I want to be able to showcase a portfolio that I can continually add photos to but don't necessarily need to do a full blog post for each of them, just a gallery of sotts

It looks like it should support portfolios but there are several unanswered issues on problems with this feature in the support for this theme. I would look to see if there is documentation inside the theme. There doesn't seem to be any available for viewing without downloading and installing the theme.

Might want to rethink using this theme.

Thank you so much. I appreciate the help.

I am just wondering if using tags for pictures and posts will help to improve site indexing in google. Thanks in advance, all the best everyone.

I am not sure what you are asking. What are tags for pictures?

Using image attributes in a correct way is absolutely essential for SEO. So if you tell me what tag is for you, I can say more.

You might want to see my training about SEO for images:

Using tags is not going to help improve your rankings so much. You may get ranked for some of your tags as well (it happened to me a few times) but in general they don't help a lot for the SEO. But you can use some tags in every post. Although they don't count that much in SEO anymore, I still use some of them in each post.

Thank you for the clarification, I appreciate it

I only mentioned about posts in my reply. For pictures it's good to add tags, especially in the Alt Text. It is good to use your keyword maybe in the title of the .jpg or .png and use a similar keyword to describe your picture in the Alt Text.

Great thanks so much!

Hello Analyse.
Search Engine Robots cannot read pics or images when they crawl your site and therefore you have to insert words that describe them.
This is a great opportunity for you to use great tags and keywords.
This of course can only improve your sites ranking on the SERPs results.
Enjoy your day.
Robert

Thanks so much Robert, that is a big help!
Best wishes,
Annalyse

No probs and don't you listen to those who say don't use tags or keywords describing your pics.
Every little helps.
This is a great webpage for info you should take note of -

This is another one you should read and remember your ALT Tag.
It is IMPORTANT FOR SEO.

I have tried a number of things and tried some of the tips I have found from previous people asking this questions but it still will not work. I am wondering if it is something

It (probably) all has to do with the way your menu is set up.

When you get into the 'menu' section, you can 'grab and slide' pages to under others, so the one it is under shows on the page and the other, just moved, will be on a drop-down list.

Mickeyb

Thank you so much, that is a big help

Ii hope it helps and good luck.

Mickeyb

I never saw your other question so perhaps you could send me a PM with specifics.

Thank you so much, I think I have resolved the problem

I had chosen my niche as landscape and nature photography, and now as I progress I am second guessing if this is a marketable niche and I will be able to make a profit using it

Have you tried looking at the gear used for the photography?

I have a Music Technology niche, and I review products in that niche as well as described techniques used to create music digitally.

Does that help?

Thats a big help! Thank you so much. I really appreciate that. I will definitely look into this more. I hope that all is well with you. Great niche choice!
All the best,
Lyse

You are very welcome, Lyse. I had doubts about my niche too at the beginning, but because I'm so very passionate about it I thought why not give it a go? I aim my site mainly at beginners because a lot of the sites in my niche are full of tech jargon and stuff. I try to boil it down so it's easy to understand.

Maybe you could write tutorials on techniques? I'm sure loads of beginners would love that!

Mat

That is exactly the spot that I am in, I was questioning my niche but it is something that I am so passionate about so I am definitely going to go forward with it. That's a really great idea! Thank you so much, I really appreciate your help :)

Lyse

You are welcome :) keep in touch :)

Absolutely, you as well :) keep chasing the dream!

Next stop, reality!

Great question. As I narrow down my niche, I try to differentiate myself from the competition in some level. Since you are from Canada, you differentiate yourself from American photographers. Canadian landscape is purely Canadian - there's a possible niche. Photography from North of the border! From the Ambassador Bridge to St. John's Newfoundland to Vancouver you have a beautiful country.

Thank you so much, that's a great angle that I hadn't really considered. I appreciate the input

How about, in addition to selling your own images, apply for an affiliate program for online printers. Set it up and promote the idea of others getting their pictures made into hangable pieces or postcards for their own use?

Thank you, that's a great tip

Hi, I live in Colorado, an area that has lots of really good landscape and nature photographers that all seem to want to sell their photographs. In your niche, you are competing against a lot of photographers and stock photo agencies unless you have it narrowed down.

In addition to selling your own photos, you might consider being an affiliate for camera equipment & supplies, frames and maybe even some travel destinations where people could take wonderful photographs or see the places in person.

Best wishes for lots of success.

Thank you very much for your input, I appreciate that. That was what I had been thinking too (marketing gear, etc). But as you said I am aware of the high amount of competition so I am second guessing the success probability that I could have.

I wish you much success as well

Don't give up on marketing what you really enjoy. The extra options just give you options. In this area, the best landscape photographers that I know seem to make most of their money by teaching photography classes and workshops. There is a huge market for photographers that want to get better.

Thank you so much, that is really helpful advice

For some reason, as I read your post and your niche, I thought of Post Card Photos. I love nature photos! I've always wanted pictures that I take, to look as good or close enough as those Post Cards! I know that when I was starting out, which is not that long ago...I'm two months in. It doesn't matter what your niche is right now, as you get further along with the training, it will evolve or possibly change (according to your research while doing your courses). What I'm saying is, you're okay with what you have right now...but as your mind soaks in the training and you'll gain knowledge on what to do next. I know I did. Hopefully this helps a little and shed some light. You have something great!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your input. It's something that I love doing but I just wanted to make sure that it's something that is feasible. I hope that things are going well for you on your journey

Yes thank you! I'm still just as excited and very eager to learn more and more every chance I get. The hardest part is being patient. I have a lot of work and content to put together, so that's a good balance between my patience and due diligence. You keep doing what you love and it will pay off!
