No No No! If you want to sell website you will need to gain the experience and learn the website building here and then buy hosting from other companies selling that like hostagator or Wix and so on. Such a site you will be able to sell. I believe that the website here at wealthy affiliate is for members a lone.
If you have built website here and you want to sell you will have to move it to another hosting then you can sell it after.

Easy fella :) I have some experience in creating websites, I've built a total of 5, three here on WordPress sites, and two others on very different platforms. I fully intend to move the new fledgling site rubix websites to other hosting & domains. I was asking how the process works. So far I have not gotten the information I need. I was hoping to hear from those here in WA that have done this a few times. Thanks though.

I got you my sister but i have not done one of such before too so i may not be able to help. But i have gone through one of the training on moving the website process by kyle. You may need to check the training,

This question is not about moving a website. I need some advice from those who have built websites here for resale, using the Site Rubix subdomains. I have found someone who has done this and he is allowing me to PM him for specific questions.

I have often been emailed by website designers, offering me their services to build a better website. I guess they thought they could do better than my Weebly site LOL! Mostly I ignored them, but sometimes I'd send a quick reply back, saying my Weebly site was just fine as I did not need SEO for it.

It was only an informational site for a local business I owned and operated for a very long time. A neighbour of mine, solicited my help too when she was trying to build out a better website. I couldn't help her because she was determined to stay with the free version of a WIX website, which did not give her a whole lot of options.

I got to thinking that there must be a lot of folks out there, who just want to have a blog but don't know where to start. A facebook friend of mine, tried but gave up because she found WordPress too complicated on her own.

Thanks for trying though BStephen.

I recently just focused on redoing my overall look & feel of my website and I find designing a website very interesting too, more interesting than writing contents.
That's definitely one thing I would want to focus in the future. Very good topic to bring up Maddy!
I'll be following this discussion.

Thanks,
Jhie

Robert gives a couple of good answers

Read my Blog As Well.

There are a couple of members engaged in this but can't recall their WA name.
I myself used to do it years ago before Wordpress was invented.
I made good money at it as well.
If I come across those members I will get back to you with them.

I recently built my third website, and this one has the Gutenberg Wordpress built in. I have avoided switching my other two websites yet. I did try the beta Gutenberg plug in,

hello Maddy im silde from Ottawa im still trying to choose my themes and looking for that place to find free picture to use on my website. i feel so bad i just started and cant answer any questions when you are more advanced in the course i have so many questions myself

Thank you everyone!

I have been busy all day, building out the new website and just moved onto other functions until I got my answer. That will be tomorrow's job. I hate to admit it, but I enjoy working with Gutenberg on this new site.

I have not moved on over with my older sites, because they might break or have so many issues that will need to be corrected. I am waiting longer so all the issues get ironed out via other people's websites LOL!

P.S.- It's so much fun building a new website, I enjoy that a LOT more than constantly finding new posts to write on my older ones. This website has old images and content from a website that I used for a physical business (dog boarding).

I closed down that business in the Fall of 2017, and recently deleted the website for it at Weebly. However I saved all the content and images to rebuild it here in WA. Why? It seemed a shame to destroy it, lots of memories. My plan is to sell that website along with my retired Dog Boarding business when the time is right.

i take it the addon blocks for gutenberg plugin and the added panel down the side don't allow you to control the colour and fonts - even with css?

There is absolutely no way to change the Fonts in the Block mode. I have wracked my brain and eyes on that for hours. I gave up on that and decided to ask here in WA. If someone has a snippet of code that can correct this, I am all ears and eyes.

just found this arrticle -
https://wannabeblogging.com/gutenberg-wordpress/
adjusted as in the image
and it works - lot of hassle but maybe build up a list of what you may use and add it to your custom css

Thanks! I will definitely be trying this out!

Simple solution: use a Classic block and WP Edit will work.

Install the Classic Editor plugin.

I have been struggling with this for hours. For my Featured images on Posts, I like larger images for impact. The excerpts are smaller thumbnails but when the Post is opened,

Images can be such a struggle sometimes. Hope you find your answer, Maddy.

I have just the opposite problem....I want my featured image to be a thumbnail but they show as full page. I think Marion's answer will help me though. Thanks.

Go to appearance > Weaver Xtreme admin > main options and scroll down to featured image - posts. For hide FI – full posts select hide on all devices.

Now you can manually add your featured image wherever you like on your post and whatever size you want.

Hi Marion, I did that but there is no change. I downloaded an image for reuse, that is over 3000 pixels but when it downloads to my media library, it's shrunk to 275. I tried multiple images over 600 pixels and same result. The little photo looks pathetic at the head of my post. Some of my posts, I had no problem downloading larger images, they look great. On others, I cannot get to first base. When clicking on the edit function on the Featured Image (bottom right corner of my editing page), it just takes me to the Media Library, where I can only shrink images, not enlarge them.

Try reducing the image size down to 800 pixels wide. Then upload to your media library.

You could also go to settings > media and check the sizes that various images are set to. And take the checkmark out of the box to crop thumbnails.

I did that too, took all the sizes to 0 in Media settings. Next I will take the checkmark off for cropping thumbnails. I kept persisting last night, and just kept downloading images marked for reuse off Google images, some worked and others did not. There was no consistancy. I wonder if the image sizes for Google images are not the sizes that they are stated as. Who knows.

Go back to settings > media and put in the sizes that are recommended by WordPress. Setting them to zero could be part of what the problem is.

My original settings were 400 for medium and 800 for large. I had the problem before I experimented and knocked them down to zero. I may as well return the original settings, because it didn't make a difference.

I just checked my media settings and it seems it gone back to some default settings of zero for thumbnail, 800 for medium and 1400 for large. Do you recommend the sizes that you gave as example? 150, 300 and 1024?

The minimum size of an image should never be zero. The numbers I gave are those recommended by WordPress so yes, that's what I recommend.

Thanks, I have changed the default settings to the settings that you gave. I only changed the settings of the medium and large to zero after I was having the problem as an experiment, it made no difference. The setting on the thumbnail though was always at zero, so maybe that was causing an issue, don't know.

When I built my websites and added categories to organize my posts, I made some of them too specific to the posts that I attached them to. I would like them to be more generic

Thank you everyone for responding to my question :)

Rather than change categories why not just add a new one. You can list posts in any category that is applicable to it.

Derek

I've had some of my posts category changed but nothing bad happened.

Yes you can change things. I love that you have acknowledge that your site has matured past the start up phase and is now offering more / different value to your readers. You got some great advice below which will help you with thr transition. Good luck. Cheers

Hi Maddy
THANK YOU for having asked this question and to those who answered - I learned a lot from it! ;-) This is part of what makes this community so awesome!
Sharlee (Chocolate IceCream)

A post can have, or be in, more than one category. So, you can always add new categories and put the post into those as well.

Changing the categories will cause 404 errors. You can do so, but you'll need to 'fix' the potential errors, and depending on how many posts we're talking about, could be very time-consuming. If you want to learn more, Google the phrase, 'can I change my categories in Wordpress.;

That is exactly what I am worried about, those darn 404 errors! How about if I simply create new more general categories, and leave the old ones in the list of categories un checked? Will unchecking a category and choosing a new one cause a 404? I read the information on changing categories in WordPress, and deleting a category sounds like it will cause some issues.

That is probably the best solution - posts can appear in multiple categories, so, if the old ones are found in search results, you'll still get to the posts - but they needn't appear in your menus any longer, and you can use the more general categories to place your older posts into as well.

Ok, I should leave the posts attached to the 'old' categories (checked) and also attach the post to the new more general category?

Exactly - that prevents the recategorization errors from old indexing while making the site more user friendly with the new categories.

Thank you, that is exactly what I wanted to clarify. I would love to 'declutter' and get rid of some of the older categories, but not at the expense of more problems. Thanks a bunch.

You're welcome - from an external perspective, this will declutter things - you'll only see them on the back end.

I have been having image problems lately. My problem with images in one website (Weaver Extreme) were solved thankfully. However, my new website, with the IcyNets Simplic theme

Well.... I decided not to wait for a solution. I spent enough time on this Theme that was supposed to be 'simple'. I went and transferred my troublesome second site, to Weaver Xtreme, which I am familiar with. My first website is built on Weaver Xtreme. It looks fantastic. it only took me a couple of hours to fine tune the set up after transferring it over. It had a few difficulities again with Excerpt images, I couldn't increase the size of the images that get tucked into the top of the Posts, but their medium size was acceptable. The images with the Excerpts became thumbnail sizes as they should. I deleted the EWWWimage optimizer plug in, because it seemed to be part of the problem.

You may perhaps google some CSS code for an adhoc solution...

I suggested using some code, but the support tech for the Theme didn't seem to want to go there... I am guessing because he really doesn't know what's wrong with it.

It may be the theme and you may need to give the support for that theme temporary admin access to solve the problem. My suggestion would be to change the password as soon as they are done to prevent future intrusions.

You may be right and there may be some kind of code that needs to be input to change the sizing. There definitely seems to be a conflict of some sort.

That being the case, I'm sure that their support for the theme would help. Make certain that they tell you what changes were made, or make sure that whatever they do will carry over to future posts.

best Wishes,

Anita

I totally trust the WA Support team here, but allowing someone else access, makes me nervous. I keep thinking... he could place some other code in there, that I would not know about, that could cause problems... like a Trojan Horse. I am tempted to throw in the towel on this Theme and move the new website over to another Weaver Extreme, at least I am familiar with it and it has a extensive Admin section.

That's always an option. If you decide to do that, please watch the Live Video Class that Jay did back in October (I think). You can always search for "changing themes." I'm sure it will come up. Jay walks you through it in real time. Since it is a replay, you can always pause it and do the steps while you have it there in front of you.

Thank you, I have heard that it can be nightmare to switch Themes, especially if there is a lot of content. Marion Black uses Weaver Xtreme and has helped to make me more familiar with it. I actually quite like it now. Moving my second much smaller site was a piece of cake because it does not have much content yet. I have been meaning to watch that video yet, thanks for the reminder :) And thank you for trying to help me, it is very much appreciated.

You are quite welcome, Maddy! I'm so glad Marion has been able to help you. She is really good.
