Enjoying my weekend

Oh beautiful weekend! As I take a short break while I am waiting for my lunch to be done I just wanted to jot a few thoughts down. I'm in the midst of a 4 day weekend! Yay! Boss man was right when he told me October would be a lighter month for me.

As I try to rack my brains for things to write on my healthy treats site I keep running into blocks in my thinking. Over the past few weeks I have been thinking and reevaluating where I want things to go in a niche site. While I am keeping both of my dog related sites up and going I am going to work on changing to a new niche.

As my work entails me going into several nursing homes in my area for the Psychiatrist I work for I have been realizing for a while now that so many of the residents are just a few years older than me, and some even younger than me. I find this depressing. I know nursing homes are a needed service but I pray every day that neither my husband or I end up in one!

So, I have had thoughts pop into my mind a lot lately about working on a health/fitness site for older people. I have purchased the domain keepingfitafter50.com and have been thinking of how I want to lay it all out.

This has taken a lot of thought on my part as my true passion is my dogs and I do want to keeping trying to develop those sights. But when i pray about certain concerns and questions and I get certain feeling pulling my in a certain direction I try to follow that pull.

Don't know where it will lead, if anywhere. Only time will tell. Hopefully in the near future I can ask for some feedback on my new venture.

You can always talk about dog therapy on your fit after 50 site. I think it's a great one. I spent the summer during my practicum working in nursing homes. Walking, healthy diet, and...a biggie...finding ways to afford prescriptions so that chronic illnesses are kept under control would be great.

Thanks for the ideas.

I know that walking is a good thing to do. And it is very important to keep active as you age: it will impact you mental acuity as much as anything else.

Llopez,
I have a lot of respect for the generations that have gone before me. I have always thought that it is a shame that their stories weren't indexed or recorded for future generations to hear and learn from their actual ancestors. I LOVED my grandmother's stories of covered wagons and such in the mid-west of the U.S. How they survived, a bother and sister that passed due to the extremes and limited health care. I wish I had each one recorded.
Keeping an aging generation healthy and sharp to share another story from their experiences is awesome. I wish the best for you and your endeavors. You certainly sound busy which is very important for a vibrant healthy mind. Continue to enjoy and recharge during your extended weekend.

Thanks for the follow, I am following you back. You are right, our elder generation's history is so interesting and should be preserved.

Your story made me remember my Grandmom. She volunteered in nursing homes at a very advanced age and her big complaint was, "Hey, they're younger than I am and they can't do for themselves???" She used to get so mad and didn't really understand, but she didn't give up helping either. There's a LOT out there on fitness for seniors and not-quite seniors. You should be able to get lots of ideas!

LOL. Thanks CarlaIves. It is so hard to see nursing home patients that are younger than me. People also are living so much longer now than in previous generations so it is so important to improve the quality of our lives as we age. None of us are getting any younger. Achieving a ripe old age can be a blessing instead of a curse!

That's my hope as I'm going downhill fast! LOL Just physically, though. Mentally, I'm still pretty much all there. At least I think so. :) My Grandmom drove until she was 91 and they took her license away.

Yes, I hate how our bodies wear out some as we get older! That's great about your grandmother and I'll bet she hated having that taken away from her. One of the women I see at one of our homes is 101! She looks great for her age and is able to get around in a motorized scooter. Unfortunately she sees her age as a curse.

Great, sounds like a wonderful idea. I know one thing would be actual brain exercises to keep them sharp, alert and enjoying fun things. I see so many that just get to a point and sit in front of their TV and complain about everything, including my Dad (87 yrs old).
Good physical exercise and a hang out buddy.
Those are just some thoughts of my own I thought I would toss out there.
Kim :))

Thanks for the feedback. One of the areas I do want to focus on is keeping a healthy and active brain.

Sounds great! I know even when I had to medically retire at a young age I could tell I was loosing some sharpness to my brain activity. Now that I have WA its in full swing. :))
