What a Great Community!
Since joining WA a few months ago, I've really begun to feel at home. It's nice to have a community of people I can network with, bounce ideas off of and discuss things of an entrepreneurial nature with.
I hate to say it, but most of the people in my life outside of WA are stuck in a world I just want to leave behind. There are no worthy challenges for me there. I dread being asked so many times by the same people to explain what it is I actually do for a living (freelance writer). To top it off, I'm talking about people who have known me for years and should already know. It's even worse when I have to explain this to someone new who expects a typical, simple answer.
I know one other writer in my regular life, but he's even more of a hermit than I am. I also know one other writer on Facebook, but he lives in another city. The entrepreneurs I do know mostly run brick and mortar style businesses that have been in their families for more than one generation. I don't know anyone besides myself who builds or manages websites. So when it comes to talking shop, I have no one out there to do so with.
The typical weekend conversation goes something like this:
Friend: "Hey, what are you doing tonight?"
Me: "Got some work to knock out."
Friend: "Work??? Why would you want to work on a Friday night? Dude, you're crazy. That's boring."
Me: "Boring? I'm trying to build a future, here. What's so 'boring' about that? Don't you want a future? I find it boring to sit in the same bar stool for hours and complain about the same lousy job. How do YOU not get sick of doing the same thing every weekend, one decade after another?"
Then come the eye-rolls and the unconvincing, artificial smiles.
Fortunately, I now have Wealthy Affiliate and this wonderful, supportive community to immerse myself in. I can't even begin to express how awesome it is to feel like I've finally found "my people."
Hope everyone's enjoying their week. I just thought I would share that, since it seems like that might be a common theme in the lives of others who are new to WA.

The best thing about WA is the combination of up to date, relevant, easy to use resources and a Community of like minded, amazing people. I definitely feel I've 'come home' since joining.

Yes, it really is something, Rich. Before WA, I'd spend hours on Youtube, trying to hunt down pieces of information on how to do stuff like this. The free information there is all mixed up and comes from thousands of different people with very different approaches to how it's done. There's no order to it and few people are actually sincere about wanting to help.

WOW! thanks for sharing that with us Mark. Yes they say to change your l thinking you need to be around others that think like you. It's like having a cold or flu.
Don't let anyone be a negative nacy to you. Just stick to your new way of thinking and you will have success.
When you get success you can be relaxing in the swimming pool and your weekend conversation it will be different this time. They will be like
Friend: "Hey, what are you doing tonight?"
You "I'm going to have a big BBQ cook out and invite people over."
Friend: "WOW! I wish i could come. I got to go to work. :("
Then you will start having friends asking you how did you start your online business. You can Make a WA website and refer them here. If they sign up you get a commission.
You taking the time out on your weekend will pay off. People just don't understand it. Stick around WA and we can change your way of thinking. :)

You are so right! I limit my time around people like that, these days. As much as I can, anyhow. It's hard to even find anything to talk to with them, as we have little in common anymore. I'm enjoying creating sites and writing more than I ever enjoyed taking in their negative energy. Really glad I stumbled upon WA!
