Practising Green Screen white sheet screen

I'm still waiting on my green screen to be delivered and I am so excited to start testing it out so I got an old pole from the garden (yeah its a bit grungy with some nails sticking out of it, but its all I could find) and tied it to the handles of the top cupboard in my kids room... then I hang a white sheet over it and took a video.

Then in Filmora I made the white transparent and put a picture behind the video.... and it worked... well sort of. My hair is blonde so some of my hair went transparent and then my shadow caused different shades of white... BUT I got the concept right.

I'm going to nail this when my green screen arrives. I will have to play around with lighting to get it right but this is going to be such a HUGE move forward for me.

I will so be sharing how to do this as soon as I get it right!

This is really cool! I just ordered a green screen kit myself. It includes the frame, three color backgrounds, and two lights...

This is something I have been meaning to do for a long time...It will help make my recordings and training a lot more professional in appearance (no more cat or other pictures in the background hehe)...

I also took the plunge and got a podcast set (2 mikes, a table-top swing arm, a preamp for 2 mikes with Phantom Power for the mikes, a table mike stand, a pop filter (2)) and will use Audacity to do the mixing prior to adding it to the video...

All cool stuff!

Cheers and I hope you have fun (too!)!!

Dave : )

Oh my word, well you are much more kitted out than me! I just ordered one screen :) let me know how all those goodies work out for you!

How exciting.

I AM really excited! I have two friends who have complete full-blown studios, so what I am getting pales in comparison...That is OK, my focus is not strictly on such activity, as what they are doing...

'Baby steps' is what I am thinking when it comes to this, and as I get more comfortable I will upgrade...Keeping it in perspective, and know I need to learn more before throwing big money at a high-end studio set up...

I think it will be about 8-15 days to receipt (ordered through a friend that has a shop here in Dubai - gotta help each other out hehe - I am getting the stuff at a very good price)...I can wait, the price is right!

Will keep you posted and also look for your updates!

Cheers!

Yes I would love to know. Right now I just have a video camera, a green sheet and two little desk lights LOL.

My proper green screen arrives this coming week (oh let it be Monday!) and I think it is going to help loads. I think my next investment should be some proper lights, but I know nothing about lighting... maybe you can advise me when I am ready to invest a little more money :)

I will ask my friends, just let me know when you are ready to make that move...they are experts at all this stuff. I'll ask them for some options at different price levels for you, that way you can go look at reviews and see what would work for you...The ones I am getting are just run of the mill quality... :)

Thanks Dave, yeah when I am ready I will probably go for something in the bottom of the range to be honest. I don't have much budget available at this stage for equipment.

Thank you, I will most certainly check with you!

I got the equipment in, and all is there as described...I will add one picture (I think that is all you can add)...

Second shot...

It looks great! I have no idea what happened to the delivery of my green screen, I sent an email this evening so I am hoping to hear from them tomorrow.

Third shot...

Green Screen set up for the first time...

I love the stuff....Can hardly wait to get going... : )

That is great :) Let me know how it goes!

What camera do you use by the way? I've got a Canon HF R86 Full HD Video Camera but lately the videos seem to come out blurry, I think I must have messed with a setting somewhere... oh dear.

That camera is a good model I think...Yes, likely just the settings...After I try myself and screw things up I open the manual hehe...

Right now I will start with just the smartphone I think...I am looking at reviews, etc. to see what is reasonable and easy to work with (tech and me do not get along too often hehe)...

Cheers!

My camera is really easy to use and works well... when I don't fiddle too much LOL

Yeah most likely just me!

Yaaay. Look at you go. Nicely done.

A great exercise!
When your Green Screen arrives, you know exactly what to do!
Keep going, Lynne!
Take Action, that's the way to go.
:-)

Thank you for keeping us updated on this exciting time in your professional life.

You will just have to put together a training on this when you get a chance!

This is so exciting to hear about! Looking foreword for the training!

The green screen is much better than a white background for chromakey transparency. You can also use a blue background/ Just remember to never wear anything that is close to the background color you intend to key out.

Yes I am sure it will be much better. I have a lot of blue clothing so green would work better for me since I don't wear green.

I am just playing with the white sheet at the moment, its all I have at home to make do with. My green screen is on the way, it should be here by early next week :)

For some videos, the white bg is fine as is. It allows you to stand to one side and add text next to you as you speak.

You are sparking ideas in my head :)

Hi Lynne, is this for video? :)
Do share how it goes later.

I will and yes it is for video. It is so much easier than I thought it would be.

I have just taken another quick video this time using lights, I am about to check it out in Filmora now.

Cool. Do you have a YouTube or Vimeo channel for your videos?

I am so excited I could scream!! It worked. Not 100% perfect but I can see that I am going to be able to do some incredible things.

Yes I have a Youtube channel :)

I will do a quick training on it as soon as I can!
