Water Crisis in Saldanha Bay Diverted Just In Time!
Last week we received news - completely out of the blue might I add - that Saldanha Bay would be without water in 7 days time. Now while we all know in South Africa that we are running short on water and many towns have strict water restrictions, including us, we never knew that a crisis like this was so close.
Cape Town which is 150kms away from us has D-Day looming - the day when the dams are completely dry and there will be no water. This has been in the news non-stop for months.
Thankfully a few days ago they released water from the Berg River Dam into the Misverstand Dam which is where we get our water from, saving us from running dry.
In other great news - there has been rain and never have we been so grateful for rain. When I was a child I would always hope for sunny days and if it was raining I would be disappointed. It was all doom and gloom.. It is interesting to see my children scream with joy when it rains and everyone you pass is smiling and we all give thanks.
The featured image is from yesterday morning when I stopped on my drive home from dropping my kids at school and got out in the rain to take a photo of the most beautiful rainbow to show my kids.
Suddenly rainbows are even more beautiful for what they symbolize!

Yes really a lot of people take advantage of the water systems and don't realize the impact not having water would have on a person. I happen to have a well so as long as it does not run dry or become contaminated I should be good.
Living in the U.K we are used to rainbows and rain. I cannot imagine how worried people were/ are at the thought of running out. I don’t think we ever appreciate enough things until they are gone.

Beautiful picture! My grandparents lived in southern California and would tell us about water rationing during droughts and dry conditions.
Where we live in the Midwest, our water problems are always how high the Mississippi will flood this year and will we be able to get to our house without a boat. Glad you are getting some needed rain!

We have also been loving the rain and feeling oh so grateful.
We passed our local High School on Thursday morning after the big storm and saw a group of pupils crowding around the flooded field taking photos of the water. Such a blessing.
Hope there's buckets more where that came from... We need a real flood. My son and I have been doing our rain chant for days. Hehe.
Yes my sister sent me some pics of all the flooding, what a relief to have some rain! We are going to need a whole lot more though!
Hi Lynne, may I share this post with some friends in my town? Our government has just given the rights to a company to pump our ground water for commercial sales. Many people who live here have wells and many run dry every summer. Our water comes from an underground aquifer which is fragile. We have no damn to draw from in my area. I would love to share your story. Thank god for the rain.

I read about the terrible water crisis down there. I hope you folks get lots of rain. I am grateful to live in a place that gets a lot of rain and snow. I can't imagine not knowing when you'll run out of water. Pretty rainbow.
