About Llj-tucson

Hi, I'm Linda. I retired last year following a 40-year career working in public accounting, business education and ultimately corporate accounting. While there were many elements of my job that I truly loved, it was time to leave the long hours, stress and constant deadlines behind. I live in a 55-Plus community with numerous common facilities and have enjoyed a year of self-indulgence. In particular, we have an amazing executive golf course that has beckoned me on a regular basis. I've been intrigued by the possibilities of working online for many years. Now that I have the time, I am ready to explore that option.

Hey Linda, I stumbled across your user name: Are you from Tucson, AZ? I'm from Germany, but used to study at the University of Arizona back in 2007/2008 and we will visit the city soon! Tucson is great! I love it :-)

I just followed you here on WA and g+. A followback would be highly appreciated :-)

I feel what you are about, long, stressful hours at work. Everyone expects me to work or at least be on call for emergencies 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Tired of it and looking to start something different online. Hope we can both enjoy life more. Check out my site www.ourhealthyanimals.com

Hi, Vicky. Thanks for connecting. I took a look at your site and I think you're off to a good start. You have some interesting topics. One thing I might suggest is that you set a featured image for each blog post.

You'll find the featured image command on the right-hand side of your edit screen for each post. The featured image will display on your blogroll above the snippet of information for each post and give it a little more visual appeal.

Most of like our pictures, right? :)

Best of luck to you!

But I see you have been a member of WA for one year now. How do you feel about your experience here and what are you writing about?
I tried accounting and couldn't figure all that out. LOL But, I do pretty well handling my finances. I guess because there's not much of it to manage. LOL
Anyway, love learning more about your progress. Keep in touch and thank you for adding me to your network.

Hello Linda

Your story is a bit like mine. I lost my job about a year and a half ago. After submitting many resumes and getting no response, I decided to semi-retire and try to find something else to do. It didn't take that long before I found WA. I am very busy with the lessons and writing content, and I'm having a great time. Good luck to you.

This is the best place to get the training and help you need. The courses are amazing, but the additional training and postings of the members who have been doing this for a while, and those who haven'g been doing it so long, is incomparable. You can get answers to your questions 24/7, since so many of our members live outside the US. Have you considered doing freelance bookkeeping and accounting as a virtual assistant? That is what I do, but in the field of editing, proofreading, and transcription, focusing on the blogging community. I wish you success.

Hi, Linda. Welcome to WA. Yes, the training is excellent. I've been through most of the formal training at least twice, and I continue to learn something new from members every day. I don't think freelancing is for me. I have all I can do to stay on track with my website. That's my priority. Well, that and a bit of retiree fun :) I just went annual, so I guess I'm in this for the long haul. Best wishes to you!

good for you---I also live in a 55+ community-the difference being is so many of my neighbors and I have nothing in common---their days are spent looking for activities to do so they leave out in the morning and go from store-to-store just to get out of the house

none of them own a computer or even want to get one---I mean the baby boomer generation not my neighbors in their late 70's or 80's---it's as though they're here just waiting to pass on

There is a famous quote from Mark Twain:

"If it's your job to eat a frog, it's best to do it first thing in the morning. And if it's your job to eat two frogs, it's best to eat the biggest one first."

And that just means - do your hardest task first or at least as soon as you can in the morning. If you do this then the rest of your day is easy from there!

ANYWAY…

Good afternoon and greetings from Western Canada, Linda and thanks for following me. I will add you to my network as well.

Your background is similar to my amazing wives. She was an accountant, ((CGA), and I guess she still is in a way), for about 30 years. 25 of that was in her own business, (at home), and is now a full-time Administrator/Accountant at our church for the last 8 years.

We got married 22 years ago and now, also live in a 55+ complex, for the last 2 years.

Anyway, just a couple of similarities and I want to wish you well on your journey into online business. I hope it going well and look forward to connecting now and then.

Hi Linda, Thank you for following me. i was reading your profile and I don't know if I would consider golf as self-indulgence. Eat, drink, sleep and golf. Isn't that how the saying goes? ;^)

Anyway, having more time for golfing sounds like a really good reason to work hard at WA and become successful. You know the training is second to none and the community is awesome. So, put up that picture if Phil Mickelson or Tiger Woods (whichever gets you juices going) and let it motivate you to eagle this online business. Then have enough money to travel and meet your golfing heroes. Wouldn't that be great?

Anyway, I'm following you, too, now. i look forward to working with you. Best wishes...

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/website-feedback

This is a give and take system, meaning that as you offer others feedback on your website you are going to earn credits so you can request reviews from others. This is a pay it forward community afterall. :)

Yes, I appreciate your feedback very much, Kyle. I'll change my homepage today. I've used low-competition keywords in every page and post I've written and will continue to do so. May take a long time, but I fully intend to be successful!

Thanks very much for creating this opportunity. Overall, I have really loved my experience at WA and definitely expect to be a long-timer. I read and research incessantly, but there's a lot to learn.

I'm also very much aware of the community feedback site. An absolutely great idea, in theory :) With all due respect, it may have some of the same challenges as the community comments site :) I wrote a WA blog yesterday entitled How to Foster a Better Commenting Environment. Please feel free to tell me what I'm missing :)

Might PM you at some point with some concerns, then again I think you've probably already heard them.

Thanks Again,
Linda

That is the thing about the Internet, there is always going to be something new to learn and the same goes for any niche as well. You will always have room to advance, scale and improve your site. So glad you are enjoying everything thus far!

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

Hi Kyle,

Yes, things are going very well for me. I've actually chosen my niche and had my website up and running for several months now. It's http://retiredandearningonline.com.

I know I've sent a weird signal today by going back through and checking off steps in the lessons. I've actually been through almost all of the lessons at this point (some more than once). But I knew I would want to review them again once I reached a point where more things made sense. So I never really checked off the tasks. I'm doing that review now in hopes that everything will click and I'll pick up a few tidbits that may have escaped me before :)

I would certainly love it if you took a look and gave me your quick impressions of my site. Thanks for checking in.
Regards,
Linda

I think you are off to a really good start Linda, I do have a few suggestions here:

(1) I would always suggest making your homepage a blog roll versus being a static page. The reason for this is that when you add a new post to your website, it will automatically show a snippet of this on your homepage (within your blog roll).

Not only does this make your website appear to be much more active and interesting to a visitor, it will also lead Google to quicker index your pages and also rank your content higher as your website will always appear fresh.

(2) You can start incorporating other pages/posts into your top menu (as a drop down) as you build out your website.

You can add these custom menus to organize your top menu in any way in which you like, as well as create sub-menus (for themes that will support this). You can also use these custom menus to add within your side widgets on your website (within your sidebar).

Here is a tutorial on how to create custom menus: I use custom menus on all of my websites (over-ride that default menu). It allows much more control and organization....both good things!

(3) Target keywords within every page or post.

Each page or post on your website should have a keyword focal point. Keywords are what lead to rankings and what lead to traffic. So when you are looking to come up with an idea for a new post, do some keyword research and find a phrase that is related to your niche.

As you build out your content and start getting rankings under these terms, you will see your traffic (and revenue) cumulatively grow. Just know that not every page will rank, but over time a good percentage will. The game of numbers!

Hi again Linda it’s a good idea, but only if you want to, to click the 'Like' icon within a comment if you like it as I have done with yours.
Obviously you don't have to click every single comment or you will be here all day doing nothing but.
But to click the ones you do like will be reflected in your WA ranking because it shows you are getting involved with the community.
Enjoy your day.

Hello Linda, ♫Welcome! Nice to meet you ツ I wish you a lot of learning pleasure and fun on WA. Thank you for following me.

From the start, I have written training for every issue I had problems with myself. I also made a list of 1001 niche ideas, a checklist with 25 points to go through before you publish a post, 101 blogging ideas when you get stuck and an A-Z WA dictionary. It has been very helpful to a lot of people. You can find them on my profile on the right under training (click on my picture). I hope to help you with those.

If you have any questions, please add a comment to this message or leave them on my profile.
Success building your business in 2016. See you around, Greetings Loes

Hi Loes,
Thanks and very nice to meet you too. I'm going to check out all of your trainings. They sound very helpful. It's good to know people who can help. I've been having a lot of technical issues with my site the last few days and I'm not technically savvy in the least. Very frustrating! But I think (hope?) everything is OK for the moment :)
