No Space IN Intensive Care
I was a bit stressed out and decided to drop everything and visit my relatives in Jamaica. I got a ticket and off I went to Jamaica. While I was walking to my gate at the airport to wait until the flight was ready, I heard an announcement saying "If you are carrying Samsung Galaxy Note 7 kindly report to security",
Although there was a recall some persons did not return their phones. I wondered if anyone would be so selfish to take a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on a plane knowing that it would be a dangerous thing to do.The flight to Jamaica was awesome, I really enjoyed it.
When I arrived home I immediately called my sister but was told that she was in the hospital. I went to the hospital right away. I learned in life that every sickness is an agent of death even a toothache. My sister was in fine spirits when I went. She had problems with her heart and needed to be fitted with a Pacemaker. This was her 4th time in the hospital and was just told she needed a Pacemaker.
Her 4 children decided to pay the US$4000 needed for the surgery.Although the Jamaican dollar is the official currency, prices are quoted in US$. It had to be paid before they would take her into the city of Kingston to get the surgery. A few days went by, there was still another test to be done before she got the surgery. Instead of doing the test they kept asking if the money was ready. One of the children said 'the money was never a problem we are ready".
The last test was finally done, my sister got worst, she could no longer breathe on her own. She needed to be taken to intensive care and put on a Ventilator.
A call was made to the Intensive Care Unit by the doctor who was about to transfer the patient to the unit. She was told that there were only 10 Ventilators and they are all being used so there was no point in sending the patient. The doctor then started to give her oxygen manually.
When I visited her on that day I knew she was dying. I felt helpless, it is not a pretty sight to see someone you love dying because the health system failed.
She had been in and out of the hospital and should have been told that she needed a pacemaker when she was strong enough to go and get the surgery done. It is a sad situation but My sister died and a part of me went with her.
RIP dear sister
Luna
