Eat Right, Sleep Right, Hydrate & Exercise

It is so easy to lose ourselves in the process and excitment of all the training, website building, community interaction and support etc within Wealthy Affiliate. I absolutely love WA and cannot imagine my life without it. Having said that though, it can reach the stage where we have very little to offer those we love or our wonderful online businesses if we do not Eat Right, Sleep Right, Hydrate & Exercise!

Eat Right

The temptation to cut corners with our nutrition is very high when we are absorbed in something as exciting as building our beautiful websites!

We need to nourish our bodies and minds though! Think about a car - no petrol / diesel / gas and the car no longer moves! Not to mention checking the oil, water and tyre pressure! Plus the regular services required!

We are no different. Our brains need the nourishment just as much as our bodies! No brain food and our thoughts and ideas will shrivel up and die too!

Sleep Right

We all have differing sleep needs, I know a WA member who (in my opinion) hardly sleeps at all, it works for him. Me? I need at least 8 hours a night.

When we are deeply engrossed with "just adding one more widget", "just double checking the SEO on my latest piece of blog art", time flies by, it's almost magical the way that happens. Have you noticed?

Sleep deprivation has a profoundly negative effect our health (even offers the threat of diabetes!), has been used as a method of torture and interrogation as it affects our brain function and thought processes - and let's not even mention how it impacts our mood and ability to cope with every day life!

The impact on our health, businesses, relationships and families is too high a risk for us to consider forgoing our natural needs for sleep.

Whatever need for sleep your body has, acknowledge it and work within it, everything you care about will benefit.

Hydrate

Sadly we are not talking about coffee, tea, energy drinks and the likes here. As much as we may love our daily cuppa, reality is that our brain and body cannot function without good old-fashioned H20!

Exercise

Love it or hate it, our bodies are made to move! You can take it to the extreme and become a body builder, triathlete, marathon runner, swimmer, extreme cyclist - or simply take your dog for a walk.

Take a breather from the screen, "walk and see more", your mind with thank you as will your body when oxygen is distributed through your pulsating limbs!

This Has Been Proven

You will notice that I have not added links to highly scientific research about why we need to eat right, sleep right, hydrate and exercise. There is plenty to back me up! Here is just one with a snippet of 3 points made in one article:

https://www.besthealthmag.ca/best-you/mental-health/how-to-boost-your-happy-hormones/

#1: Dopamine

This happy hormone is a neurotransmitter that drives your brain’s reward system. If you are praised at work for doing a good job, you’ll get a delicious dopamine hit, resulting in feelings of well-being. It also drives pleasure-seeking behaviour. Boost it by setting realistic goals (e.g., tidying your desk or sticking to your workout schedule) and achieving them. And seek out pleasurable healthy activities that have a positive impact on your life.

#2: Serotonin

This mood-boosting neurotransmitter was made famous by SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) antidepressants, which increase the brain’s serotonin levels. The most effective and natural way to boost serotonin is by exercising daily; that’s one reason a brisk walk does wonders for your mood. Just take 10 minutes out of your day and complete one of our resistance band workouts.

#3: Oxytocin

Both a neurotransmitter and a happy hormone, oxytocin is often called “the love hormone.” Researchers from Claremont University in California have done extensive research on its impact on women, linking oxytocin release to life satisfaction levels. It may play a greater role in women’s physiology and happiness compared to men’s. Spending time with loved ones and being kind to others stimulates oxytocin. Don’t you feel good just reading that?

It's Not Rocket Science

We all know instinctively what our needs are, stay mindful and take care of yourself - this WA journey is a marathon, not a sprint, make sure you are healthy and strong enough to enjoy the spoils of your successful business!

There is so much more to our lives and health - doing things we love - artistic pursuits; spending time with those we love (family, friends, that special someone), extending a hand and volunteering .... the list is long!

Very important points, Louise!
We set the habit many years ago of exercise and drinking water. Now that we are older it is really paying off and helping us balance our lives while working online.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
C & P

Hi C & P
It shows! You both have the good health glow going on- well done!
I've not been consistent, thank havens for muscle memory. Now, if only muscle strength was the same đŸ€”â˜ș
Thank you for sharing.
Have a fab weekend too.

Yes agreed balance is the key, but it can be very very difficult to get this right. It took me more than two years after retiring from corporate life to start to get this right. My thinking processes were still corporate and it is only recently that I have found a true balance and I have to often keep nudging myself to get back to the balance. But it is becoming more easy. And the last point of your post is spot on as they say. Have a great and balanced weekend.

Hi there Philip
Yeah, I think the change out of corporate is a very tough adjustment - has been for me. It's amazing to realize there's so much more to live, right?
Weekends are usually my most balanced days, I feel like I have more right to work less so exercise is easy to take time off for - daft, I know haha!
Sunday is my special day, time in my Fathers house â˜ș
Wishing you a balanced weekend too.
Blessings
Louise

Good article. I couldn't agree more. If there is no balance you are on a hiding to nowhere. After all imbalance is what the Chinese call "disease ". If you are diseased you will never make this or anything else work. Balance is the key.

Thank you so much, Alister That's an expression I haven't heard in a while "on a hiding to nowhere" and it's so descriptive, perfect!
Enjoy the weekend!

Thank you, Louise, for this. The importance of balance in life cannot be over-emphasized and can result in a costly fatality. Health again is the greatest wealth, which cannot be compromised.

Exactly, Lanu! Health is the greatest wealth! Wish I'd included that in the blog - thank you for dropping in to share it here.
Enjoy the weekend!

Thanks for the wise advice. To my shame, I hardly do those things right and need to check myself. I have realized that WA is real work, but who can work with an ailing body? I will surely try to keep your words in mind. I love the way you sign off by the way... Creative!

Warmly

Debz

Hi Debz
Yeah, we all need to check ourselves. This has been reverberating through my brain all week, just had to be shared.
Have a blessed weekend
Louise

Only a pleasure, Juan, glad you appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to say as much.
Blessings for an awesome weekend
Louise

Great post and lots of wisdom Louise.I try to take care of each of what you suggested, but sometimes it is of balance for awhile until I realize I am not feeling up to par. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Phyllis
Thank you for taking the time to read and share too. I kick myself at times because I feel off and it takes me a while to put two and two together - haha! Us Humans :-)

Louise

Me to I kick myself and I can see why, we often wait until some emergency situation calls of us to make changes, instead of been proactive.

Good Points, Kid .. All - Most Especially the Last Point .. AMEN !!

As to Hydration, it was a strange realization I had about that.
I always assumed that since Coffee is 99%+ water, that it qualified as Hydration .. well .. not really ?!?!

The body Knows what to do with Water -- Hydration
The body Knows what to do with Food --- Nutrition
... but, the body "sees" things differently than the mind does.
Throw water at it, and it sends it to the hydration funnel
But ...
Throw Coffee/Tea/etc at it, and it "sees" food, and funnels it to nutrition.
So, to actually Hydrate effectively, Drink "Water"

... just my 2cents worth

YMMV!

Regards

Joe

Hi Joe
Thank you for sharing - and for giving me a giggle too :-)
Agreed, the last point is the biggest key!

Louise

Hi Louise,
Love the post! You are so right, "We" all need to eat right, exercise, and stay hydrated. But healthier foods can be so expensive!

When you are on a fixed income it's very difficult!

Happy Friday,
Donna😉

Hi Donna
Yeah, it's FriYay! Funny, I work over the weekends too but still love Fridays, something in the atmosphere changes :-)

Agreed, we do all need to just maintain a balance. I find "healthier foods" are less expensive here when compared to the quick takeaways. That's country-specific of course. I eat mostly simple fruit and veg with protein like chickpeas and lentils. I do eat meat but try to keep it to a minimum. I also don't buy out of season - because the cost is too high and the global footprint is something to consider too. Wow, did I miss avocados! They're back in season now - YAYAY!

Have an awesome weekend.

Blessings
Louise
PS Great to see your gorgeous smiley face again :-)

You too sweet lady💐
