Hiring an Affiliate Coach?

Last Update: September 24, 2018

Hi Folks,

I have a couple quick questions for you and would greatly appreciate if you took the time to let me know your thoughts.

Q1) Would you consider joining a private affiliate bootcamp and have an expert affiliate coach to mentor you?

  1. YES
  2. NO

Q2) How long should the mentoring be?

  1. 4 Weeks (30 days)
  2. 6 Weeks (45 days)
  3. 8 Weeks (90 days)

Q3) What influenced your answers?

If you could answer below in the comment like this, I'd appreciate it!

Q1 - 1
Q2 - 2
Q3 - e.g. because I want to be coached by Jay or I struggle with staying focused.

Thanks!

Hello Grace, I'm so pleased that you have made it to Las Vegas, I saw your determination, which is fantastic.

You have some great promotional headlines for your future coaching business;

How my income grew from 0 to ......

My determination took me to the Wealthy Affiliate Internet Marketing Conference, all-expenses-paid!

How I went from 0 to an all-expenses-paid Internet marketing conference in just under eight months!

I can teach you how to make money online in just 6 to 12 months!

Thank you so much Roy! This next phase of my business feels like another mountain to climb in a sense. I thought I'd been starting another site already but man, there is so much more to do on this site first.

Man, if you're able to carpool you would be able to use some of that commute time to work on your online business. Yeah, that's tough. There are members that have been able to do this with a full time job and be able to quit. I could only imagine that they would need to work a weeknights and weekends to make this work.

Whatever hours you put into this Suzi, if you're able to make it work, it'll be SO worth all the hard work you've been in to be able to quit your job one day.

I wish you all the best in your efforts to make this, it will be hard but I know you could do it! :)

Q2 - choices would be nice. However, we all want everything in a hurry (30 days). We all want to know as much as we can learn (90 days). I think most of us would settle around 45 days so we can have our cake and eat it too. Of course cost would have a lot to do in our decision process.
Q3 - The need to expedite my learning process and I know Jay's reputation. Learn the most from the best.

Q3 - I like Jay's video trainings. There're questions: How many people will be in a group? Would it be mentoring if it'd be only one mentor on about 1000 people or more? Will be mentoring group inside WA? Will the mentor take a look at members' websites? Enough questions for now... I'm about 2 years at WA. I have 3 websites, but no commissions from any. I'm puzzled why. I asked for help, but didn't get any. Even Kyle promised to help me, but didn't keep his promise. I'd like a mentor to take a look at my websites and tell me what is matter.

Q:1 yes
Q:2 90 days is the normal average to start seeing results
Q:3 keeps you focused

My opinion I think an Affiliate private group would be good but I think the focus should be on Mindset. A lot of people struggle as most of the people do not understand that running an online Business is 70% is Mindset and 30 % is a system. You need a blueprint of what you are going to do and being held responsible. Blueprint everyone needs to make one for themselves but getting guidance on how to do. ( that is one thing many people fail)
For example, you can not move on to the next step if you have not completed the previous steps.
All the training is great but if the mind and the brain do not work together then nothing will be achieved.
You can bring the Horse to the water but it has to drink alone, for that the mind has to say drink.

Yes to a coach,

Time length should be an agreement between student and coach as everyone learns on a different pace.

I could use a coach because I struggle with items such as PPC and it becomes very frustrating when you do not have a go to person for help.

Q3 - This is totally completely new territory for me and while there is more than enough information available, it's very much high level and sometimes you have questions that cut deeper than what is available in WA and you need an expert answering it. Great idea Jay but don't make it too expensive!

I'm confused. Clearly not that unusual for me, but confused in the sense of mind blown! I addressed these same questions yesterday with all honesty (and maybe a little begging). Now, this morning, I receive a "Peace Out; I'm done helping" post from you (allegedly) stating you're done!! OK, I know I have partaken in some of your workshops and have always taken bits of information away from it and yes, who wouldn't want to be forehead to forehead learning from one of the best, but this has me all screwed up and pondering, what the heck is going on???

Q2. Option 4: 12 months and beyond

Q3. I am in one. It's called Super Wealthy Affiliate (Training) Group led by Kyle. Can it be more pro? Kyle is pro. Well we would love to welcome Jay on board too, although that's why Jay is doing the weekly awesome seminars!
Would I pay more than I do already for WA? No.
Should it maybe become a thing you can join instead of apply for? Maybe yes. And start whenever you like a 12 month period.

Only thing I and many others took from it is that it is probably perfectly well possible to start your own community around your own niche and charge for it.

Learned lots about it through a podcast the other day. I will in fact blog about it today.

Q3 - Honestly, I think that a 6 to 8 week program would be the most effective because it usually takes a month just to build out the site and content for some of us. It would also depend on whether this is 1 on 1 coaching or classroom/group style coaching.

If I could make a living within 2-3 months by joining the mentor program, I would gladly quit my day job and go at it full time and join... I would be willing to dedicate 16-18 hours a day to it on weekdays. (less on weekends though, since the daycare is closed and i'll have to help my wife to take care of the kids - big distraction there).

Q3. The Bootcamp training here is more than sufficient. I can only speak for myself but I believe why we fail to see success is because we do not take action or remain focused.

I've seen groups being formed, training created, case studies to follow and personally I feel that we are being pulled in so many different directions that at times it is so hard for some members to remain focused; always chasing the shiny objects - new training, new case study, new tools etc.
There is already enough content here to keep us busy.

I know everyone is trying to be helpful but they can also be seen as distractions.

Personally, I think we need to concentrate on those who have taken action and are focused and have given 110% to their business and are still not seeing any results.

I've heard of so many people getting 100s of sign-ups and not even one has upgraded or people being here for years and in the same boat.

I think this is where much help is needed. These are long-term members who have been faithful. They could have left after a year but as we've been told time and time again that we need to create high-quality content, low hanging keywords and the like, which many do, we're still none the better.

If members feel that they are at this point then having a coach to give us practical tips will be more beneficial.

Those who need to take action should go through the Bootcamp and apply the lessons then when they are at the stage where they have given their all and still not seeing results they should be 'coached'.

My few cents.

Thanks Jay.

Q2 - This is a difficult question to answer as would depend how much time and how many days a week the mentoring would be available.

Q3 - 2 reasons...

1. because you're reaching out to get feedback from us members who may need help and long to be successful entrepreneurs.

2. because i am unable to attend the live webinars which conflict with my work schedule.

Q3 - An expert affiliate coach should be actively involved in building their own business, staying current in their field, and having a life. So they should not have extra time to run a boot camp and mentor students. If they have time to mentor, then they may have outdated skills and knowledge.

Q3 - Whilst the training provided here in WA is second to none, sometimes we all feel like we need some sort of guidance along the way, and someone to motivate us too. Whilst I have a good grasp of how to build a site from start to finish, others can often struggle, and may need a helping hand along the way.

Personally I would love personal coaching for as long as it takes to

Hello from Sunny Florida Jay,

Is it getting cool up there in the Klondike yet? That what us Floridian’s call anywhere above the Mason-Dixon Line. LOL

I am going to have to say I think a lot of members here would look forward to having a coach, why not it’s being offered to them for free. Nothing like grabbing a few by the hand and walk them through a condensed version of the WA platform.

If this private bootcamp becomes a new feature here, who picks the selected few to attend this bootcamp?

What would be the criteria to be able to even sing up for it?

I feel by offering a private affiliate bootcamp you are taking away from the very aspect that drove me to join WA and that is the community the single most distinguishing factor that separates WA from all the other places and websites: the strong community to learn from was the selling point for me.

By others through blogging letting everyone know what is and is not working for them we as a community can adapt to market changes easier because it is thousands of eyes watching and seeing what is happening and allowing each and every one of us to adapt to those marketing and trending changes much easier than a private bootcamp could offer the community as a whole.

If this was offered at WA I think it will drastically change the platform and the path form what is and has been with great success, to something that will not set it apart from other platforms and I feel will in fact hurt the platform as a whole.

I ask this with no disrespect to you but,

Who would be this expert coach that does this?

Sure it would look outstanding on someone’s resume, but as far as utilizing the platform to teach the fellowship of the community I think it would be wiser if a weekly hot seat review of member’s websites was conducted and also do it as a video to be viewed by all when they could or have time to view it. This would benefit the community as whole longevity wise more than any private bootcamp would of could ever do for the community.
.
I feel that if two sites per week were put on the hot seat (Jay’s experienced website constructive alanysis) it would benefit the mass of the membership much more. But I feel this is going to fall on deaf ears because by presenting this out to everyone has already dictated that this is what you want to do, and are trying to convince others that this would be something that would benefit Wealthy Affiliate.

But to break down and teach a selected few as far as I am concerned is a waste of your time and will not benefit the community as a whole.

If this did become a feature here I don’t know if I would sign up for it or not. I think the biggest factor for me would be who will be coaching or mentoring it.

ON the other hand, I do feel you are a great training commentator/creator, I just feel it will eventually cause animosity in a community of members all striving to accomplish the same goal to own their own successful business no matter how they define that to be.

Sorry its just the way I feel,

Calvin

Hi Jay
I am a Personal Development Coach Jay and I love helping people with this, within WA.

When they need a boost or a motivational tip or a confidence boost along the way, I use my PD skills and some love to help them move forward feeling happy and ready to rock and I love the feedback they give from my help.

I have also noticed a few other members who do the same which is great for the members who are maybe stuck, not feeling inspired, feeling out of depth or many other reasons.

I get a lot of PM's from members who need some kind of help with "The brick-wall feeling" the I'm not good ... whatever it may be and I created a tutorial around these challenges.

With the WA training x 2 and all the wonderful support within the community covering 99% of everything members need, I'm not sure there is a need for more

Whatever you do all the best

There is so much excellent training on this platform (including your live weekly sessions), at least for myself having a private affiliate coach would be a redundancy.

1. No
2. -
3. I work at home, I fill in my own hours, I have no boss, I determine everything I do for myself. When I follow a course I do that in my own way, at my own pace and I don't want some coach to boss me around, telling me to do this and to do that, it would make me feel very unhappy and uncomfortable.
I love what I do right now very much. And I really like to keep my freedom of choices what to do and what not to do.

And I am sure, that a coach could lead to more earnings online, but I value the things I love to do more than I value money.

I think it is important to have some mentoring and sometimes it can be the make or break of our business. Some of us have really good websites, yet we are failing to just get that final push to see results. There must be a reason for this.

I hope this one is for real, as I have seen others come and go such as the GoGetters and people are left hanging.

If there is enough interest... and we can go from start to finish ... then count me in!!!

Thank you for your question Jay, I will answer it slightly differently as I actually had a successful Internet marketer coach me probably around 12 years ago. If I had known about Wealthy Affiliate at the time, I probably would not have had a personal coach. I wanted to have a personal coach as I had been working fairly blindly and spent a lot of money on spam programs, I could see the potential of the Internet, but I needed a guide!

Question one: Yes, I have used a coach.

Question two: My mentoring was once a week for 12 weeks, but because we became friends I had more access to my coach.

Question 3: For me, the coaching worked, however, if I was starting afresh today, I would just stick with the Wealthy Affiliate training as it is excellent.

Enjoy your day.

Question #1) YES!! Question #2) At least 8 weeks Question #3) I think my website is ready to go, but for some reason, we are not getting traffic. Also, we need someone to basically go over our site with us and tell us what else we need and how to find out what is wrong with it! We have done all the training, etc. and we still cannot figure out what is wrong?? We are so excited and we know we will do well, if we can just get this site exposed! Also, we keep running into little things like: how to put an affiliate link on our page that is not working? We don't know if it is the link or something we are doing wrong? How to put an email sign up page on our site, etc. We have spent weeks trying to figure some of this out. The community is great, but we need more intimate hand holding in some areas! Thanks!

People can't find my comment post to add comments. It's a hot mess. Plus it cost extra for CEO and access to all their tools. My main mistake was to buy a website that was the latest updated version. I had a nervous breakdown because of couldn't answer questions or to embarrass to ask myself.

Q3 - because I think Jay doesn't have much time to personal coach-> following this, I think Jay will have a lot of request from our members. By helping our members, how Jay can make a living while he personally coaches us? How about Jay's personal life? how about Jay's family?

For example, with the newbie, one-month personal affiliate coach would not overwhelm. After 4 weeks of coaching, it needs time to absorb the knowledge and do the actions.

Like his live study in 4 weeks with the website NFL football snack helmet-> after 4 weeks, his website already brings some profits back-> that's a reason I think 4-week is the appropriate time.

Jay needs time to break too, and for other members turn as well.

If that newbie needs 4 weeks of coaching again for new issues, the name should print on the waiting list for the second coaching.

I think if I got Jay's accepted, I need to arrange my time for max benefits for 4 weeks coaching, no matter first time coaching or second or third-> show some respect to Jay's time.

Just my thinking. I wonder about Jay's final decision.
Thank you Jay for posting this question :3

Hi Jay,

Q1 - 1
Q2 - 1
Q3
For me, the problem is not so much to stay focused. I am 6 months into my 2nd website (currently only working on that one only and plan to do so over the next few years). I have around 50 posts up. Doesn't sound like much focus here, but those posts are born in the middle of the night, because I am juggling through my schoolwork (principal of a private school of around 400 students), family, church, etc. That takes up most of my energy and time. However, I have managed to write well over 100,000 words so far. :-)

So I am pretty happy with what I have been doing, but I have sometimes thought that I would love a private coach every so and so often for a 3-4 hour block. By that, I mean that I would love to have somebody coach me one or two afternoons once every 4 -6 months, or any time format that you suggest.

The training here is great, but I feel that I am making some mistakes that many have done here, not because I don't follow the training, but because sometimes it is difficult to translate it into my niche and I am not always positive that things are going right. It may be small tweaks here and there.

I have received great help and motivation here, but I do not like to send out too many private messages asking for help, because the ones that are the experts here have their own business running and can simply not take the time to look into details on my website. And their answers usually look like "your niche is not defined", "the layout is not good", etc. Great and awesome feedback, but I need more details and exact feedback. I know that this happens because they can take a maximum of 20 minutes of their time to look at one website because I imagine they get hundreds of emails with the same inquiry, plus all the people that do not really want to do what these experts or the training says. Honestly, I do not expect these generous people to do more for me under these circumstances. I can imagine that I will not be able to do more either once I am successful with my business.

Yet that is exactly what I feel that I need. The training is awesome and I get a lot from there, but I want (more kind of feel) that an expert takes a deeper look into my website (I don't need him/her to read all my posts - but if he can look with me through 2 reviews, 1 best of post, and 2 educational/informative posts, for example, it would mean a lot to me). We could work together on it. Then I can go ahead and write another 50 posts, and do the same coaching again. Obviously, after maybe a few sessions, it would not be needed anymore. Just a suggestion.

I am sorry that I extended my answer, but I wanted to put that out as feedback for any plans you and the great WA teams might be making.

Thanks for taking the time to read,
Oscar

Another possibility is for WA to arrange for pairing Ambassadors as Mentors with WA strivers. Those that help the less financially successful premium members reach mutually (mentor, participant and WA) determined financial goals should be rewarded accordingly.

After all, a financially successful WA will be here for life.

The ambassadors here are just like you, members, and most of them are daily active on this forum. That's how they became an ambassador, by just being active.

Some reached this state by helping everybody on this platform
Some by creating 3 blogs a day
Some by creating training for the benefit of others.
Some ambassadors by hanging out in live chat all day

Some are financially successful, and some haven't even earned a dime yet.

The WA ambassador ranking doesn't imply that people are actually making money, nor does it imply that they have more knowledge than others. It only means that they are active on the WA forum, liking, commenting, creating or chatting.

Putting all these people under the same umbrella, and calling them all with the same title, doesn't make any sense at all.

You can't compare those who know, and I mean REALLY know their stuff, to those who just hang around and comment on every post, sometimes with just a couple of words, that passes under their nose.

I have given a politically correct answer without appointing someone or giving a verdict. Anyone who's here for a longer period, can judge for him/her self, and decide who to follow, and to like, and who not to follow, and where to skip clicking the like button, James
Reply

I can't agree with you more, Loes. Sadly enough, many newbies are taken in by people bearing special titles, only to eventually find out that they are hollow inside, and can't help themselves, let alone anybody else.

Thank goodness, I've managed to filter the good from the bad, from the solid to the hollow...and I also know when to like, and when to skip a click.

It is a pity, and a disappointment. She's one of the people I was referring to who REALLY knows her stuff.

Reply
Loes Premium
Well, Jay, glad I have your attention, for one, you might start with answering questions, send to you under your blogs, training and via PM. When you search deep, you can find at least 5 unanswered question from me alone.
So, yes #3 for Marion, she is more than helpful, she goes further than anyone else with her help, and this stupid algorithm is kicking her ass.
Reply
magistudios Premium
When you have thousands of questions come in via:

* Chat
* PM's
* Blogs
* Training
* WAbinars

You tend to miss a few.

But one of the lovely things about WA, is that it is a community and there are several helpful people that can answer questions whom are just as qualified.

So, does this mean that Kyle & Carson should be kicked off of the top tiers because they don't answer every question or is it just me? How about Marion? Does she answer every question?

The other part of this is time management and income.
I can spend 8 hours within WA and answer a plethora of questions and be happy doing that.

But the caveat to that would be

* Not spending the time working within my own online business
* Not building content and websites
* Not having time to myself
* Not scaling my own business
* Not scaling my clients businesses
* Not have time learning myself
* Not have time broadcasting WAbinars.

It's ironic as my intention of creating this post was to see and learn what areas people need help in and never thought I'd be personally attacked.
Certainly a lesson learned and will adjust my help-o-meter going forward as my time can be better spent than defending myself when I don't need to.

Or help more and be more active in the community Jay! there plenty on the ambassador list that are both more active and more helpful - just saying!

3 magistudios Helper: 90 Creator: 2 Activity: 76
4 Jetrbby80316 Helper: 10 Creator: 3 Activity: 10
5 littlemama Helper: 8 Creator: 4 Activity: 7
6 nathaniell Helper: 3 Creator: 20 Activity: 3

I could list the entire Ambassador rankings as it stands you are the least helpful and least active yet hold position no 3.

Don't take this as a personal attack - far from it just pointing out the ranking algorithm is very questionable, the number suggests (to me at least that Grace has better stats than you, only failing ever so so slightly in the creator rank. (by 2 positions) yet far higher in terms or helper rank and activity rank.

So to give the definitive answer are others worthy of top 3?..Absolutely..and it is pretty evident going by the number shown to us - Grace..single digits in all 3 areas no other member can claim that....

...(except the dude in the training videos that talks really slowly.....)

Can't really knock Jay's contribution to the community. It's not actually his job to reply to every comment. The whole point of the WA Open University Project was Kyle and Carson (and later Jay) were aware of their own inability to be everywhere and answer everything at once, so they made the platform the way it is to let others fill in the blank. Otherwise there'd be no need for an ambassador program in the first place.

The fact Jay doesn't rank top for helpfulness doesn't mean he isn't helpful, it means that others are stepping up and being even more helpful..which is how the system is designed.

Hi Dom, when you create training for WA, you also have the responsibility to maintain the training and answer questions which arise from them, and if you don't have the time to do it, you should hire someone to do it for you. I am too busy "creating" can never be the excuse to not follow up questions which arise from your own creations.

While I do appreciate Jay's contribution and I do find him highly knowledgable and helpful. I am only pointing out his ranking scores in comparison to other members.

Nothing against Jay personally at all - far from it!. 89 member have stepped up their game and became for helpful, and 75 more active..

I am not questioning his help or helpfulness at all but pointing out many more members are more helpul and more active..and those just as creative...yes, maybe they are more worthy of Rank #3 due to better, far better scores across the board!.

It is designed that way..to reward the more helpful, creative and active ones.

Q3. I started on this journey in 2006 - and still not making a full time living out of it because I just don't "get" it. I know it works but I am missing the key ingredient. I've done the training, was slapped by Google for PPC back in the day (the only success I had was PPC and now I am unable to do it) and have had numerous websites. My current niche is a passion that I can write forever on but just had feedback to say it is too much info!! Go figure because I can't work that out when everyone else says "content is everything".
And now I am unable to afford mentoring but for those starting out I strongly suggest they take you up on your offer.
I am one of those who learns by being shown and as good as the training and support is here I would still prefer a mentor to sit with me and show me "how".

Ensuring we understand all the important aspects of our new venture/business. That it is built strong and will grow into a solid, prosperous foundation. This idea would eliminate a large amount of the INITIAL second guessing and confusion associated with starting such a new and important commitment. We can't afford to begin on a weak foundation due to some little key factor we missed or didn't quite understand enough.

Q3 - Yes, it would be beneficial being coached on a private level by Jay or by a proven member of WA (meaning already making a living via affiliate marketing).

Coaches should be divided into two categories - (1) specializing in the WA Super Affiliate Challenge (2) general affiliate marketing.

I think coaching should not have a time limit of 4, 6, 8 weeks. it needs to be an ongoing service, however, it could be a paid for service for 4, 6 or 8 weeks at a time. Individual packages.

It must be one on one coaching as members have different needs and are at different stages in their business development. There needs to be some human contact - via Skype, Messenger, FT etc.

Bootcamp to me sounds a little like live training. It is excellent and we all benefit greatly from Jay's live training but the format is one of group training. The time is limited and it is not the same as one on one mentorship.

Which is sorely lacking at WA. It is the one thing that would really sky-rocket WA into a class of its own. It would absolutely make it a complete package.

Oh, one more thing - it need not be paid for coaching. In keeping with the WA tradition - proven financially successful WA members who are willing to give back could be part of the program.

I know whenever I reach that stage I will be so grateful to WA that I will be definitely giving back to the community and I would not mind volunteering my time to a coaching program.

Sorry for the ramble Jay but I don't often have the chance to express my thoughts on something I feel strongly about here at WA.

1. YES, but only after working through and mastering the fundamentals. Using a sports analogy, often the difference between a good athlete, a great athlete, and an elite athlete is not superior talent, but superior coaching. First, though, the athlete must master the fundamentals.

2. I would say at least 90 days, but 60 might be sufficient depending on several factors.

3. Going back to my first answer, reaching an elite level in anything is as much a matter of good coaching as it is good luck.

And to be honest, having Jay as a coach, who is that successful, surely that will help me to get on track and stay like that, so 8 weeks is really needed to get your daily/weekly routines rhythm done.
