Is word count over 2300 okay for pages and posts?

Featured Comment

It is totally okay and according to many SERP tracking website analysis, Google highly ranks content with 2,000 words and up.

At least 80% of the content on my website is 2,000 words and more and I have no problems getting both high rankings and comment engagement.

There will be many so called experts that will say and believe that no one will want to read content with so many words. That may be true but if you create your content smartly, length will have no negative effect.

The majority of people who surf the net do not read all of your content, regardless if it is 2,000+ words or only 600 words. People like to skim through content, especially on a smartphone.

This is why it is vital that content makes use of Heading Tags and lots of white space. Both of these produce a better user experience and make it easier for your website visitors to digest your content.

So when you write content, especially long form 2,000+ words, use an H3 or H4 Heading Tag every 3 to 5 paragraphs and make your paragraphs short to provide plenty of white space.

Doing this will satisfy both the search engines that love to highly rank long form content and it will please the website visitor with content that is easy to read and skim through on a smartphone.

Thanks. As usual you give such a clear answer and solution to the problem!

Thank you very much for your excellent comments, Rob. Very well done and at the same time answering a lot of questions.

Marcel..

You are welcome.

My pleasure Marcel

not that I am an expert but I write what naturally needs to be in the article,,,, I don't think about word count but they range anywhere from 800-2300 words depending on what I am talking about. I think my average is about 1200 words.

It takes me a long time to write an article,,,,, and even longer to edit it.,, is this normal or am i really slack at writing..

I am pretty much the same as you, but probably take even longer to edit - like 3 to 7 times.

There are mixed signals coming out about the ideal length of articles and videos, and I can see advantages of each. I am more likely to watch a 1 minute video than a 30 minute one, and if an article is is one paragraph I am likely to read it before a 3 pager.

Having said that, if the writer grabs my attention in the first paragraph or two. I do read the longer articles.

yeah,,,,that's why I just write as to what comes natural no matter how long it is... and I try not to cover too many different topics in the one article.

Thank you, Rosie.

Marcel..

Thank you, Roger. Appreciate your comments.

Thanks Marcel

I am no expert, but I post 900 - 1400 words a blog (except my About Me page, lol), I feel that is good for the niche I am in. Just my input.

carl

Thank you, carl.
Marcel..

According to Neil Patel 80% of blogs on Google page one are 2200+ words. So i try to aim for over 2200 words. I have blogs over 4000 words but make them engaging.

Thank you, George.

Marcel..

Well you ask what is the point and what are you try to achieve maybe you will bore people but maybe you will inspire people and just what is you aim ???
You can get traffic with good content which can be done in 750 words then you will have three blogs !!

In other words just splitting one big article up into parts?

Thank you, Paul. for you comments. Does make sense and provides yet another answer for all of us.

Marcel..

Thanks for the information everyone. I'm getting close to doing my website and need to know these things.

You are very welccome, Doris.

Marcel..

the more the merrier!

Thank you, Jonathan.

Marcel...

Hi Marcel,

I try to aim for 1000 words. It "pleases" Google and it doesn't scare readers away from the site.

Hope this helps,

Luis

That's an easy approach, with minimal risks :)

Thank you, Luis. Very good advice..

Marcel..

That's really a matter of opinion. SEO advise seems to suggest between 300 and 1200 words. There is also the question of whether or not someone is going to read a 2300 word post. Retaining traffic is important. SEO suggests writing for 5th graders. 2300 words may be just too much for some visitors. I try to stick to 700 to 1000.

Thank you, Jim, for your good comments.

Marcel..

yeah, it's a bit harder to make a 2450 word article as readable as a 1200 one.

well...what if you can?
will you be able to get better rankings and engage your readers?

I agree with you, Rashed.A lot of work to create good content that will motivate visitors to continue reading a long post or page.

Marcel..

Hi Marcel
That's a good question indeed, well I'm not by any means expert or have any experience but I saw a chart from serpIQ on a blog and it shows that content with average 2450 words got the best rankings.

Thank you, Rashed, for your good comments.

How do I remove render blocking java scripts ?

Roddney is right...looked it up myself...yes, some work involved, Marcel...

Thank you, Arthur.

Marcel...

I have four and cannot fix Ias I do not want to play around with codes!!!

Thank you, Paul, I feel the same way.

Marcel..

Yes my site works great so I leave well alone !!

Here is what you need to fix all of that stuff. This is a great course on this site and it will make your site faster and get rid of that blocking javascript annoyance.

Thank you, Roddney, for the excellent link by marcus1978.
I have lots of work to do looks like :)

Marcel..

you can try some of WP Async plugins.Example: https://en-nz.wordpress.org/plugins/async-javascript/

But be extra careful! This is the thing with what you could break your website. Everything depends on Theme what you are using.

Thank you very much, Gints. your reply information is awesome.
I will just look for now..

How many MB should a page be ?

gintsg makes good sense...it's rather like Goldie Locks -- not too little, not too much -- "just right" needs to be the measure...

Thank you, Arthur. Gints is right..

Marcel

As less you can get. Think about images and don't put there hi-res images. 1-2MB is optimal. 1MB is perfect. Think about from site speed perspective, as more mb have your page as slower it could be.

Thank you, Gints. Appreciate your comments.

How do I add a iphone video to my post?

Thanks for the info.

You are welcome, Al

Marcel..

In your edit post make sure you click on text first then paste .

Thank you, Bob.

Marcel..

First you'll need to upload it to YouTube then you can embed it in your post

I like this technique. Thank you.

Thank you, Marion, for the training link.

Marcel..

While I haven't done it yet myself, I believe you first have to upload the video to either YouTube or Vimeo first. And then you can use their share code to embed it.

What does - Not Live - mean in PM page?

I clicked your post to see who has the answer, and Marion provided it. Now I know. Thanks for asking, Marcel.
Armand

You are welcome, Armand. The power of asking questions brings all kinds of great information for us to learn and pass on.

Marcel..

It's something that I've only noticed in the last couple of days. Not live means no longer a premium member so no access to private messages.

Thank you, Maron. Your answer does the trick. Nice touch I must. Kyle & Carson, are always adding new program information content for us to notice :)

Marcel..

does that mean you can be a member but no longer a premium member?
i thought once a premium member you stay a premium member until you leave.

When you leave WA your profile page and blogs stay just as you left them because many people take a break and then return. Websites are removed from the server when members leave.

thanks for the clarity marion
how do you know they are coming back and how long do you stay not live for?

No one knows how long someone will stay away or even IF they will come back.

i think it is one of the additions in the recent upgrade to find out the active accounts.
don't know the full parameters, kyle would be your man there but as bob says they have gone
phil

Thank you, Philip. Marion Black, above comment, indicates no longer a premium member, so no access to private messages.

Marceel..

Marcel, Don't know. Should we have a funeral? Is there a way to e-mail a PM or copy it from some other source? Can't think of anything else.
Barbara

Thank you, Barbara. Marion Black, above comment, indicates no longer a premium member, so no access to private messages.

Marceel..

Speculation on my part:

Does the message appear after you've typed in the recipient's name?

Are you certain that your intended recipient is still an active WA member?

Thank you, Bob. Thery are old PM that at one time I had replied to. It appears that Marion Black, above has the answer. No longer premium members so access to Private messages.

Marcel..

Thanks for the confirmation, Marcel. I just opened my PM inbox and I see that I have quite a number of older PMs from members who are marked as "Not Live".
