Google app 8.0: hints about the future
1. Material Design 2 is coming
Recently there were rumors about a significant update of Googles Material Design. Later this year, Google Chrome would get a new look with Material Design 2. Google also seems to be preparing a new version of the Google app with these design rules.
This new design is still a test and is not yet being rolled out widely.
2. Google Assistant will learn nicknames
You can now find 'Your People' in the Google Assistant settings. The function is also called in the Dutch version of the app. The idea is that you can tell Google Assistant who you mean after saying a certain nickname.
3. Google Lens can access your selfie camera
At the moment, Google Lens only works with the camera at the back of your smartphone, but the code of the app speaks of a possibility to swap the camera. This way you can show an object to Google Lens by holding it in front of your smartphone.
4. Video becomes more important for Google Assistant
The new Google app clearly shows that the future of Google Assistant is not only with audio but also with video. With the Google Assistant settings, it is now possible to activate video calling via Google Duo. In addition, the code of the Google app talks about playing news videos. Through Google Home speakers with screens it is therefore possible to get news updates with images.

Innovation
As with any company, Google also will keep up to innovate its interface. Stagnation is deterioration in the IT world. You really need to keep up with the competition.
Innovation must, innovation is good. But what exactly is innovation and how can it be promoted? And isn't the importance of innovation exaggerated?
Are you innovative?
Innovation is mainly about small improvements and organizational processes and procedures. Or to invent a new business model. A new user inrface (UI) for an new user experience (UE) We call that social innovation.
Good innovations are innovations that we would like to have for ourselves and that appeal to us. Bad innovations are clearly in conflict with the golden rule that the makers would want to use the product themselves.
Whenever you think about innovation, always ask yourself the questions:
- Is this a good product/ service?
- Would I use this my self?
- Would I advise my children to use it?
In the 90th there was a flow of innovated financial products in Europe, and lots of people used all their savings to get one of these innovated products, we call them "usury policies". The only ones who got rich and better from it were the inventors, and I believe at heart, that the inventors didn't advise these products to their own moms and dads.
So that should be the starting point, when you invent something new, would you
recommend it to your family?

If I don't believe something is good then I won't recommend it to anyone, even for profit.
I am not innovative any more and wish things would just stay in place for a while so we can catch up. haha jk change in the tech world is consistent and persistent and unrelenting. Enjoy the ride.
I do wish some brick and mortar stores would stop rearranging merchandise so I don't have to keep looking for where they put it this month.
it's annoying and I forget things because they move them and then my wife gets upset because I forgot something when it was more like I couldn't find it
and around and around it goes
Hi Loes, Always a difficult call to recommend something, you have to be 100% sure of that product or service. I confess I made a mistake in the past and recommended something which I should not had i known the outcome. Best Alan
The question is, are you willingly recommend something bad, for profit, or are you recommending something you think is good, and it turns out bad. That's a world of difference
Hi Loes, you are right, there is a big difference. This was in the property scam days, and I was asked by an agent to recommend something which I had already invested in, thinking it was a good thing. Whereas if I knew then what I subsequently learned, which was that the funding bank was in on the scam, I would not have invested in it myself. But then morals and banking is another long running story, Best Alan
Yes, and I wonder if Google questions itself if they would recommend it to their family;) I am a bit wary about the selfie recognition app
Yes it’s something FaceBook has done lots of research into I believe and we know what they’ve been up-to!
Thanks
