Hi everyone! I have a question and need your help please. Since I speak several languages I'd like to create a webiste which is available in different languages. Is it better to

While the online market is usually bigger and maybe easier to target when using English, it is probably less competitive and easier to become a true authority in another language. (Depends on whether or not the market is big enough to be worth it of course.) ** disclaimer: just using logical reasoning from a business perspective not necessarily personal experience **

Also the added effort of translating it into another language will take time away from creating more content and focusing on traffic/conversions. I would decide on one and if it works maybe then expand by translating... (Of course the translations would have to be good if your goal is to build credibility from the get-go by having your content available in more than one.) I'm also fluent in more than one language, so this is something I'm currently researching myself. If you do decide to go with two languages from the get-go, I would be very interested in hearing your results!

that's the problem I also thought about...I don't want to spend too much time on translating everything...I just thought I could probably get more traffic because not everybody speaks Egnlish but they have the same problems! thanks a lot. I will and please let me know how you`re doing also

you're absolutely right...I think it helps a lot and if you speak several languages I'm sure it's worth a try

There are numerous solutions depending on how you'll be managing the translations. The usual manual translation technique is to create a subdomain for each language, ie. http://www.de.fotolia.com (German) http://www.en.fotolia.com (English) etc. If you're hosting here, you can click on Domains on the blue bar in Websites & Hosting to create subdomains. Rich.

Thanks a lot for your help, Rich!

And, I have also heard that Google likes the use of subdomains for a multilingual structured site.

that sounds great! thanks
