It is really up to you i think, of course by sharing or liking back is a nice thing to do.

Thank you, Ben. I was just wondering if there was a protocol that I should be following with FB.

Good question with some good answers.

Thank you. It is something that I have been wondering about for a while. It is also interesting to find out how other people do things :)

I would ... Then, develop those contacts into potential customers.

Hi, Ed,

As you can see, I am not very good with the social media side of things but it is essential to helping your business progress. You may need to take the plunge eventually.

Lis.

Just keep posting good content. From time to time you can announce a general welcome to new likes but not individually.

Thank you. That is a brilliant idea. I will incorporate that into my pages.

not necessarily, just know that someone is interested in your post and that is a good thing.
~D

Thank you. I did not want people to think that I was ignoring them or that I did not appreciate the 'likes'.

Hi Everyone,

I received an email from Namecheap this morning stating that ICANN is going to start showing WHOIS data. This would mean that your name and home address will be

Thanks for the reminder Lis, I've posted a similar blog, Desmond.

That is great news. I hope everyone takes this very seriously.

Have signed the petition

Thank you Bella.

Yes and I have signed the petition - just follow the instructions.

Thank you.

I ditto Deos331557 comment. I have also received the email and wanted to query on the community. I think we should act quickly. This act if allowed will leave us naked and unprotected.

Totally agree. As this community is so large maybe enough voices from here will make them change their minds.

I also believe and hope that legally they cannot do this as it is an infringement of our human rights for privacy. This action will cause nothing but trouble.

Thanks for sharing Lis. I received the same email. The only people I can see benefiting from this would be spammers, and robo callers. We all need to act on this.

I totally agree. No good will come out of them making our details public.

Thanks for sharing and hope everyone will notice and respond and not sit back and just let change happen.

That is what I am hoping Brian as I know a member of WA has had a rough time because of threats from someone who got his details from the domain name register.

This person has even threatened to go to his house.

Security of your personal information is so important these days.

I also received this email. In Canada it is a bit different (unless things have changed). If you have URL ending in .ca your privacy is automatically protected (without paying for WHOIS). However, .com endings are different. I don't know about any of the other ones. I have one site that is .com and one that is .ca

Hi Tanja,

When I got my .com domains the WHOIS was free on Namecheap. The way I understand this email it does not seem to matter whether ICANN was free or paid for as they seem to just want to expose everything regardless.

Correct me if I am misreading the intentions, please.

Thank you.

Lis,

Mine was free as well for a year with my .com URL. But in Canada when using a .ca ending, your privacy is protected regardless of having WHOIS. It is a Canadian law. This is what my husband told me when he helped me with my first website (back when I was a speech pathologist).

Thank you Tanja for clarifying. So it looks like it is just the .com extensions that we need to worry about.

I only know about the .ca extension. I can't speak about the other extensions.

I think that namecheap.com has an option for few dollars to protect your privacy. Thank you.

They are trying to get rid of this feature. That is what the email is all about.

If this feature goes then your personal information becomes exposed.

An example of what could happen if they get rid of this feature.

One WA member did not have this on his domain name and has been subjected to threats from a stranger. This person has also threatened to come round to his home as 'he knows where he lives' because his address was exposed on the domain name register.

I am not saying that this will happen to everyone, but it is a scary prospect.

Lis.

It was recently brought to my attention that pop-up ads were appearing on my site. I have not added any pop-up plug-ins or programs so I do not know where it is coming from.

Hi Lis,

I do not see any pop-ups on your website. I think you probably do have malware.

Download the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/

That should get rid of it for you.

Let me know how you get on.

Marcus.

Hi Marcus, thank you for looking. I think the reason why you cannot see the pop up is that you have visited my site previously.

It is really a weird situation with these pop ups as they seem to only happen the very first time you visit my site. Which as someone else said, does not make sense unless it is doing something else in the background.

Also, I have looked at my site on other devices and PC's so I know I do not have a malware problem.

Thank you for the suggestion and help.

First, wow, you have a nicely developed website. Big pat on the back.

Second, I can assure you that you are not crazy or imagining this problem. Yes, I have a degree in Psychology from Central Washington University and until I retired I was the Clinical Director of a treatment facility I owned. Ok, I digress. Actually, it's late and I'm getting rummy.

I did indeed encountered the pop up. It occurred in about 3 minutes of visiting your site. I was trying to navigate to your stroke section when the pop up jumped up into a new window.

Ok, this is the part where you get to slap me on the side of the head. I closed the window without getting a screen shot. I've been clicking all over your site to duplicate the pop up with no success. Geez, if they are going to invade your site like that then they should have the decency to pop up twice.

I'm going to keep at it and if I get a screen shot then I will get back to you.

Hi Grampa Mike, thank you so much for your help and for proving my sanity :).

I also thought it strange that it only happens once and then disappears. This makes it even more scary as I wonder if it is grabbing visitor data off my site!

To get it to happen again, I clear the cache of my browser, go back onto to the site.

Thanks again helping.

google revealed a few results on the popups.. typed in euro millionaire system popup and it had ways to get rid of it

Thank you for your help, I will look into that.

Hi Lis - I used IPad to access your site.

I have looked at my site on different devices and even on a pc at work so I know it is not my computer that is affected. It has to be something on my site.

Thank you Karen.

Hi Lis - I went to you site and click on one of the blogs. I got a survey pop up. :-( Karen

Thank you so much Karen,

I will add this to the list to get support to take me seriously about this problem.

Hi Lis, Milla575 (Camille) also had the same problem, you might want to contact her... I don't know the status, but she is aware of the issue.

C

Thank you so much, that is a great help. I will pay a visit.

No problem, Lis! Hope you get it sorted :)

C

Thank you. I hope so too.

I went to your website and I hung around for a good five minutes. Didn't see anything wrong. I really think you have some type of malware infecting your pc. Mine was called safe web. A member here wrote a training about it after he helped me. I am trying yo find it for you. All it did was contain the malware. I ended up having to call my tech support guy to completely remove it. I didn't find the one I was looking for, but I did find this. Hope it helps

Thank you, pbar. I will look into this.

I accessed your site via cell phone. no issues untilI tapped on a picture... Then the redirection started.

So it is not my imagination. That is a blessing. Could you take a screenshot please?

Lis.

I had a similar experience last week Safari was infected with adware and I continually had a popup until I could quit and clean up and sort the preferences. Maybe it is something like that. I checked your site and it seems to work well and looks good.
Best of luck sorting it out.

I seem able to go onto other sites without any issues. Plus other people have commented about the ads on my site. So I am still not convinced that it is my PC.

Thank you for your help. I will run the clean up programs on my computer.

Lis.

I had a problem recently with malware, and it was absurd the amount of time it make me loose! I think I visited a site with malware, but actually never ask anyone to see if my site was affected. But I think it's on your pc, not exactly on your site. So, make a deep clean up on yours before doing anything else. They should be banned of the web!

Thank you for taking a look.

I was beginning to think that it was my computer, but other people are seeing the pop-ups on my site so I feel that is one question solved.

I recently got an email from Commission Junction to say that one of my affiliate programs has been deactivated. (The program itself not my affiliation).

Has anyone had this

I've seen many changes within various affiliate programs

Hi Gordi, it is lovely to hear from you. I am also learning that affiliate programs can be fickle and let you down when you least expect.

However, I am learning that it is better to keep track of what affiliate programs you put on which posts as I am now having to go through my whole site to change the links to this particular affiliate.

Hope things are going well for you!

Best wishes.
Lis.

It's a great idea to keep track of your programs with each post. I learned that when programs started changing. It's a big pain deleting links, and updating to new programs

I also learned that the hard way.

I have found that by creating an excel file I just put the title and the name of the affiliate links for each post in a list so it will make it easier in the future.

I don't want to have to trawl through the whole site again. It is a nightmare :).

Many time Lis , not for such thing as Marion mention there are a whole bunch of reason, and the list can be pretty big. I wish I had more time to type you a list but can't, I don't got the time at the moment to much to do right now.maybe later.

Thank you for commenting. I imagine the list can be extensive.

Good question with good responses

Thank you, Larry. So far, it appears that I will have to delete the links and find another affiliate program. It's something to know for the future though :).

Sometimes things happen that are beyond your control and you just have to do what's best for your site.

I am in agreement with you about looking at what is best for my site. It just makes me nervous about signing up to any other affiliate program and it is going to be a complex job removing the links and may be adding new ones.

Anyway, I suppose it is all part of the learning process.

Yep you're right, it is a "learning experience". Good luck with the website.

Sometimes affiliate programs get deactivated because of too many refunds. Of course there are many other reasons. ~Marion

Thank you, Marion. I was beginning to think it was because I did not have any sales through them. I will have to find and remove all the links. Exciting job :(.

I have had them get deactivated and two or three hours later reactivated probably due to payments.

Thanks, Tommy. I will recheck with Commission Junction.

Lis.

Hey Elisabeth,
They either stopped doing affiliate marketing or they moved to another affiliate management company. It happens sometimes. I would see if you can find who the affiliate manager is and reach out to them separately. If they still have an affiliate program, there should be a link on how to sign up on their website. The link is usually called "Affiliates".

Best Regards,
Jim

I will give that a try. Otherwise, it is going to take me a while to locate all the links on my site and change them.

Thank you for your help.

Lis

Why is my site getting spammed by Facebook? Has anyone else noticed this problem?

I have Akismet in place and it filters spam into the bin. However, since yesterday April

Sorry, can't help my friend:)

Yeah, I normally get a few here and there myself. But 2 days ago I had 16 spam from facebook. Which was a large influx from there imo

All this started for me two days ago also, but the amount is just getting ridiculous. Thank goodness for Akismet our it could affect my sites ranking in the search engines.

I am just hoping that there is not a backdoor causing it which could cause my site to get hacked or anything like that.

Lis.

Sorry to hear, I'm sure you must of been pissed off. I was just about to re open FB and link it.
Thanks for the heads up.
Though I can't help you Lis, can you Please keep us posted as to what's happening???

No problem Joseph, I will let you know if there is a solution. If anyone can help we are in the right place.

Lis.

Thank You...

It seems someone took notice of your site and decided it would be good to spam. So, they're trying! That's why we have Akismet! I have mine set on the highest level. I don't even want to see them, just have Akismet deal with it.

How do you set Akismet to the highest level so you can ignore it?

I have been getting the odd one but now it is getting really weird.

Go to Plug-ins, Akismet, then Settings. Scroll down to Settings Box, and see radio buttons for "Strictness." I have "silently discard.." clicked, but, even if you choose the spam folder, they are automatically deleted after 15 days. So, I let Akismet take care of things for me.... I only respond to the one's that do get through, then I determine whether it's relevant to my site and is a good comment or not. I delete or approve accordingly. Good Luck!

Thank you so much for that. At least I will have some control over things.

Lis.

Hmmm... haven't noticed a problem with any of mine! Kinda weird coming from FB!

I agree. It is conversations going backwards and forwards from people on Facebook. See the attached image. It started on April 2nd and appears to be getting worse.

Lis.

Even weirder... what could they possibly be getting out of doing this?

I don't know, I just want it to stop.

I deleted 64 an hour ago and now I have another 10.

Wishin' I had a solution for ya', kiddo!!!

I believe they do this for a small amount of link juice with website links in text and in profile.

So they are basically trying to get other sites to boost the popularity of Facebook pages?

Well, at least I have not accepted any of these comments on my site so their ploy failed in this instance.

Thank you.
