Hi Lizzy - as the error says, the video is not the "main content" - in other words, the majority of your post is written content, and you are just "enhancing" it with a video.

The only way to get around this would be to put the video at the top of the post, above the fold, so it's immediately prominent.

But this wouldn't be a good user experience, and it's not really a problem anyway.

It's probably indexed through the original YouTube video anyway.

It shouldn't affect your ranking, etc.

great, thanks Di!

I'm just spitballing, but it might have to do with the new Google Algorithm change. I know you will get better answers soon, Lizzy!

Jeff

I'm not sure if they got indexed before the HCU update, I never actually checked that,so I don't know if they were there before the update. All my posts for my miniature sites haven't de indexed though, just the vids I'm not sure why they don't index.

Hello! I have heard about the Google changes and things. I have not worked on my site that much in the past 3 months, I write a couple articles a week . I have lots of plug ins and I'm thinking of deleting all but like 4 or 5. I wrote 230 articles in a little more than a year. I'm just trying to make my site run smooth with less plug-ins was a thought I was having, if that may help me.

Hi Lizzy

I don’t think actually owning the product will be the determining factor at this point.

I believe that site domain authority is currently the major factor driving Google’s ranking algorithm of product and roundup reviews, especially for popular niches.

However, owning or having first hand experience with a product can give your review an edge in terms of writing content that is uniquely helpful.

In my guitar niche I take a 10-minute ride to the Guitar Center, where I can play with a photograph the latest equipment for free and have fun in the process.

l recommend you keep doing video reviews of miniatures you assemble, to the extent that it is cost and time effective.

Just my opinion. 😎

Ok, I hope that Google will agree with you haha, we'll see. Yesterday I saw a SEO youtube saying that this GCU will take at least 6 months to stabilize, sigh haha

They have stress about owning it, but I will take the risk. It is impossible to own hundreds of things.
But I believe it is very important to be creating in the text so it is not like most of the reviews.
Besides my travel site, I am so lucky to have owned images of almost all places and traveled there, too.

yes they have stressed about 'real reviews' for a while now,but Google punishes these sites as well at the moment, and rewarding big brands. How is your travel site doing if I may ask?

I am preparing to start it again after being put on hold for 3 years to focus on my key site.
So, I was just mentioning how lucky I am to own all the images after traveling all over Iceland. My site is about travel to Iceland.
However! I was thinking about what I could do when I had it on hold. So I guess 2 years ago I start being a little bit active on my DFB account for the site (travel is excellent for FB).
That has worked so well that when I start again next month, I will have around 8.000 followers on FB plus, more importantly, more than 120.000 see it each month.

Sounds great!

Hi all
If you have a lot of video tutorials in one blog post, would you embed them all, or just place a thumbnail and link to the Youtube video and tell people to click on t

By a lot do you mean more than 3? If so, what I would suggest you do is break down your blog post into multiple ones. One video per post and add an infographic if needed. That's my 2 cents.

I don't think that the topic of how to create miniature origami flowers can be done in 5 different posts haha, but thanks for the suggestion :-)
Lizzy

Even though you're linking them to videos on your own channel, YouTube will tempt them with other videos hosted on other channels, so they may click away and leave your site. I always embed mine and have not run into any speed issues.

Sure, but even if they watch a video of mine till the end on my blog post, they still will be referred to another video of my own, that has priority if you put another one of yourself at the end of it, or in between with the "i"-button,where I either refer them to one of my playlists (like all my mini flowers tutorial are on one list, that is the blog post I am writing about), or either to another related video again of mine. I use all the options on my videos when I upload them.

So I really think that the chances of people watching one of my own videos again is higher then them switching to another channel. They probably will at the end though, but well, you lose some, you win some haha

Good to know

I would embed them Lizzie, just as an aside if you are sending to people to a lot of Youtube videos which are not your own you are sending people outside of your site and they may not return

Thanks. For this one I will mostly point them to my own youtube channel, so thats no loss if that happens 😊

Hi all,
I always get the message from SEO software that my site may have an issue with homepage canonicalization, what does this mean?
(just one of my 2 sites hosted here

Hey Lizzy,

Here's what I think it is.

Okay, when you go to GSC you'll see the red numbers in the notifications tab.

Click on that and locate the message you received.

Then click on the message and it will ask you if you want to go to the INDEXING REPORT, click on that.

Then you'll be on your usual GSC indexing page and you want to locate the CANONICAL issue that says GOOGLE SYSTEMS.

The one with WEBSITE is just typically (feed), (author), (category), (tag), etc, IGNORE this one, but click on the one that says GOOGLE SYSTEMS.

Now, once you find that scroll all the way to bottom and at a guess it will list REAL website urls, but at the BOTTOM of the page you'll probably see MEDIUM urls.

What I've discovered is that it's best to wait until the article is INDEXED ON YOUR OWN WEBSITE FIRST then "import" to Medium.

As Medium is a DA95, has 1000s of articles published daily, it gets indexed more-or-less straight away.

Therefore, if you publish an article on your website and then IMMEDIATELY publish on Medium it's likely the Medium version will get indexed first.

And then Google states (at the bottom of the page) that it has published the Medium article as the "canoncial" (the original article that will hopefully rank higher).

Personally, not much you can do apart from request indexing again from the articles listed in that section.

However, in future, always wait until articles are indexed on your website FIRST, THEN once it's indexed, import to Medium.

I could be completely wrong (in which case I'll need to see your GSC), but that is my GUESS!!

It's kinda "Google gibberish", but here's there explanation, but it's easier to see if they actually mention "Medium" in your GSC.

So this SEO software that I have subscribed to (no worries, I don't pay for it), always kind of pressures me to have a clickable phone number on my website and an address, just

That really is much more important for a physical business' website, and really doesn't fit for you. Spiders will scan your site, grab that number and add it to a list that gets sold over and over and over again. You don't want that!

Contact the SEO software and see if there's a correct way to not have to do this.

Hi all, some heads up.
For me, I'm not going to get a virtual phone number, as it is either not available in my country, or it isn't free.
When you live in the US, you can get a free number with Google Voice. For me, I'm going to leave this behind, as Partha said below, that won't probably change much for rankings and such.
Thanks!
Lizzy

Here's Your "Foundational Backlinks" Tutorial 🤣🤣🤣

This is known as NAP (Name, Address, Phone Number) in Sales & Marketing.

It's something I would strongly advise for those doing Local SEO, but this is typically for service-related businesses.

So, it's not so focused on niche websites.

I will say it can't do any harm to have a "proper business" registered, which would include the above details, but in terms of ranking it won't make a huge amount of difference, it simply makes you look more legitimate as a brand and a business.

You can purchase PO Box addresses for less than $50/year, and there are telephone services that will take messages and send you an email every time a message is left.

However, once more, it's more about making you look like a legitimate business, as opposed to "helping SEO and rankings".

In much the same way that most people got E-E-A-T completely wrong over the last few years, by thinking that simply adding an author box and "qualifications" on your website would suddenly "boost your rankings", the same can be said for "registering a real business".

What I mean is, sure these things MAY help, but they are CONTROLLED BY YOU.

Essentially, I could write that I'm a Doctor, Lawyer, Engineer, Professional Footballer, and Fortune500 CEO ALL AT THE SAME TIME on my website, but Google won't suddenly rank me higher because of this because I WROTE IT, no real proof, and even uploading certificates is NOT proof.

Furthermore, a lot of the backlinks that you can obtain from different sources are once more CONTROLLED BY YOU.

So, all the things CONTROLLED BY YOU can and probably will help in terms of SEO and rankings, but don't expect huge jumps.

The best thing for any website is when OTHER PEOPLE mention you.

This is why backlinks from within the content on high authority domains are so sought after (niche edits and guest posts), and even though these can be manipulated, it shows that OTHER PEOPLE are "linking to your content".

Citations online work just as well, and don't even need a link, e.g.

"Kyle Loudon at Wealthy Affiliate says..."

OR

"Eric Cantu at WorkFromYourLaptop recently spoke about..." (sorry if I got Eric's brand wrong, just writing off the top of my head, LOL)"

But again, this is better when OTHER PEOPLE do it (sure you can once more manipulate this by having 1000s of accounts on different platforms, VPNs, change IP address, etc.)

However, the more that your brand, your name, your website are "mentioned" across the internet (linked or not linked) the better it is for your POTENTIAL rankings.

The best thing to do is start with Foundational Backlinks (controlled by you).

Profile backlinks still work really well, but the reason they have such a bad name is because people often use software to blast 10,000 profile backlinks in the space of 2 days<---- This IS unnatural, LOOKS unnatural, so Google will generally IGNORE or PUNISH.

As an example, I've included a screenshot below of the Sassy Social plugin, you can create a profile bio on each of these platforms.

It takes less than 5 minutes (perhaps open a new gmail account as you'll have lots of email confirmations to do) to create a profile, so just 2-3 a day.

Your profile can have a link, but also if it's a popular platform it will be crawled regularly by Google and they will still "read" your brand name.

So, you profile bio should be something like:

"John Doe is the founder, owner, and author at myfitnesswebsite .com. This is a platform where fitness enthusiasts can find expert guidance on achieving their strength and conditioning goals. John, a seasoned personal trainer, shares his in-depth knowledge on muscle growth, fat reduction, and the intricacies of weight training. His articles focus on rectifying widespread exercise "

You then stick that through ChatGPT and ask it to rewrite it say 10 times, saying exactly the same thing, but being unique and original, but always including the real name and the real website, and of a similar word count.

You can then copy and paste your bio straight into your new account (also upload a photo, or at the very least your BRAND LOGO as the profile photo).

You can then do the same at website directories, again just 2-3 per day:

Google My Business
Bing Places
Yelp
Four Square
Brown Book
Hot Frog
Callup Contact
192
Next Door
Merchant Circle
La Cartes
BBB
Super Pages
B2B Yellow Pages
eLocal
Dex Knows
Alignable
About Us
Spoke
Blogarama
Family Friendly Sites
Incrawler
Links 2 Go
Gimpsy
Greenstalk
Joeant
Goguides
Global Weblinks
World Site Index
Octopedia
Info Listings
Skaffe

You can also do the same with NICHE -RELEVANT forum profiles, so for you Google something like:

Travelling + forums

Africa + forums

Backpacking + forums

So, anything forum related to your niche. Again, all you are doing here is creating a "branded bio" via ChatGPT, signing up to the platform, uploading a profile photo (your own or your brand logo), and then moving onto the next one.

YOU DON'T NEED TO DO THE NEXT STEP, IT's JUST ONE EXTRA THING TO DO

Finally, one that requires a bit more work in terms of Foundational Backlinks is web 2.0 properties ( we ALL already use web 2.0 properties, simply put, platforms that allow you to interact and add content on them, e.g. YouTube, Pinterest, Medium, etc.).

However, there are a lot of web 2.0 blogging platforms you can add content to.

The trick here is to make it look as though IT's NOT YOU.

You open an account and treat it as though it is YOUR REAL WEBSITE.

However, you can simply use AI to rewrite content or produce new content, just make sure it's pretty decent.

Open between 3-10 of these accounts and add 1 article a week.

DO NOT immediately link to your website and DO NOT include a link to your website in every single post.

Treat this as though it's your MAIN website, so you definitely wouldn't have an external link on EVERY single post to the same website.

So, add an external link to your website perhaps once a month.

After you have about 15-20 articles on these web 2.0 properties you can reduce your content to once a month, but again, DON'T link to your website every time.

This simply looks as though there are 3-10 websites linking to you.

Now, the thing about ALL the backlinks I've mentioned above you can actually spam the hell out of these platforms with TIER 2 BACKLINKS (backlinks to your backlinks).

This is one of the only reasons I'd use Fiverr for "$10 for 10,000 backlinks".

You DON'T send these backlinks to your MAIN website, you'll get punished, but most web 2.0 properties have a really high DA, and have been established over decades, so they are not usually affected in any way

From my experience, if you spam backlinks to one these web 2.0 properties, it simply makes the links to your MAIN website even stronger (but, of course, you DON'T need to spam backlinks at all).

The web 2.0 properties I'd mainly use are

WordPress .com <---- ,com is the FREE WordPress
Weebly
Tumblr
LiveJournal
SquareSpace

But here's a full list (3-10 is fine though, just add an article once a week for the first 2-3 months, and then one article a month from there on in, DON'T link to your MAIN website ALL THE TIME, maybe once or twice in the first month, and then once every 3-5 articles after that, but ONE link is fine on the entire web 2.0 property, just keep adding an article at least once a month)

NOW, seems like a lot right?

That's why this IS A BUSINESS.

The other thing being, once you're doing some of these things (never spend more than 30 minutes a day on these tasks, so it's quick and easy) your BRAND and your WEBSITE NAME are being spread ALL OVER THE INTERNET.

Now, you know the favourite Wacky Affiliate saying:

"Backlinks happen naturally"

NO THEY DON'T, unless other people CAN FIND YOU. (Remember what I said the other day? If you're NOT ranking on page one with your content, or getting lots of likes, shares, and comments on social media, the PEOPLE WON'T FIND YOUR CONTENT).

But, by having your website name, brand name, website links, your photo, your logo ALL OVER THE INTERNET

THEN PEOPLE WILL FIND YOU.

And that is how "natural backlinks" occur.

THE END!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Partha

Thanks Partha, but DO YOU SLEEP? hahaha
(in the meantime, I have contacted the person on Fiver that you recommended for the social links already, step one is thus in the works :-) )

By the way, the other blog post that you published recently with the text snippets on google (from 1 to 10), the result is skinny on my end, mostly it is Pinterest or Youtube ranking above me, or there is simply no text snippet from websites above me. But I found some interesting keywords though to work on.

Lizzy

I don´t want to use fake. And for sure I will not set my mobile number there so I don´t so it!
