Identity theft, what can you do against it?
A lot of you have seen my question and responded to it with support, horror, and dismay.
Thank you all for giving me the feeling that I am not alone in this. Your replies are very appreciated!
Which steps to take in case of identity theft.
- Change your passwords, of everything what has something to do with the issue. I changed my passwords of my websites, my email account and Gravatar.
- I have send a notification email to the server Comcast, where the IP address is hosted. They assured me to take the necessary action.
- I have changed my email address on my website, and displayed it now in a mailto:link
- I have attached a new Gravatar to the misused email address.
- I have checked the IP address on http://whatismyipaddress.com/
Site support was available throughout the day, thank you ever so much! They confirmed to have blocked the IP on their server.
I truly hope this was the one and only comment placed in my name, and that the issue is solved.

Hi Loes sorry to here about your troubles, but I see here you already solved it. I'm glad for you that it's over.
Yes, it's a pity, luckily it was placed on a website of someone who knew me, I don't know how many are still out there, but they all got a new gravatar;)
Hi Loes, thanks for the great information. My father had this happen to him and it was a nightmare to clear it up.
Take care,
Dan
Thank you, Dan. There has to happen quite some more to make me stressed out or even sleep an hour less, I just take action, but I am not in a bit worried, worst scenario is that I have to change all my email addresses, but I will live:)
How very unpleasant!
I am sorry, Loes, that such an ugly thing happened. Check all your accounts now., online banking especially. Anyway, it's a good idea not to keep a lot of money on cards tied up to online accounts.:)
