Hi All, I own a domain name do I have to use the company I purchased it through? Can I create my own website and upload it to that name or is it best to have my own server first
You can point the nameservers to anywhere you'd like Steve.
I have some domains I purchased at Namecheap and some at GoDaddy - but they're all hosted elsewhere. You can change hosts when your site is new and you're just setting it up, or you can do so after it's got a bunch of content already.
Best of luck with it!
Dennis
You certainly don't need your own server to host a website.
You can host your site anywhere you'd like -- it doesn't need to be done through your registrar. In fact, as a premium member at WA, you can host up to 25 personally-owned domains here at no charge beyond your premium membership fee.
Thank you very much for the advice BobBarr, you guys really are going to open my eyes to all this
