Hello wonderful WA family, I’m hoping this finds you well?

First of all I have a question, one thing you can guarantee about this awesome program is that the community will always be at hand somewhere in the world to answer it for you.

Have written a monster post in the amount of words, well it is for me anyway. My best before this was over 2000 words. This is over 4,300 words and not quite finished yet .

Can’t make up my mind whether to leave it as one post or make it into a two parter? ( parter) is that even a word 😂

The facts needed to make an informed decision. It reads and flows well as one post. Dilemma, lots of people me included don’t really like long posts. If, I came across it I may think twice about reading it. Do you fall into this category?

Because of the style it has been written in, there are very natural places where it can be split into 2 posts or even 3 posts. Each part 1500 words long.

Advantages to that. You can link them all together internally, thus encouraging your reader to stay on your site for longer, improving your figures and bounce rate. Possible disadvantage, Google may rank it better, as the whole post, seeing you as an authority on the subject.

When, starting out here March 14 th 2020. I read posts like this asking similar questions in total awe and looking forward to the day when I would be in that position.

Hence, the title every dog has it’s day. Now it is my turn to ask the question, I look forward to your answers and if at all possible, your reason for the answer.

Going to leave you with this quote :

“ Most misunderstandings in the world could be avoided if people would simply take the time to ask, "What else could this mean?”
Shannon L. Alder

Have a totally amazing weekend, stay safe.

Hey Lisa

I find it curious that Google likes longer pieces yet it seems that most people do not like to read long posts. Is it that the latter is a fallacy? Given that you have shorter posts and this is your first really long one I would post it in entirety to see how it behaves with Google. That way you can compare different types of posts performance.

Hugh

Hey Hugh,
I would normally agree but this is the first post on a new site. I don’t want to frighten people away. I have split it but not equally the first part is 1600 words and the second is 2,900. I can write a lot on this subject so once my site gets indexed I can keep a few longer posts. I have only been doing this for 8 months so I’m still learning.
Lisa

Looks good what you did!

Thank you very much Rosana. 🌹

Hi Lisa, reading the comments seems the consensus is to break it up into three parts.
For me I think of a post as a good book that once I start reading I am hesistant to put it down, it is the same with watching a movie, even though the commercials may give a break to get a drink or use the facilities I like the idea of no interuptions.
Wow some great people here suggesting you break it up.
Sorry to be different.

Either way I am sure I will be a great read.

Best wishes,
Michael

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have now pretty much finished writing it and it is over 4,500 words. At the moment it is in 2 parts. i'm going to get a few people to read it. Then make a decision.
Have a great weekend :-)

Hi Lisa, I know you will make the best decision.

Wishing you a great weekend also,
Michael

Very much appreciated thank you my friend.

Hi Lisa, good going. I think that if posts are too long people will get fed up reading it and if you have a call to action at the end then few might get that far. I think that 2 or 3 linked sharper posts which deal with specific issues might be better. Also you have 3 different keywords instead of one to attract traffic and 3 more posts for Google to rank and see your website growing by, rather than just the one. But I'm no expert by any means. Good work regardless of how you publish

Hi Geoffrey, I was thinking along the same lines. Thanks for your input. Have a great weekend :-)

Hi Lisa. Perhaps you could spit the article into parts or add an outline at the beginning of the article so that people could use that to pick a section that applies to their particular needs.
There are some things I read that I need thoroughness and short articles just don't cut it.
I am sure you will figure it out, you are doing so well.
Ray

Thank you very much Ray. I could do a clickable table of contents that takes the reader to that section. That is definitely something to consider. Have a great weekend. :-)

That sounds like an epic post, Lisa! I'm the type who comes to a post and will start reading and if I'm captivated by it, will keep reading to the end (without scrolling down to see how much longer it is).

But others might not. Perhaps you may want consider splitting it to two parts. But hopefully, it's still an engaging post.

Thanks!
Isaiah 😊

Hey Isiah, I'm like that with certain posts, they have to captivate me from the beginning though. This post is a how to, so it has natural break points to it. In the first 1600 words it has tasks to do and things to consider. I'm thinking along the lines of do that first and then come back to do the next steps. To stop overwhelm.
Still deciding. Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts. Lisa :-)
