Social Media Marketing for Newbies.

I have a personal facebook, twitter and G+ page but I don't use any of them other than to follow a select group of people that I'm interested in and to occasionally read what is being shared by them...I don't post at all. I don't have a pinterest account or any others so my knowledge of using these sites for personal use is extremely limited and for business use, nil.

It's only now that I am up and running here with WA that I begin to think about further ways of sharing content that I create and post to my site.

I checked out Kyle's fb fan/page training blog from early 2013 and whilst there are some recent comments I wonder if his video about Seth Godin's fan page still rings true (180,000 fans and only 9 comments to one of his posts) and whether having these various sites set up for sharing my content to would be either......

a) Not a good idea at all

b) Not a good idea yet

If the consensus is that having some sort of social media plan is a decent idea either now or later on (I've only been here a month after all), then out of the various sites out there, are any better than others in helping to build our business here at WA?

I'd be very interested to hear from fellow WAers about their thoughts and experiences in using a variety of Social Media outlets and, if successfully, how they went about it.

As always, thanks in advance

Mark

This is a topic I will be doing a training tutorial on in the future. It is on the list but not quite at the top yet. So all I will say right now is that YES, social media is very benficial. However which one is right for you depends on your niche, which communities and forums you belong to within the particular network, and how much you put in on a daily basis to share and interact with others.

Thanks Robert, glad we can always rely on you for a clear way on this and many other issues.

Your input is very valuable here and I'll certainly be looking forward to your training.

Cheers
Mark

Yeah Mark, we're in the same boat as you. We're trying to sus out social media as well ...
It seems that Facebook might be a goer.

So many people trying to do the same thing though, it'd be good to see if there are some making other strategies work well.
Thanks both
Mark

Friends of mine have a saffron growers network. They re-set up all their social media pages a year ago. On one of them they have had 34,000 hits. This total most likely won't occur for us as they have a product that is searched out (their website is always at number 1 on page 1). However out of a lot of hits some good must occur.

Certainly shows the potential Helen doesn't it.

Wish it was me. I started out with Facebook on my old computer. It was so slow that I used to take a nap while it was doing anything. So I got totally put off social media. Now I have to overcome this and I am finding it hard to do so.

i would like to recommend outsourcing or hiring social media expert for people like you and I who are do not know how to do social media for business......it will save you the hassle of frustration.

Understood Taher, but would I learn anything?

exactly what I asked myself. I think the cool thing about it is that you could ask the social media expert what he did step by step so that way you have an understanding of the method to promote. I'm sure he'll have to tell you after all you are paying him on a monthly basis I'd say don't ask until after maybe 2 months or 3 months. in all honesty they can handle everything on the basket for multiple social media promotions instead of you having to learn n manage multiple social media campaigns yourself. My advice is to use Elance for some guy only charges on a cheap rate per hour like $10 hourly even when he spends two or three hours a week on it definitely worth to try it because he will bring you and ROI hopefully so your campaigns can continue to grow and also I would recommend email marketing to hire an agent but do it one by one let me know what you think

It's well worth thinking about Taher, I might check out elance and see what's available.
Thanks
Mark

My pleasure, I am going to put you on follow I would like to hear great news updates about the elance idea ;) good luck

Thanks Taher, I'm already following you but I'll drop by your page for a proper thank you soon.

Hi Mark, I started a WA bootcamp site a couple of months back and concentrate soley on creating new content at the moment at least.

Each week I say to myself "right, this is the week that I start my social campaign" but it is yet to happen. Each time I look at either Twitter and Facebook for example, to me it just seems like a lot of self promotion. I know many people here who are doing well with social media and would disagree, but that's how I see it.

The best source of traffic surely has to be from the people who are actively searching for help and find your content in the search engines, as opposed to having it pushed into their face each day on social media.

I would much rather wait until I begin seeing some real traffic to my website and then add the social media follow buttons so that my visitors can follow or add me as a friend if they wish. At least these people are genuinely interested in what I have to say and will be more likely to read my posts rather than someone I followed because they are in the same niche.

I think social media can be a great tool for a brand that people recognize, but less effective for someone who's just starting out.

Personally, I'll be investing my time into creating quality content that people are actively searching for, then venturing into video and email marketing and introduce a social media campaign further down the line.

I think social media has great ways to help if you use it right their are groups you can join and people who may be actually be interested in what you are promoting all the best

Seems like a decent strategy Lee and one which I couldn't argue against.

I have just begun using Pinterest even though I have belonged for a while. It is super easy. You click the URL of your page and it adds any pictures on the page. You can choose which one to add with a click. I then have a Facebook Fan page set up so once I add the picture with a short description to Pinterest I can then share it on my fan page with the click of a button. I just started this last week so I have no idea the results yet.

Will be interesting to see the fruits of your labour Jerry ...come back and share them sometime won't you!!
Mark

I will definitely post my results.

I'm seem to get much better engagement on facebook and have more of a following there than on other sites I've tried. Although that still means very few comments, but I do get traffic from facebook, which holds much more value, in my opinion.

Good to know Chris, worth doing then!

Keep in mind, though, my facebook page is a few years old. You don't need to be on EVERY social network. For me it makes more sense to put in the time on one where I already have a following, then trying to build something from nothing.

Fair comment Chris, will bear it in mind.
Thanks
Mark

Mark I am in the same dilemma? I want to propose something to you, Mandomoreno & martstervt as well as anyone else that wants to join in. My proposal is to add each other on FB, Twitter and Google+.
Follow each other and share each other's FB posts. Honestly I don't know if it will help but it sure can't hurt.

My reasoning is this, let's face it to get more traffic to our sites is one of the main goals. As people visit it will ultimately help our ranking in Google as we will be building trust. I personally have a few hundred FB friends which I am almost certain aren't friends with the three of you. By sharing our post will increase our visibility which we ultimately hope to drive traffic/sales.

Let me know if you guys want to give it a shot.

Count me in. Sounds like a plan.

Not against the idea Marc but I need to know how to get going properly with any of these sites before I jump in.
Mark

Hey Marc, may I connect with you on Fb once I have my page?
