Hey Katherine,

Carson talks about the BEST way to pull in images to set for a featured image that does NOT require a plugin. He talks about that here: Hope you find this helpful.

And that's fine for my two sites that are on WA's servers, but there's 1 or two that are on a different webhost that doesn't have that available, so that's what I was asking about that for when I just have WordPress's Media Library. It:s something to think about, though.😀

there are several plugins that allow you to search the free image sites and one of the newer free resources - created by wordpress themselves...
i have tried a couple but have fonud them sadly lacking in performance so at the moment cannot recommend them...
but maybe worth trying them as it may work for you...

Yeah, that's what I'm looking for, mostly, one that searches and uploads it to WordPress's Media Library I found one or two so I'll see how that actually works or if it works. Wish me luck;)

good luck
the ones i tried hung when trying to grab and compress the image - you may need to get in touch with support to allow them to work...
i hope you get it sorted...

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I haven't tried compressing any images yet. Most of my sites are on another host, btw, so either there's a conflict between plugins(likely) or there's an issue with webhost settings (possible) either with WA's servers or the one I use. I know one plugin, Updraft backup doesn't work on WA's servers, but it works fine on my other webhost, Stablehost, so all I can do is try. ;)

they have cut down on the number of allowable plugins here as they have experienced issues with members creating backups too regularly - this has the effect of reducing the available bandwidth for real visitors rater than backup data being sent to hte backup site...
managed hosting can be really frustrating - especially if you are used to standard hosting with cpanel access...
hopefully all your images are small in file size as this has a majpr effect on mobile speed performance....
when you are thinking about this then this training may be of some use

Feigner,

Yep. I wasn't really bothered. A little irritated, but not too much an issue. My other webhost has cpanel, so that's probably what the issue is. Thanks for the explanation.

On the plus side, Stockpack seems to be working with my Victory Infopublishing, but not Forever Evolving Mind, but there's also free assets, and apparently they have openverse that comes with WordPress 6.0/6.2, and I can connect my Google Photos, so I guess that's good. It seems to work with the featured images, so worst comes to worst, I can use that. I wouldn't mind if Free Assets or WordPress came with Unsplash, though, but so far, I'm getting what I want. No idea yet if I can compress the images.

Hey Katherine, long time no see. I never use a plug-in for featured images. I download it from these sources you mention royalty-free to my media library in WordPress, then optimize the photos with a plug-in Smush (for photos). I tried using my smartphone for some things I found it more challenging. Yes, it takes longer. It sounds like you need a new computer. I wish I could donate you a laptop. I would if I could. I hope you are alright. 🤟🏻!

It has been a while! I've heard of Smush for image optimization. Yeah, can be challenging, but there were workarounds.

We just got our computer cleaned and the CPU chip regreased, but there's only two fans and kinda not real speedy, if you get my drift. I'd get a computer with liquid cooling if I had the money, but I don't even have the money for another refurbished computer, which is what this is.

Thanks for the lovely thought. It's still appreciated!

Other than that, I'm doing OK. Pretty average for me.

If the weather affect your computer usage, it's definitely time to get a new computer :) Personally, I wouldn't use a plugin for something that I could easily do myself, know what I mean? You already mentioned all those great royalty free image sites like Pixabay, Unsplash, etc. Just use those for your featured image needs :) You can spice them up a little with Canva if you want to add any text.

I just got our computer cleaned, but it is a refurbished computer, and we just don't have the money to get another one.

The issue is that we don't have the speadiest fans in the computer, and there's only two. There isn't room for a fan in the front for inflow.

I did think that I could still download them to Google Drive and or the phone and share it with Google Drive. I could upload it from Google Drive to the media library if needed. :)

Thanks again, Eric! :)

I see what you're saying. Having to work from your phone was leaving you looking for a plugin solution. Yeah, building content form your phone is an uphill climb. Stay patient, take your time, and do the best you can, right? :) Keep up the good work, Katherine!

Yeah, thanks, Eric. I put my images for Koffee Klatch, Victory Infopublishing and Forever Evolving Mind (my personal spirituality blog) uploaded to Google Drive. It's not great, but it's something. My hubby gets nervous if the CPU is over 110 Fahrenheit. We had structural damage to one computer, and he doesn't want another to go the same way. I found a couple. Not the range that I would like, but better than nothing.

You can try Canva, and text to the image app.

HARPA AI | ChatGPT Chrome Automation Copilot

And use it with Bing Create.

Thanks, Abie. I have a subscription to Canva Pro, btw, so that works nicely, and they do have images... ;) I saw something like Stockpack, but for some reason verifying it didn't work. Other than free, the pricing is $9.00/month, so it's not unreasonable, but I'm going to see if I get help from support first for verifying it. Your suggestion helped, and I can upload images to Canva or WordPress from Google Drive. Thanks again. :)

There's an incredible deal here; I bought four packs - they never expire.

You're welcome :)

I got one of those a couple of years ago. I'm still working on it, but right now, we're flat broke! I don't even have enough for one code. It looks great, though, and I'm still real happy with it.

Thanks for the lovely thought.

Not a problem, I hear you :)

Has anyone used iThemes Security plugin either free or Premium on WA's servers, and is it compatible? I'd accept anyone's recommendations before adding it to my list of plugin

No I do not.

You would be able to see that in plugins and add new if compatible or not.

Thanks, Abie, I've decided to let WA security handle it for right now. I was just checking (see below, in case you haven't already. :)

All good and most welcome :)

Why would you want to use extra WordPress security when we have high-end security built-in with WA? That's part of Premium membership, awesome security measures to protect our sites.

Unless it's something related to a theme you're using? Otherwise, I'm confused... You shouldn't pay extra for more security when you already have top-notch security built-in with your website through WA's platform! 👍

Well, I use it on my other webhost, but wasn't sure about WA's servers. I'm not actually paying for it over at Stablehost either. I'm using the free version. :) But it *does* ban people who try to sign in with "Admin", and I don't use that username on Stablehost anyway. I hope that's clear. It's not on WA at all for the sites I have on WA anyway. ;) I wanted to be sure what's on the servers and the plugin won't conflict. So that's why I asked before I installed the free version, which is all I can afford, lol

Hey Katherine,

When in doubt, it's always best to ask. Good for you.

You can click on your website's Details button from your SiteManager: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites and then scroll down the page to see all of the Features included.

You should also note that you have two different types of caching abilities too: Accelerated and Extreme, so you won't need a cache plugin either.

I love the WA platform!

I was wondering why you asked about this. Now, I understand why you asked this question. The explanation you gave clarified this. The site security on this WA hosting is good. I would not buy that security plugin unless you use it at another hosting site. Are you going to migrate that site to WA?

I see, that makes sense! 👍

Glad to be of help, Colton!

It's good to know then, that the iThemes won't be needed here, just at my other webhost, which is fine. As for caching, I never understood that anyway, so I'm good here. Thanks a lot! I guess I"m just not used to Managed Hosting. lol! :)

Thanks, Brenda. Eventually, I get it, but just for my Stablehost sites. My curiosity has been satisfied, and I'm good here. But since at the other webhost I"m only using the free one, not the Premium which is iThemes Security Pro, I'm good here. I"ll use the SEO Framework on WA's server too, which is growing on me, lol. On the other host, I use Rank Math(just the free version right now.) Always good to ask first, instead of screwing it up and having to start over. :)

This is good to know. You might want to think about upgrading to Pro when and if you can afford it. I am a dedicated Rank Math Pro user. You will find Rank Math beats SEO Framework. I agree especially with the lessons. I know the feeling about screwing up and starting over. I've done that so many times. For the time being, you have to stick with what works best for you.

Caching makes your website load a LOT faster Katherine.

See screen print below...

WA is prime hosting! ;-)

Thanks for the explanation. But I meant the settings. At least I don't have to worry about it here at WA (just Stablehost, I guess, though they have Litespeed at Stablehost too. Thanks, Triblu!

I love Rank Math too, and as soon as I can afford it, I do plan to move up to Pro! They have a module for Divi, my favorite Theme (I'm a lifetime member, which means, no more bills). But it's just till I get finished with my OEC courses, then I'll probably switch to Rank Math. Do you have Rank Math for your WA sites or are they on another server, Brenda!

Hi, no, all my hostings and domains are here in WA. I never go anywhere else. Maybe someday I will try hosting elsewhere if my business grows really big. SiteGround looks interesting. Many WA members do host outside of the WA platform. That's ok—each to its own. Yes, I pay Rank Math Pro $59 a year- it is not that bad. I use the Schema theme (MyThemeShop) I have a close relationship with Bhanu the owner of both Rank Math and MyThemeShop. He has been very good to me.

Good to know that Rank Math works on that as well. I wasn't sure. I might just switch to Rank Math! ;) Thanks, Brenda!

No I have not…sorry

No, I do not use it, I can't afford their basic plan. Sorry. Hope others can provide you with the answers.
