Resistance to change is a well documented topic - a quick google search gave me 1,020,000,000 results! (Looking at that number, I should not even be writing about it - hmm?) It's my experience for today, and the weekend just gone, so SEO numbers aside, this is my topic for today - Change Is As Good As A Holiday!

Monday Morning

This week began nice and early - yes, a lovely early start on Monday morning. To go to gym? Nope. To work on WA? Nope. So, why are we starting early?

To create change! I work half day (officially, but far longer unofficially) in a small business, there are only three of us in the company. We occupy shared offices though so there are more than three based in here.

Did I come to work early? Well no, that would definitely not have been a change. What was going on?

I rose early to bake - delicious crustless, dairy-free, quiche with mushrooms, ham, onion and sweet red pepper. Not only delicious - healthy too!

Taking a risk as I went, because I did not have a recipe - nor the inclination to find one. 11 eggs, half a punnet of mushrooms, half a sweet red pepper, 3 squares of sandwich ham chopped up into squares and a sliced up red onion. Chopped fresh Italian parsley and salt to taste. It rose like a champion and created the most incredible aroma!

Once ready for work, I packed the car and headed to the local supermarket - yes, on the way into the office, I went shopping. All of this is a change for me - baking in the morning is a definite no-go, just no time normally. Shopping on the way to the office on a Monday? Well, that just seems like a daft thing to do - particularly as two days just went by where I could have done the shopping.

I arrived at the office, no-one in sight, quickly unpacked the shopping and set it up beautifully, with the quiche just outside of the kitchen.

All ready to surprise the birthday girl!

She was delighted! Over the moon, jumping and squealing! Finally, after I had deafened her with my rendition of "Happy Birthday To Yooooou", she was able to tell me that she had never received a gift at the office - hence all the excitement!

I suspected this to be the case - on my birthday in November, no-one even knew it was my birthday! By 10am I couldn't contain it and sang happy birthday to myself! Haha! I wasn't upset because I understood that this is the culture of the company. I learned this lesson from the best manager I have ever had - we were away for a show when her birthday came around, so she bought champagne and shared it with the team! Being the GM, only she would have gotten away with something like this. It was done with so much joy and celebration, we all joined in without hesitation!

Back to this morning - shopping so early on a Monday morning was intentional, I bought the birthday girl a lovely fresh cream donut - her favourite - and shopping this morning, ensured it was fresh out of the oven. Everyone else in the office is on a health kick, hence the quiche, but the birthday girl deserved at least one of her favourite treats!

Saturday and Sunday

The weekend most definitely was the experience of "Change Is As Good As A Holiday". No work, no show houses, no vision board workshops, no WA (say whaaaaat?!). I took the scenic route to my sister by choice (even closer than a biological sister, because this sister I got to choose). When I say scenic route, it surely was scenic - and so much longer than it needed to be - I took the wrong route on a major interchange!

When I finally arrived, we chose to relax and chat. Take a little tour of her garden, admiring the gorgeous results of all her hard work. Drank tea in copious amounts (green and rooibos only, but of course). We played with her adorable furbabies, chilled, watched a move, ate grilled, healthy meals - just down-tooled for what was left of Saturday.

Sunday came along and we walked the furries - a good 5km - chatting all the way. Furbabies bouncing up and down in the distance amongst the tall grass, giving us a very good giggle - now you see them, now you don't! Which also gave me an idea for a future video - delightful Bark Vader and Bella being the stars of the show. How perfect is that name, Bark Vader, for a pitch black sheep dog? The tag on his collar also reads "Star Paws"

Bella is also aptly named, the cutest little Jack Russel who believes she is a princess. Though she did look decidedly more like a little buck or spring hare bouncing in the tall grass!

On returning home we indulged in a healthy and hearty breakfast before her gorgeous daughter and future son-in-law arrived home from their weekend away. Their weekend was typical of what I would have done in my twenties - a lot of partying and fun at the river - and they conked out soon after arriving home.

The remainder of the day was spent reminiscing, catching up on latest happenings. Completely chilled, just as we are when spending time with those we love and who we know love us - without any reservation.

Home Time

At 5.20pm on Sunday I took another scenic route home - a trip that should take 45 minutes on the freeway saw me arriving home at 6.40pm! Ah well, I just enjoyed the new scenery and took an easy drive home.

As usual, my felines were none-too-impressed that I had dared to leave them alone for an entire night and day - greeted me with the encouragement of persistent meowing until the received their favourite soft food. They had sufficient specialized crunchies and fresh water for the time I was away, but you know what drama queens they can be - a day without soft food is a day of starvation!

Monday came along...

You know how that began. Now we have gone full circle it is obvious to see where the change was as good as a holiday.

Back in the office and refreshed from a break away from everything, energy levels higher than on Friday, clarity of mind has returned. Indeed as hardworking Affiliate Marketers with WA, we deserve, a break because we become better business people when relaxed and refreshed.

So there you have it - evidence that change is as good as a holiday.

Blessings always wonderful WA community!
