you well.
Yes, I'm into sports. I believe tonight they are two basketball games that I'm interested in, one college and one NBA. My college team comes on in a few minutes and my NBA game comes on at 10:30.
Good stuff! This should help a lot of people and it is very important to update regularly! Thanks!

Great tip about dealing with new releases. I upgraded to WP version 5 as soon as I was notified of it and it made a mess of my site. I'll know for when WP version 6 is released!
Cheers
Rich 😃
Hi Richard, I think we've all been there! WordPress will at least let you roll back...but my number one mantra when dealing with software, born from costly past experience...
Backup, Backup, Backup.
Thanks for your feedback and support..and have a great day.
