Oh dear L**D!
I am following the course's step by step (If I start to veer off course then I get my self bogged under & everything ends up in a mess!!)

Hi Lisa,
Neil gave some great advise. Don't try to rush through the course. It's actually better to take your time so that you fully understand each step. Myself, I stop if I get confused and restart the lesson. I have a pad and I take notes that I think are important and that I'll probably need letter. I put tabs on my notes so that I know where to search for it. I find this to be pretty helpful. Anyway, I actually logged in to you website listed on your profile page. It is indeed there. You don't have your home page completed yet to your site is live. I went through your menu and I see you have good content on each page. So there you have it. Just continue to work on your site. It'll all come together.

Hi Jerome

Thank you so much for your feed back, words of wisdom & encouragement.
Normally I want to know everything yesterday & with this I've had to slow down to make sure I'm taking it all in, got a bit worried that I had missed something.
Ive just got to remember to breath & relax, trust & believe

&
Neil is a true gem :)

Thank you again

You are welcome. Just remember, take your time. You are doing really good so far.

Hey, Lisa, don't get too upset with this...take the steps slowly and with regards to veering off course.

I would say a great habit to get into, is to apply some of the organisational skills you have learned in life. Just keep track of where you are in the video, ie note down the time, which steps, etc. Write down any notes/thoughts you may have at the time, for example, I often leave word doc or text doc open so I can make notes, copy URLs, add comments, and pop them in a folder on your computer, call it WALearning or something like that.

Basically, treat this as a learning diary, there are lots of apps you can use for this from Notepad/Wordpad or equivalents, word processors like MSWord, LibreOffice Writer, KingSoft/WPS Office etc...or you can use something like OneNote if you have it and know how to use it.

One of the things I had to learn when learning about such things as computing, and coding, that is essential, is to keep good notes, comments about your work and keep them organised. Imagine if you have 100s or even 1000s of files, they need some structure, get into the habit of creating and maintaining that structure, it will make life easier in the long run.

So that when you have to leave your current position in the work or training, you can make it easier on yourself when you have to pick it up. Don't get into the habit, which is far too common, of thinking, bah I'll do that later, cos it either never gets done, or when you come back to it you can't remember what the heck you were doing or why and end up starting again...

Generally, successful people also tend to be very well organised. It is another skill to be learned and added to your growing toolkit and one that is essential in my opinion.

With regards to your site, what is the URL/Address/Name, let see if others can see it first...and with regards to your concerns about feedback, scary indeed, but do not let this put you off, part of the reason you are here is to learn about how to present your ideas and in this is included the process of having to learn about CMS and page design, in this case, using WordPress.

There is a lot going on here and for beginners, it can be hugely overwhelming, but please remember, everyone starts somewhere and at some point, we are all beginners. You don't have to put your site up for feedback just yet if you are not ready, it doesn't matter.

The process is in place to help you to get some positive feedback and ideas from other folks who are in the same place as yourself, and from more experienced WordPressers and marketers, you will be surprised at just how helpful, if scary, this can actually be, and also you may be surprised just how uplifting it can be to see other folk congratulating you on your efforts. Just do it when you are ready and feel comfortable and in the meantime, just continue through with the lessons, and ask when you get stuck or need a little lift up from the folks here who are on your side.

I remember when at college, the first time I ever really heard about databases, I remember thinking, feeling, like I had made a huge mistake, it was like someone was talking ancient Sumerian or some other long lost language, and I was sure it was all going to be impossible for 'someone like me' to grasp it...I did grasp it and my first job oddly enough, out of college was as a database designer and programmer.

Two of my favourite quotes regarding the impossible:

It always seems impossible until it’s done. – Nelson Mandela

To believe a thing impossible is to make it so. – French Proverb

Kind regards

Neil

Thank you so much Neil its just truly awesome to have some one like yourself on here, I value all the help you have given me and really appreciate it. True asset to WA family :)

I can talk face to face with people no problem at all but when it comes to computers, it all become's overwhelming (probably the word I should have used) I've wanted to do something like this for quite sometime bit of a personal challenge,I think! I must say I am loving it & theirs plenty of notes being taken. Just got to remember breath & not freak lol

Thanks for the quotes too :)

Warmest Kindest Regards

Hi Lisa, you are doing great...You just need a bit more practice and your confidence will build, this is a part of the frustration, it took me ages to feel confident about what I know, I used to question myself, and still do (that's how I learn), and used to doubt myself, I was always more concerned with what I did not know, instead of focusing on what I did know and what I could do, and building on that.

It can all be rather confusing and becomes hard work, and this is the time your doubting self will want to pack it all up, just don't listen to it...Keep chipping away, keep asking questions and it won't be too long before you ever wondered why you thought it was all so tough...

I am just starting course 3, so I am not going at a stellar pace myself Lisa, I have been busy with work, and study, and of course putting up long posts on WA...I have not even built my website! It is all ready to go, set up, just ain't been doing anything on it yet, aka no content, well I have put up a nice pic to say there is nothing going on, but that's it.

So really don't worry about it...just move along at a pace that suits you.

Thank you for your kind and wonderful comments too...

Best wishes

Neil
