Oh, my God, I'm so sad to hear this news. :(

As we speak, 61 have died, and the fire is still spreading

Our prayers are with them .

Amen

Hellfire is a very accurate discription. The devastation it has caused is unfathomable.

Complete villages has disappeared

Agreed. An almost inhuman task for fire fighters and other helpers.
That is ONE more reason to keep the Paris Climate Agreement going and make its rules more strict in stead of turn your head away...

I am so glad, even states in America are not giving in to Trump

This is breaking my heart. I am praying right now.

Mine too, it's terrible

I'm so sorry to read this.....................

So did I, heartbreaking

WOW!

I can imagine how terrifying this must be

Oh yes Loes. My prayers are with them. Portugal is the Southern California of Europe and that place is a constant tinderbox!

There are indeed often fires, but not this heavy

That should never have happened...

No, but it does, unfortunately

It is such a nightmare for the people involved...

We well know about these rampaging bush fires over here. With all the eucalypti and their oils forests go up like a bomb. The fire races through the tops and drops burning bark that starts the undergrowth burning.

Firefighters just can't keep up. Lots of people die when these fires come from all directions.

So yes my heart does go out to those in Portugal, I hope the temperatures drop and the rain starts falling.

It's terrifying Helen, I hope also rain will come quickly

I have been watching the news about the Portugal bush fires. In my humble opinion, evacuation warnings and measures weren't in place. These surely need to be spelled out.

We all have bush fire plans on how to act if fires start approaching. Our rural fire brigades give plenty of warning by driving through areas potentially 'under fire', honking and with sirens blowing.

By the line-up of burnt out cars it looks like this didn't happen. One can only hope the authorities learn from this.

I hope so too, Helen, this is a terrible result
