Yes this may sound like a really strange thing to say but this is how I like to think of my websites.

I have so many people asking me the following questions:

• how soon until I start making money
• how much money can I make from working online
• How soon until I can make a full time income online
• how can I rank my website
• how can I get keywords ranked

None of these questions are a simple answer at all. Here is a post I wrote about waiting to make money online:

But back to these animals of mine... a website is not a static thing. I can't say "oh if you just do this your keyword will rank on page 1 within so much time"... this is just not possible.

In fact I had someone recently finish college and he did some online course. He told me he was taught that if you just put a certain code (which they were given during class) into your website you will rank on page 1.

OMG what are people being taught? Sorry there is no "secret juice code" you can just put into your website. This is crazy. I wonder what college he went to and how much of his money they took from him? Oh dear...

The thing about working online is that every little thing you do affects everything else. When one little thing on your website improves it will have a ripple effect on everything else.

I'm going to use a recent example of how my websites are living, breathing beings and how everything effects everything else.

So I recently published some training and a question was asked about tags... I don't know much about tags and here is what I do know, my own personal experience.

I paid someone to design my first website and I asked my developer about tags. The response was that they are completely useless and have no value whatsoever so just ignore them.

Oh how wrong he was! They have a big effect on my website and I only found that out 3 years later (which is why I LOVE WA by the way... everything is here).

So firstly tags help Google categorize your content, so this can help your content rank. Then it also helps your readers move around your website. I have watched in Real Time Analytics how users regularly use the tags on my posts to move in between content. It is honestly really noticeable.

So if people are using the tags to move around it makes it easier for them right? Which means users will probably spend more time on my website right? So the amount of time users spend on my website tell search engines my site is quality. Up I go a notch in trust and rank right?

Then my users look at more pages, and the search engines like this too, so up I go a notch again.

So now maybe now a couple of my posts move up a notch in rank. And when that happens my entire website trust can move up a notch too!

Everything I do on my website from creating new quality content, to sharing it on social networks, updating old content... absolutely everything has a ripple effect on everything else.

It takes time for a website to gain trust and rankings, but when it does start it can only move up if you keep learning new skills, keep adding new content and keep updating old content with new things you have learned.

So everyone asks how long for this, how long for that? Well my answer is how long is a piece of string?

If you ignore your living, breathing being... if you don't give it the essentials it needs to survive and grow stronger on a regular basis it won't thrive.. it will die just like a dog that you don't feed or give water to will die.

Nurture them and give them what they need and the sky is the limit to what you will be able to achieve in the future.

So that is your answer to all those questions. I hope this makes sense and helps you to understand the nature of this business better!
