Suspicious Email from WordPress dot com
Update thanks to Labman
Craig (Labman) left this link which explains what happened and why I received this email out of the blue
Wordfence blog - Solved: Jetpack Generating Mysterious Admin Email Change Messages
Mystery solved!
I just received a very suspicious email purporting to be from WordPress dot com
For starters, I have not tried to change the admin email address for this website. So alarm bells started ringing.
This site is not hosted at WordPress dot com. Like everyone else here at WA, my sites are built on the WordPress content management system but they're what they call self-hosted. Self-hosted doesn't mean it's running from a home computer, it means it's not hosted at wordpress dot com.
My WordPress dot com account uses the same email address that I have in my website and they got the wordpress dot com account username correct.
WTF is going on?
I thought to check the link in the email through http://getlinkinfo.com and got a report saying 'Unsafe'.
I'm glad I didn't click on the link.
The only link this website has with WordPress dot com is that I have Jetpack installed and activated but I haven't touched any of the settings.
Has anyone else seen an email like this? What happened?

Hello Marion,
Normally, I treat suspicious email like spam email and just delete them without doing anything.
Thank you for this warning.
First line Howdy Marionsblack, it should be Howdy Marion Black.
After regards at the end of the email there are spaces in your web address.
Not sure about the address the email address they mention either, is it supposed to be .co or .com
Thanks for helping to clarify this.
marionsblack is my wordpress dot com username. That's another reason why I'm a little confused. I noticed the spaces but thought that was so it wouldn't get turned into a clickable link. And yes, that email address is dot co not dot com.
Ok, I hate scam emails and don't like others falling victim to them.
One other thing, if it did come from WordPress, surely they would have put their logo on the email somewhere.
That email has several grammatical errors which is first sign that it is dodgy. Delete it, you know what you have and haven't done in terms of website administration.
No, I haven't Marion but I am suspicious of many things that come through the internet nowadays. I get at least 2 phonies per month by email.
