Inspiring Quote - Be Unafraid of the Crowd

I've always admired those who seem to have no fear about what others think or say about them or something they've created.

I think most of us feel insecure and afraid of the crowd at times.

We fear 'being wrong', criticized or judged.

It's probably what makes some of us take as long as it does to write and press 'publish' when it comes to posts.

There's always that horrible little doubt, 'what if' lurking in the back of our minds.

What if..I've written is not good enough...

Worrying unnecessarily about the opinions of others is also what stops us from stepping out and being who we truly can be.

So how do we stop the 'madness' in our heads?

  • Accept right now that there is no way everybody will like you or what you create. It does not matter. Positive AND negative will always surface. What matters is how you deal with it. Even JK Rowling has one star reviews!
  • Don't wait until everybody is on your side before you take action. It's never going to happen. If you do, you'll stay stuck. Put yourself out there regardless, unafraid of what others think or say.
  • Opinions can be helpful, even the harsh ones (sometimes). The key is not to allow your ego to get in the way. Don't give in to feeling hurt or angry as an immediate reaction. Give it a few hours... days even, and you may find what was said can actually help you to be better. If it isn't useful, throw it out and move on.
  • Remember an opinion is just that, what someone else thinks, not a fact, unless you make it so.
  • Don't be afraid to be seen here at WA - engage with others, answer questions, voice your opinions, create content. The more you do it, the easier it becomes.
  • Don't be afraid to make decisions about your business, your website... just do it. If it does not work out, you can always change it.

When you no longer fear the opinions of others you empower yourself to leap forward and stand out and that's when greatness emerges.

Wishing you a 'roaring' week ahead!

I definitely feel those words! I love how much of a feeling of ‘equality' there is here. No matter what rank you are, experience level, age etc. We are all people. This is my experience so far at least anyway.

Totally agree David! This is a very safe place and that makes it comfortable for us.

Another brilliant quote. It is a matter of not taking things personally. This is a business and as long as we move forward we will grow and succeed.
And may your mighty roar shatter any negativity around you.

Thanks Tania! I think is a lot of 'mighty roaring' going on at WA at the moment. ~Mark

This hits home for me. I have been afraid to put myself out there for WA due to the fact that I know from experience of feedback from most of those around me what their opinion is of trying to to this sort of thing....all negative......it has kept me from jumping out there in full force. Pretty much feeling like I'm in the closet with something I have to hide from others around me. These sort of thoughts have been on my mind lately and I have been getting more brave as each day passes. The only way I will ikely feel totally comfortable with pursuing this sort of thing for those around me to know what I'm doing... is if and when I actually make it to the point of being able to say..."Hey...look at what I've accomplished"....proving in other words, it was all worth it in the end.

Fear of the crowd is definitely something to overcome for some of us. But, I'm getting there!

Thanks for the post!

Thanks Cindy! I'm pleased that the post was meaningful for you.

Our fear about other's opinions comes from our past experiences. When we've repeatedly interpreted those opinions as "We're not good enough", we become fearful of stepping out because it becomes too painful.

The first step to liberating ourselves is realizing that in doing so we have been holding ourselves back, then the desire to change occurs and bit by bit we can self heal until we can 'roar' again.

The fact that you here doing what you're doing takes courage and I'm sure you will get to the point where you will be able to point at what you've accomplished and feel proud.

Well at the moment I am not sure if it is not my ego pushing me to the swag....

The ego is a crafty player Anne!

You have Humor, Mark, if you would see how uncrafty I am battling with my logo ....
I roar....

I remember a quote that I read some time ago:

"We should all learn to scare ourselves a little more often so that we can be afraid of less. " (Or something along those lines)

Nice post and I completely agree!

Thanks Quoc-viet. I like that.

We should become comfortable feeling the fear and acting anyway. The problem is most people don't embrace fear as just a feeling they can have power over.

Fear c an hold many of us back but to be successful we need to be brave and to be ourselves. Fact 18% of the population will dislike us anyway, no matter what we do.
We may as well just be ourselves.
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen

Thanks Karen. I like that, "We may as well just be ourselves.".

Absolutely, if only 18% will dislike us there's a whole lot more who will like us.
