Hi there! I'm Jennifer.

I live in Carmel, CA currently, which just happens to be one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places in the world!! So blessed. I have lived all over the world, actually - by the time I was 16 I'd lived in 6 different countries, and traveled to many more. However, in the last 10 years I've found myself more landlocked, so I'm hoping that developing a business I can run from my computer will enable me the mobility that makes me feel alive, and to share my love of the world with my daughter.

I'm a single mom of a one-year old little firecracker. I'm highly motivated to start making money from home and to create a residual income, so that I can spend as much time with her as possible. Fortunately, she is super focused and can entertain herself for hours when awake, though to be honest, she sucks in the sleep department. Lol. Hoping for a breakthrough there so I can have more time at night to work on my online business!!

I'm committed to only marketing products which are in line with my values - in other words they are beneficial (or at the very least cause no harm) to people and the planet. You won't see me marketing toxic products, no matter how lucrative the opportunity. My main area of interest is in health and wellness - I have a wealth of knowledge about holistic health and nutrition (went to nutrition school among other things), and worked for a while as a Personal Organic Chef. I also founded several non-profit organizations as well as a couple businesses over the years (including a foundation that works with indigenous tribes in Peru on creating sustainable economies for their traditional arts, as well as a television production company), so my interests are vast. But you have to start somewhere, so with that... I'm heading over to Getting Started to learn all I can about creating success here with WA. And with that... look forward to connecting with you!

Hi Jennifer,

I think you are one of the most interesting persons I have met here and I have 542 connections.

You have done most of the things I've always wanted to do but haven't had the opportunity to do as yet. You have traveled to many places, you founded non profit organizations and developed your own business. That is like 70% of the major things I hope to accomplish in my life. I am 23 and working hard to create the opportunity to achieve all my goals. You are living proof that it can be done.

Thanks for connecting with me. It has been a treat to get to know you and i am really looking forward to your Website.

Hey Kyle, I'm hitting you up...!

Ok, so my idea for a niche: Preventing Cancer naturally. Highlighting ways to prevent cancer and live a long healthy life. So essentially it would be a site that would bring together lots of different sub-niches, like preventing cancer with essential oils, preventing cancer with nutrition, preventing cancer through juicing, and far infrared saunas, and earthing, medical cannabis, and meditation, etc etc... Eventually I would want to develop a program that people can purchase for optimum health. I see the potential of it being a hub for information and PRODUCTS as well as practitioners. I'd want to gather advice from all the top doctors treating cancer naturally, in order to create a general protocol to prevent it, naturally.
1 in every 3 people gets cancer and that number is rising. I want to make a dent in that number. 3 of my 4 grandparents died of cancer. Both my parents had cancer by the time they were 60. This is common... way too common. I want to give people hope and happiness. (I've studied health and nutrition for 15 yrs).

This idea is big.... I DON'T have it all mapped out, and it's not a totally clear idea in terms of the larger picture... I am hoping it will become clear as I work on it, and start with some small aspect of it.

BUT, feeling like I should have a better over all plan before starting - I thought, maybe I should go through the training and create a "practice site". Something easy. So I have started a site which will feature toys that foster early childhood development (for toddlers), bringing together Waldorf, Montessori, RIE, and other philosophies on early childhood development.

BUT then I read someone's success story here at WA that recommends starting and focusing on one site. Not trying to do too many. I am very excited about the prevent cancer site (though it will have a more positive name/url... to evoke health, not disease, with the name of my business.) Anyway, now I'm not sure if I should just go for it and do the health site, and scrap the toys site, or continue with my "practice" site. I AM also very interested in early childhood development, as I have a 1 year old, so it's pertinent.

I'd love two things: 1) your thoughts on which site I should start with (even though I've already started, but I only just am starting Lesson 8). AND 2) I'd love your feedback on the Big idea site. Is it too big an idea to fit the WA affiliate site model? In lesson 8 you just mentioned you can tell if a site is an affiliate site by looking at it. I don't really want the anti-cancer site to look like an affiliate site, though parts of it could. But I'd want those parts housed in a beautiful "mother" site. Is that possible? Would I be able to create something like that here at WA? All and any of your valuable thoughts are welcome!

THANKS!!!!

And just to say that I am having SO MUCH FUN! I love this stuff. I always knew I would enjoy doing something like this. I've never tried creating a biz online before, but I'm a hard worker when I'm passionate about something. I want to provide for my daughter. My goal is to be able to support both of us on my salary from WA work in a year. May be a crazy goal, considering I am a single mom of a 1 year old and currently only have the time after she goes to bed, which tonight wasn't until 10pm (ahhhhhhh it's late nights for me), but I believe anything is possible!

Thank you Kyle!

So glad you are enjoying everything thus far Jennifer, it only gets more and more exciting as you see your business come together. It is great to have very bold and ambitious ideas (with your niche above), but my my suggestion is to keep it simple in particular when starting out. First get to a point of success where you are ready to diversify and you have enough traffic to diversify.

Far too often I see folks wanted to build out their idea first and then focus on getting the business to it, when in actuality the opposite approach leads to success. Focus on building your foundation, your brand, and creating an audience before you focus on getting too complex. It will lead to much more success this way Jennifer.

If you ever need a hand with anything moving forward let me know. :)

Thank you so so much for your thoughtful answer Kyle!! This is fantastic advice - to start simple, focus on the brand and audience, and go from there. I actually breathe a sigh of relief reading this, because for one it intuitively feels correct, and because it makes logical sense, but my big thinking was distracting me from seeing it. Muchas gratitude brother. I think I'm going to stick with the toys for now, I'm enjoying it so, and go from there. Bless!

Kyle Premium
Yeah, that is often times the case. You just need to simplify things and it will lead to much bigger accomplishments. It can be very overwhelming to think of the big picture when trying to develop your business, rather smaller projects and smaller increments will lead to much more substantial accomplishments.

Keep me updated with your movements!

P.j. here again, just stopping by to see how things are going with your training here at WA.

I'm sure by now that you have a good grasp on making money online, and hopefully you are starting to lay the foundations of your own online business.

It's exciting, right? To think that you are actually building a business online, a REAL business, is such an amazing feeling!

It's just the start of great things to come Jennifer, and over the next month you will be developing your site further and all being well, starting to earn from your website (even more exciting!)

Anyway, I just wanted to reach out and offer you some personal help if you are stuck or maybe need a helping hand, Just drop me a line if I can help in any way.

Before I go, I just wanted to remind you that if you do decide to upgrade to Premium, you can save some money. Please keep an eye on the countdown clock on your WA dashboard if you are considering this.

I really hope you've had a great first week Jan, and do drop me a line when you have the time and let me know what you think of the whole WA experience :-)

Hello Jennifer.

Welcome to WA!

This is not a race - take your time and only sign up for what you feel you have time for. By all means hold off on going Premium until things settle down a bit. You can always get Premium at a later date but you cannot go from Starter to Premium and back to Starter.

If I can help in any way, please let me know.

Wishing you all the best,

Hi Jennifer :)

Lovely to meet you! Sorry I got distracted by my kids while in chat which is often why people don't get answers from me :)

I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old so they keep me on my toes!

I am not sure whether you can post on other people's profiles in the starter membership.. but if someone posts on your profile you can answer.

Which means if you have a question just reply to this comment and I will get a notification :)

Oh and I see PjGermain referred you, he is awesome and will give you help!

Hi Lynne! Thanks so much for popping in : ) I have a 1 yr old myself, and surely am on my toes!
So it looks like you can't post on other people's profiles with the starter, so I'm grateful to have this connection.
I'm looking forward to upgrading to Premium, but I don't want to lock myself in before I can actually handle the monthly payments (I'm a single mom and took the first year of her life off from working to be with her, so am on a very tight budget).

Here's a question - If someone upgrades to Premium, and then after some years decides they don't want to continue with this platform, do you loose all your work? Can you somehow become autonomous with all your websites, or are you sort of locked in to this community? If you move them to your own domaines, is there anything that would be lost if you decide to stop your membership (other than all the fantastic support)? It may never happen that I want to stop Premium, but you never know what will happen in life, and I want to be clear that if I do need to stop at some point, I won't loose any of my work.

Thank you!

Hi Jennifer

It is a pleasure :)

I am sketchy on what the starter membership actually gives after the first 7 days are over because I signed up within 24 hours lol.

I do know you can leave Wealthy Affiliate and your website is yours so you can leave with it. Of course if you have a siterubix domain you would have to buy your own domain to move your website over I would think. Then you would have to also pay for hosting somewhere else... so it would be silly to move until you can afford hosting and domain... but by that stage you will probably afford premium lol.

If you become premium and you have your own domain and want to leave you just move your hosting elsewhere, I have seen lots of questions and answers about this. It looks like a really simple process.

There is still a lot of training you get for free. For example members can publish training too... I have published quite a bit myself. When I publish training I can decide if I want that to be available to everyone (as in starter members too) or just premium members.

I make mine all open so everyone can access it, so you are welcome to check out my training :) So you can search for training and I am sure you will be able to find something relevant that is open to starter members.

Don't upgrade until you are ready and comfortable with it and can afford it.

I do suggest that as soon as you can afford it you jump at the chance :) It is incredible what is offered and you will be able to do so much more and move faster.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Lynne

Lynne, I've got a question for you! Ok, so I follow certain blogs... at one point I signed up for something or other, and unlike most emails I get these days, I didn't unsubscribe, because sometimes there are blog posts that interest me enough that I'll take the time to read them. Most of these blogs/websites are in the area of holistic health, which is going to be the general area of my niche. Now, these sites are pretty massive. They look nothing like the kinds of sites people make (the ones I've seen) here at WA, which mostly look very similar... not a lot of images, lots of words, and they have a very specific focus and are selling something very specific, whether it be WA itself or a product.

So what's the difference between these blogs I follow (wellnessmamadotcom for example, or another example would be mercoladotcom), which are very professional and literal libraries of information, and what we are being trained to create here? I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around what I'm visualizing for myself - what I'm going to create here. Maybe I just haven't seen enough people's websites... is there a way to see more examples of the diversity of what gets created here? And maybe what people create here can grow into one of these more vast websites in time... I'm just not clear if there's a fundamental difference between the two.

Thanks so much friend!!

Oh yes you can create a website like that over time. Often that will be with a paid theme, which a lot of members here didn't go for.
Some people pay web developers to design something special for them too.

There is nothing to stop you from creating a website like that. Of course it will take time and a lot of learning... but you build on to your website over time. This is not something that happens overnight.

I think you haven't seen a lot of the websites that some people here have created, that's all. Remember that the people that are here that are hugely successful don;t always ask for comments, they get organic comments!

So most of the websites you see will be newer websites. You will have to ask people to see their websites if they don't list them on their profile :)
Reply
MamaJP Premium
Thanks for your response Lynne! Just to clarify, I'm not sure what you mean by a "paid theme" ... you say that a lot of members here didn't go for that. What is that? Thanks : )
Reply
LynneHuy Premium
Every website has a theme...right? It is what the website looks like. People starting out, or people that don't want to spend money (often when they are starting out) use free themes.

Then there are also paid themes... obviously because these have a cost they are a lot nicer looking, and they have a lot more options to personalize
Reply
MamaJP Premium
ohhhhhh, gotcha. I see what you're saying, thanks!!
Reply
LynneHuy Premium
aaahhh an aha moment., I love those.

And you can start with a free theme and then one day change it to a paid one whenever you want to. However there are not as many free themes available on the starter membership here as there are on the paid membership and I don't think you can use a paid theme as a starter member.

Premium has a lot more benefits of course, but when you can pay for a theme you will probably already be Premium!

Nice! I saw below that you have chosen your niche now..., how exciting!!!

Hi Lynne, so apparently they offer a second week of the premium communications so i am able to contact you here again, but just FYI, when my free 7 day trial initially ended, I was no longer able to post on my own profile, even in threads already started. Thus my silence. Anyway, I have some big questions right now as I am soaking all of this learning in and evaluating my options... One question I have is around google analytics. I've been reading about how a lot of times in the niche affiliate marketing niche, people's businesses crash overnight because of google changing things up. What's the deal with that? Does WA teach you how to avoid it now? (I've read WA folks who had this experience so I guess it would be new training if it exists). How should I think about this? Thanks so much!! I have SO many questions, that's my style, I'm a real intent thinker, sometimes to my detriment, but I just think deeply about everything and want to understand everything... hopefully it helps me to become a master in the end : ))

Second Question of the day: At WA do we eventually learn how to create our own info products? At one point Kyle said that's where the real money is, and of course that makes sense, since you don't just get a little percentage. But of course you have to create the product, and so you need to have some authority... Seems like a logical next step once you get affiliate marketing down and develop good knowledge in your niches... does the WA teachings include this? THANKS!!!
Reply
LynneHuy Premium
Morning :)

Well let's just look at your first question. If you use white hat techniques which are taught here you will never have a problem if there is a Google update.

Think about it right, what does Google want to do? Google wants to match searches with the most relevant and quality content?

The Google updates and algorithms are there to make sure that the best matches show for searches.

If you do things the right way and write quality content and do everything according to their guidelines there is no way your website can crash.

Then for your next question, well I have created my first info product on my own :) Not to sell but to give away on my website to gain subscribers.

It was not easy but I did it. There are so many people creating training here that I am sure you will be able to find the information that you need.

I actually found a great free resource elsewhere on how to create your own eBook and I used that.
Reply
MamaJP Premium
So great, thank you so much Lynne for taking the time to answer me! I don't know what white hat techniques are, but I am happy to hear that the google algorithm changes are not something to worry about if we use WA. But then why did some people who went through this training say they experienced big looses? Do you have any idea? In any case, your words are reassuring, though I honestly don't understand the details of why : ) And so exciting about your info product ... yes, that's where I'm headed! Perfect!
Reply
LynneHuy Premium
To just put it simply white hat techniques refer to the right way to do things.. all the training here is white hat which is why I love it! Black Hat refers to any way trying to trick Google or take short cuts.

A good example of this is a while back one of the things Google loved was backlinks to a website. So if another website has a link to your website it showed Google that your website is quality. Does that make sense?

So when people cottoned onto this loads of people started buying backlinks as a quick and easy way to rank their websites. It is certainly easier than writing lots of quality content. So when Google realized what was happening they changed their algorithms and all website with lots of low quality links got penalized.

Now focusing on backlinks can be dangerous for your website. It is best to not focus on that at all and let it happen naturally.

So now backlinking strategies are considered black hat techniques.

Also keyword stuffing is a good example. People would just stuff their content full of their keywords... so now there is a thin line between a good amount of keywords and stuffing. Which is why Kyle emphasizes stop worrying so much about keywords, write naturally instead.

I hope this clarifies it more for you :)

So awesome. TY! I am very grateful for your explanations!! By the way, I have been checking out your websites... funny... my first niche is "smart" toys for toddlers (and I don't mean baby einstein... I mean good for gross and fine motor development, emotional and social development, etc... and all natural, non toxic). I wanted to be a mommy blogger too, but then got demoralized because the mommy bloggers I follow have been blogging for years and have encyclopedic websites (just so many articles!!), and I didn't see how it could make much money anyway. Enter affiliate marketing, apparently : )).... I'm also very curious about the make money online niche, but it would seem to me that I can't really sell that until I actually make money online. Wouldn't you say? Is it possible to do if you haven't made a dime online yet?
Reply
LynneHuy Premium
I would say that you can be honest and share about your experiences and say that you have now found a platform that teaches you how to make money online. Share everything you learn there. For sure why not? But of course you won't be very confident with that yet :)
I would say go for a passion first and really don't be demoralized by what other people do. If you like my websites know I started in 2012 knowing NOTHING. I now have 3 websites and I am loving this.
Reply
MamaJP Premium
Can I ask you a personal question? It's ok if you don't want to answer, or I can give you my email if you want to do so privately. But how much do you make now, 4 years later? And how much time, on average, do you put into your websites? I just am trying to get an honest idea of what's possible. I've read a bunch of the "success stories" here on the site, but half of them mention websites that are no longer even up, so I wonder what happened to their success. But I would just like to hear an honest answer to the question so many people ask, from a mama of young children.

And thanks, yeah, I'm going to focus on my passions and save the affiliate marketing for when I can honestly say it's changed my life and I'm supporting my daughter single-handedly with my earnings!! Can't wait!!
Reply
LynneHuy Premium
Well it really varies and a lot of it is in South African rands, not in USD...

I've also made a lot of recent changes to my main business, cut off my online store income... and spent a lot of time changing that website....

So I think my income is not what it could be because of all the changes.

Like I say it has varied anything between $300 for just after I closed my store to about $1000.

I am busy building on that....
Reply
MamaJP Premium
Cool, thanks for your honesty. Hmmm, definitely not enough to survive on for two, but I believe I can do it!! I'm just going to put one step in front of the other. Just starting to create some content now... fat recurring income here we come! I'm just going to have to work my buns off. And find a babysitter!!! ; )

Remember that this year I have had to spend a lot of time making changes to my websites... this is not my true earning potential. I am still sorting out things.

Last year I was making much more money with my store, so you do need to check what you are comparing things with :)

I know it is possible to earn a lot more than that and I am busy with increasing my earnings.

Only now am I able to put most of my effort into just writing :) Sooooo watch this space!

PS. Did you know that you'll already have your website built by lesson 4? Crazy, I know!

Hi there, thanks for the welcome. I am going to start with my first lesson here asap, but am just trying to orient myself with the live chat and how to best get questions answered first ... and I'm feeling like I'm in a race because I only have a week to use the live chat. Is there any way to get questions answered after the first week of my free trial? I'm a single mom and want to start making some money before paying for the premium... I did a ton of research on this program and others before joining and read of people who joined premium, couldn't keep paying, and then got locked out because you can't go back to the free membership. I'm hoping to avoid something like that by sticking with Free until I'm making semi-consistent money. BUT, wondering how I will get questions answered after the first week. Thanks!!!

Understood. Please click on my profile image and it should take you to my page. Send me a PM. I "think" that function still works for free members, but if not, i'll give you my email address.

OH, also, you can ask questions via the search box top and center of every page in here! :-)

Ok, cool, I wasn't sure that search option would still work... would you give me your email now, just in case I can't send you a PM once the week is up? I won't use it unless I have to : ).

By the way, how come you are here helping me? I don't think I signed up under you, or did I? (I thought it was through a guy John). In any case, I appreciate it!
