Tell the Truth About Affiliate Marketing

When I visit the thread

What are your "Money Goals"

I am impressed of the hope people are vibrating. And there are really a lot of people in the "What are your money goals" thread with very realistic goals.

With some, however, I question their sanity.

The "What are your money goals" is there to encourage people, not to give them false hope. This answer is telling the person, it's doable to make 100 million + with affiliate marketing within a month. And the new member will be so disappointed after a month, and will turn his/her back on WA and the affiliate marketing business. This answer makes Wealthy Affiliate look like a getting rich quick scam. And I appreciate WA too much to let people take it down to an online scam.

A better answer would be:

Hi..[name].. that is a bit over the top within one month, however, you can earn a lot of money with affiliate marketing when you take the right steps, we will lead you through the training course, and help you set up a solid foundation, let's do this!

Do not mess around with hope and expectations

When you do that, people will leave!

Wow it takes so much time and effort. I have put so much into my site and still trying to figure it out. So far I've been turned down by three affiliates. I have Amazon but I need to figure out the bigger Affiliates. I think it is a matter of traffic to my site but that is where I'm stuck right now.

Success finding those terrific programs, they are out there!

Im scratching the surface :)

Would I be happy making millions of dollars from what I learned from WA? You bet! Should I expect to make that in a month, 2 months, 3 months, or even 4? No way!!!

It takes time to learn everything and build a solid foundation. My goals are to replace income I'm currently getting from my full time job so that way I can go on trips or vacations whenever I want instead of having to request it off and hoping it is approved.

We'll get there Brian:))

Love your pragmatism Loes. Well said. People who talk like that are only looking for sign ups to WA. The new people who talk about millions are very unrealistic and totally misled about making money on the internet. Now if it was me talking to them I would tell them otherwise. Not in a negative manner, but truthful. You are a good Ambassador. Bob

Thanks Bob:)

Another great one Loes,

What a coincidence. I just spent 1 week in opal fields and went down a mine 730 km North West of Sydney, all up I drove 1,700 km to film my niche and learn more about it.
Now watching Ariane Grande concert live from Manchester with my daughter. Coldplay is now on while I type.

So nice of her and all those other artists to make this statement! Enjoy!

$10MM in your first month is realistic isn't it?

I don't think these were serious goals, I think it was more of someone trolling here. But yes, we need to be realistic about the "time" it takes to achieve success online, but we can always remain very ambitious about our what are goals are.

If you give yourself time, amazing things can be achieved.

I think it was some trolling too, however, my message came through, I think. With consistency and perseverance, any goal is achievable.

Of course Kyle, you are right. If I didn't enter into affiliate marketing I wouldn't know it takes so much effort , time, determination and hard work to succeed ONLINE. Indeed it requires much planning and determination.

I laughed because it is so true...

One of my favourites was:
How Much Money Would You Be Happy Earning?
10 million!
How Much Money Would You Be Ecstatic Earning?
ALL of it!
How Much Time Are You Willing to Invest to Achieve This?

Apart from the high hopes, the answer "3" killed me. 3 what?

I generally don't bother to reply to that at all, but there are people in that thread who are so genuine, so hopeful... I wish that every one of them could find true, lasting success, whatever it means for them.

More on topic to what you are saying though, yes we need to be more responsible with our replies and support.

That's the word, more responsible:)

Thanks Loes, there are to many marketing people out there promising everything under the moon. Thanks for putting it out there that you can earn a great income but we should all be realistic in order to obtain our goals. Once our initial goals are met only then can we reach for higher ones.

Honesty is the best policy, and yes, you can earn, and even earn a lot, when you create a solid foundation and put in the effort

Yes, that is a big problem with many programs marketers promote I see often...They overpromise and underdeliver...

Better to be candid, show examples of what can be achieved over time and with some regular effort so the prospect knows what they have in store and what they can realistically what they can expect.

At the end of the day, this will provide more ling term income for you as well because there will less turnover of referrals and because you have been straight, there is likely a chance to promote more products...

Cheers!
Dave : )

Honesty is the best policy

I totally agree with you! I would much rather be realistic with someone than to have them as a recruit and then be upset with both me and the program. I have a direct sales business as well -- it has taken me over 5 years to get the two recruits that I currently have on my team, but they are both realistic and understanding and I think they will be with the program for a long time!

Any accomplishment takes more than a month, even Mohammed Ali had to train years before he made it to the top;)

You are so right!
There is an opposite error too though - I have been familiar with personal development techniques for some years now and I know that I lean to low goals. Can't seem to get out of that. Unrealistic figures mean very little to me. It would be no good saying I would love to earn £150k a year - I can't imagine that kind of income lol But often what I can imagine wouldn't actually improve my life much either... Its a difficult one. I stay with the low goals now, because if I attain them, I can always set higher ones!

Don't overestimate, but also don't sell yourself cheap, I think there has to be a balance between those 2
