Hi - my sites are running PHP5.xxxx - does PHP get updated automatically, or do we have to request it to be updated - or is the whole WA platform on the same PHP version?

Hello Mark, if you require a higher version of PHP, then please contact SiteSupport and we can upgrade your server for you to our new server class.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/support

Cheers,

Carson

Hi Carson - I hope you and your family are all well.

Thanks for the reply - I did exactly that just after my original post, and SiteSupport upgraded me at the next opportunity.

Excellent service as always from the team.

All the best,

Mark

Hi - there is a plugin - Display PHP Version by David Gwyer, which is now v1.5 - that will show you.

My original question was because a MailChimp plugin didn't work in v5 - however site support placed my site onto a v7 instance of PHP.

Thanks, Mark

Eagerly awaiting Mark

All php versions at 7.0 or lower are NOT GDPR conform.

Here's some technical specs you may be interested in pertaining to the hosting at Wealthy Affiliate.

-- Server Configuration --

Operating System: Linux
PHP Version: 5.6.33-1~dotdeb+7.1
MySQL Version: 5.5.35
jQuery Version: 1.12.4
Server Software: Apache/2.2.22 (Debian)

-- PHP Configuration --

Local Memory Limit: 268435456
Server Memory Limit: 128M
Post Max Size: 32M
Upload Max Filesize: 32M
Time Limit: 120
Max Input Vars: 1000
Display Errors: N/A

Wish I could help. All the best.

I asked this question to Site Support a couple of weeks ago. They told me they cannot change my site's PHP because we are on a shared host.

However, I was also told that the owners are upgrading the PHP and other related stuff and we would be getting an update from them in the near future.

I have not heard anything since then.

So we all have PHP 5.xxx (as far I know). We don't have the latest version of PHP but I was told we are going to get it at some stage.

Hi Kewl - thanks for that.

I didn't expect we'd all be on different versions, but good to know for sure.

Cheers, Mark

Thanks, Mark.

You may want to check with Carson or Kyle and see where they are with the updates.

Have a good day.

Cheers,

Kewl (Devan)

Hi Kewl, it's been a few months since your post. Do you happen to have an answer already? Best, Laura

Hi Laura. Sorry, I haven't. I've been away from WA for about 5 months as my Dad was very sick and recently passed away.

I'm only now starting to return to WA. If I do hear anything I will let you know for sure.

Best,
Devan

Hi Devan, I'm sorry to hear that and wish you all the strength you need to get over this loss.

Welcome back however and I will be awaiting with you at the answer!

Thanks, appreciate it!

Hi - not a WA question, but a Photoshop one - I'm a newbie to this program.

I am creating a collage with 40 pictures.

All of the pictures import into a different

Mark, thanks for asking. I just learned something.
Barbara

If I remember correctly, you can also click on the image itself to select the layer. Where you click in the image cannot be a blank area. It has to have some pixels defined. I am not sure about two layers conflicting, however.
Best Regards,
Jim

Cheers Jim - I've been so used to paint .net for so long - I'm sure there are thousands of shortcuts in PS I've yet to find!

All the best, Mark

Just found the answer in case anyone needs it too:

When you select the Move Tool, you will see in the option bar a check box auto-select and a drop down list next to it. Check the box, and put layer in the drop down list. Now, whenever you click on an element that was not locked, it is selected in your layers panel.

Cheers, Mark

I'm happy you've got the answer.
Thanks for sharing it to the community.
All the best my friend.

Yes Mark, that's exactly how you do it :)

Hi.

I've been on-line for years, and made money from hotels and B&Bs using my booking program.

I have over 1000 users - however they in turn have had over 8m gu

You offer them tours-boat, bus, hiking, activity tours, surfing, restaurant, nite clubbing, singles, couples, 6gay and lesbian services, special events, etc depending on your niche market, location, attractions, events taking place, offers that you can package and sell etc. Theres heaps you can sell together with accommodation.

Hi Mark this is a tough one. You do want to change the face of your site, perhaps give your customers a way to move around the attractions, something like uber affiliate, just an idea. Good luck in 2016! Daniel

How about discounts at restaurants in the area, Movies shows or at least some kind of pdf that shows the best spots to go that are not directed entirely towards a tourist or newbie in the area. Places to shop, things to do with the kids etc.

I would say lifestyle type information so long as it was done in a limited and informative way and not an onslaught of "buy this" and "buy that" or, like Mike says, you might never see them again.
Katharina

Hi Katharina - thank you - lifestyle is a good angle to take.

I'm definitely not going down the "buys this" route - I've been here too long to think that works.

Cheers, Mark

Mark, if I was a guest at a B&B/hotel through your website and I'd find out that you are using my info to "hit" me with advertising, that would be the last time you had contact with me!

Yeah I get that - but the point of marketing is to market "things" to an audience that is looking for "things" - I'm not talking about selling them slippers they don't want... just looking for things that they may be interested in.

I'm the polar opposite from a salesman - I want to help.

Cheers, Mark

That makes two of us. Just follow what Kyle is teaching and you'll do alright. I know that you will step on a slippery slope with your original idea.

How about directing them to local leisure, like musea, walking trails, or cultural background of the area. These are the things i would look for on my hollidays while staying in a B&B

Hi Yonah - thank you for the suggestion - that's a really good idea.

I love looking into the history of where I'm staying - and I'm sure there is a great market there.

Cheers, Mark

Hi.

I'm transferring a site and domain from .net into WordPress.

The domain will be the same - but I want to ensure that old links, such as:

Looks like they have yo covered here

Hey Mark, looks like Ian has you covered. :)
Cheers
Darwyn

I use the "redirection" plugin.

This one is tricky for me.
I am having somewhat similar issues building my new site in GoDaddy to link to .. even WA... I could not give a good answer.
(yet).

I am weak in this area and need to study it closer.
-----------------
I will tell you if I discover anything.

However....... """this might....be a solution... I said Might.."
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Based on what I just saw in "go-Daddy" there is a feature that allows you to "redirect"
going through your account manager... then to "web Hosting"
you will see where to go from there.

I do not know what Hosting site you use.
But you can also call their help line and a tech will be more than please to show you the way.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had to call them myself when i improperly installed a SSL plugin that locked me out of my WPAdmin.

Check with Kyle or Carson, or Jay for this one.
My apologies.

Hi - if it is the same issue you're facing, the plugin Ian recommended below is exactly what's needed.

All the best, Mark

WOW! wish I knew what you guys are talking about, blows me out of the water.

haha - stick around, you'll pick things up quickly - what we're talking about is not something most people would have to deal with :)

Cheers, Mark

Use the Redirection plugin:https://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/

And do 301 redirects to the new pages. Won't affect Google results at all

Hi Ian - thanks for that, I appreciate it,

Mark
