Is It Really Taking Forever?

When you go into business for yourself, it's easy to feel like it's taking forever to realize any progress. In some cases, it may actually take a long time. But sometimes, it's just our heads playing tricks on us. This is why there are so many people out there looking for get-rich-quick solutions. Being impatient seems to be part of the human condition.

But here's something else to consider. How many of you have had other careers, before coming to Wealthy Affiliate? I've had several, myself. Not one of them worked out for me overnight. There isn't a single job I've had, at least those requiring skills, in which I ever found success right away. It's safe to say that most of us haven't. Whatever other careers we've had, they all took time to carve out.

So the next time you're down and wondering if you've made a mistake going into business for yourself, think about how long it takes to get any new career off to a good start. Think about the sleepless nights and how much schooling it takes to become a true professional. Is it really all that different, in that sense? At least this way, you can finally work on making yourself rich, instead of that old boss who never appreciated you anyhow.

Make no mistake, you're going to have to work for this. You'll have to keep up with your training and keep up to date with all the changes that affect the online community for as long as you choose to be a part of it. But this is true, no matter what field you get into. You'll always have to kow what's going on in your industry and update your skills, as necessary.

I'm not posting this to diminish what we're doing in any way. I love this more than anything I've ever done. My point is that if you wouldn't throw in the towel four years into law school, you shouldn't allow yourself to give up on this either. Your efforts will pay off, if you give it all you've got. And when all is said and done, at least you'll be your own boss.

As far as I'm concerned, that's better "job security" than most of us would ever get from a college degree.

Such good advice and something that needs repeating often. It is good that so many people write encouraging posts. Yes, it does take work, but it is very satisfying to be building your own website structure. So glad I found WA!

So true! The effort is definitely worthwhile.

Great Post and you are right because college student can't find a job in their field of study. It seems like a waste that they went to college but still, the degree that they got isn't working for them at all.

This program is the greatest thing in the world at least I think so. The program does work. It just takes hard work and effort to do this program.

Mary

Absolutely. You're so right about it being the greatest thing. It seems like the only thing a degree is good for is that it's a ticket to get a job working for someone else. Unfortunately, that's not always as good as they make it sound. I'll take this over that, anytime.

Yes because a degree and going to pay you anything if you can 't find a job. And (job) stand for just over broke so that won't get anyone anywhere. So that is why WA is the best platform to work at.

Mary

I thought online entrepreneurship is easy, only to know that it really takes a risk.

Indeed, it does. But the good thing about it is that you won't have the expenses of a traditional brick and mortar business. In that way, I think the Internet really saved entrepreneurship.

Totally agree with you. Awesome post!

Thank you, Shobhana. And thanks for stopping by!

So so true, I’ve been in my current job for 16 years, it didn’t take that long to be proficient at it, I’ve been at the same pay grade for the past 6 years and no hope of any further progression.

Imagine if I’d spend 16 years doing this instead!! Time will pass anyway so get stuck in and give it your all.

Great post Mark :)

I feel ya! I've been a truck driver, an auto technician, an assembly supervisor, a car salesman, and a restaurant worker. The restaurant job was my first, so there wasn't going to be much movement there. But there was potential in all the others and none of them worked out overnight. It's been such a long road and when someone I know asks me why I didn't just go to school for a "J.O.B." (Just Over Broke), I remind them that I'm doing exactly that for a business of my own and I'll probably earn as much in half the time that it would take to get through law school. No contest, haha!

Well written Mark and you are so right
Why would you give up on a paid study and this is what WA is all about and a darn sight cheaper than any kind of University and heaps more fun
Awesome post
Vicki

Thanks, Vicki. Yeah, it doesn't make much sense. This is so much more rewarding. Besides, depending on what your niche interests are, you can still make money exploring those other conventional fields in your writing. Not too shabby, I say!

Absolutely not too shabby at all :)
