Green Ambulance Racing To The Rescue

Yesterday was our office Christmas lunch - for all three of us to go out, yip, that is the entire staff compliment, a whole three people! The restaurant was Turn & Tender, a superb South African steak restaurant (though you can also order seafood, vegetarian or vegan too) and the wine was a-flowing! Thank heavens for the trusty green ambulance racing to the rescue!

Orders From The Boss

On the way to the restaurant our employer gave us strict instructions to ensure he doesn't overdo the wine. Being the loyal employee this PA is, she took those instructions to heart.

You know they say "a calorie shared is a calorie spared" when it comes to dessert? Well, I decided to apply that principle to the wine. It was not much of a hardship after all, South African wine is known for its deliciousness.

We enjoyed a gorgeous red, full-bodied, multi layered wine, fruity, spicy and very soft on the palate.

This PA is not a regular drinker so shared a bottle of wine with one other person is a substantial amount of wine for her. The glasses were almost big enough to sit inside them! Our third employee decided to rather imbibe in Flying Fish - a delicious light beer.

Very proud of ourselves, we (the royal we) managed to complete the meal and the finish off the wine at the same time - perfect timing, keeping the boss in check.

And then ....

The waiter arrives with a massive white smile and second bottle of wine, sent over with a little note written on a serviette - from one of our suppliers "Merry Christmas" or words to that effect.

Already in the process of being opened and offered as a gift, it would be somewhat rude to decline. We did, as all polite (& slightly inebriated) diners would do and accepted the bottle.

I was at my limit, "no way Hosea" was this PA going to make it to even one glass out of the second bottle. We ordered dessert with haste and a cuppaccino for the boss.

Another half a bottle of wine down (I told you those glasses were enormous!), we departed Turn & Tender with a bold and generous gesture, gifting the remainder of our second bottle of wine back to the table it hailed from. Sharing is caring after all - and there were at least five people at that table!

A Gentle Walk Becomes A Fitbit Fest

We decide to walk the wine off a bit, just a gentle window shopping spree through the Mall. Our amazing and generous employer decided that it was time to purchase Christmas presents for his little team.

Knowing what to ask for as a gift is tricky enough when it's not sprung on you! Now we were under pressure to choose something we really wanted.

My colleague decided she would love a new but inexpensive watch. Whilst she was trying some on for size and aesthetics the boss's attention turned to me. "There must be something you'd really love, Louise". As it happens, I was in the market for a Fitbit - you know, those great little fitness watches that double up as a pedometer and maybe a heart rate monitor too.

My requirements:

  • The face must be large enough for me to see without my glasses (ever tried seeing anything through glasses whilst exercising? Yeah, not an easy feat!)
  • A step counter to help motivate this post Covid lockdown lazy butt

What did the boss insist on? The Full Monty! Yip, I am now the proud owner of a gorgeous Smart Watch which easily meets my two requirements and offers incredible additional value (makes me think of an online platform I know ... WA rings a bell)

Wow! Talk about spoiled!

To put things into perspective, this little business has just had its best year in 7 or 8 years - during the year of Covid. Everyone wants a top economists advice during a downturn. We are one of the few businesses that have thrived in 2020.

Where Did The Green Ambulance Come In?

Ever heard the expression "the morning after the night before"? Yeah, when one is suffering due to the actions of the night before .. the day before in my case.

Seriously, we call an ambulance for a mere hangover?

Green Ambulance is a well-known "regmaker" in this part of the world. A "regmaker" solves the problem of a "bubbelas" very effectively.

(Note: "regmaker" = "right maker" if translated literally or "a drink taken to relieve the symptoms of a hangover" according to Collins English dictionary; and "bubbleas" is slang for a "hangover apparently taken from the Zulu word 'isibhabalazi' also according to Collins)

Ja, we'll have you speaking South African in no time, lol!

The most effective regmaker I have ever encountered is a green ambulance, better known as Creme Soda, which is green in colour. Who knows what it is about this little bubbly wonder, it is a treat and has some kind of magic in it too!

Today called for the all essential Green Ambulance.

Does it work? Well, let's examine the evidence ... currently the time is after midnight and I am writing this very blog.

"The proof is in the pudding" ... or in the Creme Soda ... and mine was reduced sugar, no icecream.

How Does This Relate To Wealthy Affiliate?

When reality strikes and we have had a bit too much wine the day before, or a lack of sleep due to life happening with young children or aging parents, it would be tempting to take a break for the day, right?

Would it be wise? Not necessarily. My experience has shown that one day off can easily lead to two or more.

For me to really give my online business and participation in the WA community everything I want to, my best plan is to take that "regmaker" and soldier on.

A "regmaker" need not be the Green Ambulance. It could be a strong coffee, endorphin pumping workout or more sedate and frequent breaks to refresh your mind, take a short walk in the garden or just up the road. Make a call to a friend who will make you laugh your spirits. Stand up, breathe in, stretch, breathe out as you release your stretch.

What Is Your "Regmaker"

I have a few different "regmakers" - the latest new one is seeing how many steps I take to and from the car or a colleagues office; keeping a check on my heart rate. Man this Smart Watch is way cool!

I also do stretches, take some deep breaths, research something interesting, doodle, sketch, listen to upbeat music, sing out loud. There are loads of things that work for me.

Go on, "sharing is caring", what do you do to help lift your spirits and re-energize yourself?

Love to hear from you, as always.

Blessings

Louise

Hi Louise,
Great story, made me laugh
I've been here 20 years but could never get into the old 'green ambulance' cure. I guess my Scottish blood just doesn't like it 😁
I live across the lentil curtain so I think in this area the green ambulance would be a kale smoothie 😂🤣
Have a lekker Christmas and New Year,
Rab

Hi Rab
Glad you enjoyed this story and could relate - it is funny for me because I so rarely drink any alcohol, never mind enough to need a green ambulance, lol!
Sorry this amazing cure doesn't work for you. As you say, that lentil curtain is bound to interfere, haha! I enjoy kale smoothies ... we had both extremes available at the Good Food & Wine Show when I worked on it - very convenient access to balance 😊
Thank you for the Christmas and New Year wishes ... hope you have a lekker one too!

I am learning Qigong! I found it while looking for affiliates. Now I am one of his students and trying to get people to visit my site and take the 5 month course. It is my first and so far only affiliate. I don’t drink anymore so no hangovers to worry about.
There are other things I have done to invest in myself but those businesses do not have affiliate programs. My niche might be self improvement or self help or something. I’m kind of stuck.
Thanks for the story. It sounded very fun and it’s awesome that your business is thriving. So cool that you got that watch! Nice boss!

I have a Dear Ellen Diary that I published in four posts. (Written in 2016, one of two not so good years)
I made
Two website that point to each other.
The affiliate one is
wordofmouthadnexus.com
The other is personal:
randomjalie.com
I haven’t wanted feedback yet because I only have content. I am not yet thru the training and I am barely getting menus, let alone adding anything to make it pretty and interesting to look at.
I just need to watch more of Kyle’s videos.
Anyone of course is welcome to read, but the websites themselves are a bit underwhelming so far.

Hi there Jalie
Thank you for taking the time to reach and also share - much appreciated.
If you want to get traffic to your site with the help of WA, i encourage you to share your post links and website links within the areas provided by WA. I will find the links and come back to post them to you.

Sorry, I almost forgot. Here is the one link to get comments on your posts: And here is the second link: And a third:

I would be in trouble with all the delish wines that come out of South Africa. Happy holidays to you and yours.

Hahaha! I know what you mean, Rhonda.
Wishing you an awesome Festive Season.

Good post Louise,
There are 27 breweries in Colombia, plus there are lots of imported beers here as well.
I am only on my 6th brand of Colombian beer, I bought some to celebrate the day of candles.
Dudded again, the first one was great for the first mouthful, then it was like drinking salt water.
The next day? I just take it steady until I come good .

Michael.

Hi Michael
Wow, so many breweries in one country. i just had a look at the sqm and population in Columbia ... 27 breweries may well be needed, lol! I hadn't heard about the day of candles before - what a wonderful tradition!
Hope the beer starts to improve, drinking salt water is not pleasant.
Thank you for sharing your recovery process.
Blessings
Louise
