Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr Thomas Alva Edison!

Here is a man who gave us many brilliant inventions, including the incandescent electric light bulb about which he said (paraphrased) that he didn't fail each time it failed but that he ruled out ten thousand ways that it didn't work.

Given Edison's eminence it might be of some value to listen to some of the things he said during his productive lifetime.....how about this:-

"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

Or maybe this one:-

"Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time."

Do you think he might be telling us that to give up is the only failure? How about this one:-

"From his neck down a man is worth a couple of dollars a day, from his neck up he is worth anything that his brain can produce."

Could he be saying that physical toil, worthwhile that it is, is not normally going to make a man or woman their fortune but that working smarter not harder might be the route to "riches"?

Now we all know that we can get inspirational quotes for a dime a dozen on the net, but what about real nuggets from somebody who proved his worth as a genius inventor.

I think that if he suggests we should find a method of working smarter (online marketing for example) and carrying on relentlessly without ever giving up, then we ought to value his words and just get on with it.

What do you think?

Mark

Great quotes! We can all work hard, but if we don't take that knowledge we've gotten and use it to improve somehow then our hard work is not going to give us much!

Great quotes...
Ed

Cheers Ed

I love these quotes. I also like this one of Henry Ford's: " Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right".
Thanks for this post.

You're very right Adam, and the variety of inspirational quotes from iconic entrepreneurs can be a daily inspiration in our lives.

Love these quotes because they come from someone who has 'been there and done that' :)

I think that Edison was a very brilliant man and we should pay close attention to what he said. However there are many brilliant people in this land we call home that never reach there potential because they are afraid they might fail. However our school system for the most part teaches get a goog education then get a good job and live haply everafter. We should be teaching early in life pick your vocation and go for it. Learn what you need to and make your own life instad of making someone else rich. That has always been my phylosify for what it is worth

Too true George, it's still the case in the UK as well.
But many people are just not cut out for academia and would be better off follow their dreams of entrepreneurship.
Many of the most successful and wealthy business people made their fortunes by acting on ideas and seeing them through, not by having a stack of qualifications that aren't worth the paper they're written on.
