My New Toy
My New Toy
I read somewhere recently that you should buy the best microphone you can afford at the time.
I've tried using a plug and play microphone (3.5mm plug) which goes into the sound card and that was hopeless. Snap, crackle and pop!
Then I bought a USB microphone which sits on the desk. The biggest problems there were that I sometimes sat at a different distance from the microphone and it proved to be uncomfortable; I was bending towards my desk to get the best result from the mic while attempting to drown out the happy noises from the dogs (Miniature Poodles).
So last week I bit the bullet and went to eBay and looked for a headset with built-in mic. I wanted a bit more freedom of movement than I'd get with a desktop or hand-held mic. And I wanted to be able to type while I was recording.
I found a few options including a Logitech model which sits behind the head and looked to be comfortable to wear. But for a few dollars more I was able to buy the Logitech h390 USB Headset with 'noise-cancelling mic' Yay! those magic words 'noise-cancelling mic'.
It has a long USB cord which means I can turn my head and practice better posture. (Much better for pain-management.)
I tried it out today when I restarted my new training video. Comparing the output of the new mic to a previously recorded session using the old desktop mic left me almost speechless. I just had to share.
There are lots of more expensive microphones that I can't afford but I doubt if the output would be significantly better than the h390.
Now I can record longer sessions than before when I had to stop after each virtual paragraph. My first recording was 65 seconds long compared to a previous average of 23 seconds. I only stopped so I could listen to the quality of the recording.
Take a look at my new training at https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/choose-a-new-theme and let me know what you think.
Thank you for reading, you're awesome!

Very clear, I have 50% hearing deficit in both ears and had no problems! Think I might look at that headphone set myself, thanks for posting about them. :)
Sorry to hear about your hearing problems Kathy. I almost wish I was selling the headset it's so good.
I was born with the deficit so it doesn't bother me, I'm used to it! I've got the headset on my list, birthdays in a couple of months. ;)
Really helpful tutorial Marion What a great idea to have a test site. Recently I have realized how very important it is to master wordpress, google analytics and webmaster tools. I spent a lot of time and effort creating blogs etc but skipped over the important stuff. I love the way you get your message across in such a way that makes it so easy to "get it" thanks Marion
Your speech style is what we call unintimidating. You've given just enough information to get someone through this. Very good job.
Something is above ground in your system. That's what is causing the hum. Try grounding your computer case or other components. In cases like this it's simply cut & try. Or you can leave it, since it's not particularly disturbing and I'm talking as an electrical engineer.
The original video sounds a bit clearer at home Werner. Maybe the hum is the sound of me breathing? I do rattle a bit when I breathe and talk at the same time (getting older). Or maybe it's the rendering process.
The hum is amplified in transmission. But go ahead and blame it on your rattling. I do it all the time myself..
