When You See A Lot Of Competition For A Keyword
You write a better and longer post than all of them!
Yes, I'm hoping that's what I did today... 2,800 words for a product review for the usual internet marketing product.
Sometimes I wonder why I write that much because what if it doesn't even rank on Page 1 after all that writing?
But as you can see in the graph above, the longer the post the better the ranking.
I can't always think about ranking though because how I see it is that I made the best post I can with all the information I got.
I put everything in that post and made sure I covered all grounds and if that meant it was going to be 2,800 word post, so be it.
Will I write like this all week, nope! At least not on purpose, sometimes I really don't know how much I'll write but usually it's over 1,000 words.
If you're ever stuck on writing 1,00o words, you can check out my training here:
How To Easily Write A 1,000 Word Blog Post
I'll have to see, when this 2,800 word publishes in mid August, where it will rank on Google, it'll be interesting to see if I can beat all those page 1 posts!
Happy writing!

Nice. Most of my 265 posts are around 750 words. I think for my next review I'll step it up to 2000 words. Great post.
Thanks David, once awhile having one of these longer posts will help your site gain some better ranking but man, you have a lot of posts! That's awesome! :)
I've always believed in this Grace what you say"...the longer the post the better the ranking".
I'm really curious, I think this is a GREAT strategy, to save your longer posts for a lot of competition on a keyword. I bet it woks!
That's great sometimes I find myself writing long posts while some other times I do average writing.

I was told to write posts but write them well up to about 3000 words. Apparently they rank better if you write one long post a week versus 2-3 short posts a week. I wrote one today of about 2500 words with a GSR of 5 and about 800 searches a month. I'll see how it goes.
Don't know what to tell you but it's been a month and that post i talked about is still on page 3. :(
oh well, maybe it needs more time but I publish these days and nothing is under 1000 words.
Just keep writing a variety of lengths.
