My Awesome Idea for 2 New Sections at WA
Some people like posting and reading personal and/or motivational updates at WA, and other people don't. We're all different. I get that.
This is exactly why I propose the following changes to how things get posted to WA:
- Each time someone posts a blog post at WA, they have to choose a classroom to assign it to, just as you would if you asked a question or created training.
- There should be 2 extra sections created:
- Your Online Business Journey - a new "classroom" where people share updates on their successes, failures and progress with their online business. This would be a great place for successful members like Nathaniell, Dom, Jay, etc. to share what is working for them. It would also be a place for those who are less successful to have a moan and then get help from the more successful people.
- The Lounge - a non-classroom where people can let their hair down and post whatever they want, as long as it's not spam or offensive. Post photos of your cat, talk about your life, share jokes, have a laugh, whatever. But having it as a separate section would mean that members who just want to focus on the business side of things can ignore it, or can save it for when they have finished the serious stuff for the day. Also, nothing that happens in The Lounge would contribute to your WA ranking. This would be important because it would mean members cannot get to Ambassador status just by posting light-hearted fun stuff.
- Members can assign their posts to more than one classroom if it covers multiple topics in one post.
The problem with the current system is:
- If you go to the main activity dashboard, you just get everything all thrown in together. This is great for people who are looking for a Twitter style constant stream of random updates to keep them distracted from having to actually get down to work, but less useful for those of us just looking for the more useful information so we can actually make our online businesses successful.
- Although you can browse by topic by clicking the "Classrooms" link at the top, this only gives you questions and training on those topics. It doesn't contain any WA blog posts that might be about those topics. For those, you either have to search for them or wade through the "Wall of Everything" as it could be called. It would be good to be able to zoom in on one topic (e.g. email marketing) and find blog post as well as questions and training.
- As I said above, it's possible for members to reach Ambassador status, or close to it, just by being active. This is a problem because it means those with the highest WA rank are not necessarily the best internet marketers, just the most social.
So that's my suggestion. I think people SHOULD be allowed to post fun and personal stuff on WA, I just think it should be separated from the serious business stuff. It's how most online forums are designed, with on-topic subcategories of the main purpose of the forum, then a general "off-topic" section where people can just chill out and post whatever.

@Loes, I like that idea. If I'm going to buy something online I prefer the commission to go to someone I "know, like and trust".
That`s a great idea Loes, like me writing about Hi-fi products, it could give everybody a boost!
That could be a good idea, Loes. There would need to be controls in place, though, like people can only post to it after they've been a member of WA for a few months. Otherwise, it could become a dumping ground for spammers. Once word gets out, people could sign up to WA just to spam their affiliate links.
I say this with all honesty. If I was not a member of WA and I found out they had a section where affiliate links were allowed, I would probably sign up just to post my affiliate links. Even if it was restricted to premium WA members, it might be possible to earn more than my WA membership fee in affiliate commissions.
Good Ideas Marcus ! I guess "The Lounge" would be more like FB, which I dislike. You may not need another section outside of the 2 you mentioned. One for business and one for pleasure as long as the top earners participate.
I'd like to give up the activity feed sometimes but I have learned so many great things from skimming through. It would be nice to have a section without all the personal stuff mixed in.

Off the subject perhaps, but somewhat related...
It just so happens I am building a membership site at the moment...
So I have bookmarked this and the forum/post set up for the membership site will have this feature if possible...
Other things I want to build in includes
(1) A chat similar to what we have, but a more robust version, i.e. ability to also make calls, video calls, pass files and images, and even the ability to have group calls - something like Skype (which I use a LOT now)...
(2) Members will get certificates as they complete their training levels, i.e. downloadable ones they can print out and put on their "I love me" wall hehe...
(3) A more robust affiliate area for partners and affiliates, with more tools, analytics, ability to pay affiliates directly from the module, etc.
(4) A Drop Shipping module for those that may want to use the partner's products in that role...They would be able to take orders using eBay, Amazon, etc. and we will ship the orders out for them...
There is more that is different, but I can't let everything out yet, it is like building a castle, you have to complete one wing at a time!
