I wanted to add a couple of references at the end of my article because it's kind of a controversial subject and I think people will call me out for not providing references. <

I have not encountered such issue but I am interested to know how it is from our WA community thanks for sharing Lisa, and happy weekend...

Hi Francisco, I will post the resolution back here when I get it figured out. I wasn't on today so it's just kind of left as is for now.

Thank you for your interest.

Lisa

Hey Lisa,

Aaaaah yes, the value of ASCII characters works WONDERS for me when this happens.

Having a cheat sheet printed out and ready to use in replacing the dots, slashes, and the colon... and that stops their URLs from displaying a Twitter card on my site under my list of Sources.

You may find the charts at this site helpful: https://www.freeformatter.com/html-entities.html

Hope you find this helpful.

Hi Trish,

Thank you. It looks like it will be really helpful. I'm just not sure how to use it. Can you explain?

Thanks,
Lisa

If you cannot understand using the ASCII characters in place of punctuation, then I'm afraid I cannot make it any more clear than that Lisa. :-(

Okie dokie

Thank you Abie.

I just went and tried both of these. It did not work to attach it in the text interface, it still turned into a box.

I deactivated CTA and thought it worked at first but then the box appeared.

During that process I accidentally discovered that if I paste the URL next to some other random text, it will not turn. So for now, as a work around, I numbered the references with no space in between the URL like this...

1.www.blahblah.com
2.www.etcetc.com

It is strange though... I have never had this happen before and I did just recently get CTA.

Thanks again,
Lisa

It doesn't look professional though. What about your additional CSS, any code in there, obviously something embedded - it could perhaps be the theme, does your theme has a support forum or line you get in touch with the developers.

You're right, it doesn't.

I don't really know about CSS, is it easy to look at the code? I'm using a WP theme called Twenty Seventeen.

I don't think it is the theme now as I preview it. And I don't want to speculate. I am not sure what it is , could perhaps be a residue that some plugin has left.

I wouldn't go into code, if I do not know what I am doing. It is always good to also back up your blog before you make any changes. I suppose you already know that.

I would try reach support ask them if they can assist.
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/support

Thank you for looking into the theme.

I know I'm supposed to backup but have not done it. I need a plug-in for that correct?

Thank you for your time and energy and I will ask support what they think.

Yes you can use the AIO WP Migration or Updraft plugins. Updraft Plus is a premium which is highly recommended.

Do let us know how you get on, hope you get resolved sooner.

Hi Lisa, I would say more likely has to do with your CTA button styler if has embedded some code in the theme.

However, try go to text interface and attach it normally see what happens. Also see if there's extra code and may be try omit.

Does it hurt if you deactivate the CTA button styler and then see if there's a difference.

Hey Lisa,

You may find the following tutorial very informative: I sure did.

Hope this helps you.

You're right Trish. That was awesome, thank you so much for sharing it.

Even though it was an older post it actually really helped me because I have been feeling sort of held back or hampered in my writing by having to work within the keywords all the time.

I followed the links and watched Kyle's tranings. I'm going to write a few articles ... just me, without worrying about the keywords and affiliate links and see how I come out.

Thanks again,
Lisa

That is what I do all of the time Lisa.

Use my keywords in my titles, then no more than 3 times within 1,000 words... and sometimes, I find more than one relevant keyword, so I see if I can use them too, as you just never know how Google will decide to share your content.

Many times, I just write.. and THEN I see where I can add my three uses of a particular keyword. BUT I only add it where it sounds "normal" to be used.

When you want to know HOW a post is ranking, check your Google Analytics. Do NOT go Google searching for it's rank or you could hurt your post's rank: Too many worry about the WRONG things. Nowhere in Kyle's training will you hear him say to stay awake at nights worrying about the rank of your posts... or... that you should fret over keywords. Right?

Happy writing.

True! Happy writing to you too Trish.

Excellent answers from Ferra.

Fabulous points given by Ferra and Chrys

Yes, thank you for checking in Aparna.

How old is your website and how old is the post you are trying to find?

Google have over 200 factors when it comes to ranking.

Less than 2 months for both.

I think I know the answer to my question based on your question. Both my website and post need time before they will possibly rank better if I follow many of the over 200 factors.

I've learned a lot from you and Ferra just now. I guess I was thinking that indexing and ranking happened together at the same time.

Thanks Chrystopher.

Lisa

No worries Lisa :-) Unfortunately, Indexing and Ranking are two separate beats. Indexing purely means that Google now knows about you, and you are in their database. Ranking will change on a daily basis, especially after core algorithm changes, but Google actually make over 500 changes a year to their algorithm. So with those changes, and the 200+ factors, your rankings will fluctuate, but usually get better over time, especially if you follow the training here and don’t do any Black Hat SEO. You can use Jaaxy’s SiteRank to see if you appear on the first page of the SERPs, based on your keyword for each individual page/post. You can also use Google’s Search Console (GSC) and Bing Webmaster to see where you are Ranking based on the keywords they have identified for you from your content.

That makes so much more sense than what I had in mind.

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain it like that.

Hi Lisa,

Those numbers look great. Glad to hear your posts are indexed.

The ranking will take longer than indexing. It can take weeks or months. The more we publish quality content that are helpful to readers, after 3 months or so, when we have more than 30 posts, Google starts to see us as an authority in the niche we choose.

Google itself has more than 200 factors to rank a page (website age, SEO practices, user-friendly, quality content, length of content, etc). The SEO practices that Jay teaches us in his training are great. They are Meta Title, Meta Description, Keywords in content, Alt Text on the Images, Internal Links, External Links, Embeded video (optional).

To rank high in the search engines, it is advised to have content in the region of 1000-1500 words. Although some content can be 4000+ words, likewise, some content can be 500-800 words.
Check out Diane's post below, it's an interesting read: How did you put your keywords in your post?
Maybe this training can be of help: Here is another great read from Backlinko (an authority website):
https://backlinko.com/google-ranking-factors
According to Backlinko, the posts that tends to be on page 1 are in the range between 1900-2000 words.
https://backlinko.com/search-engine-ranking

Hope this helps,
Ferra

Thank you Ferra.

I was starting to worry that I was not choosing my keywords correctly.

You have clarified some things for me here. As I told Chrystopher, I was thinking the indexing and ranking happened together.

Thank you for the information. I will check out Jay's training and the links that you provided.

Thanks again,
Lisa

You're welcome, Lisa. It takes time and a lot of efforts but it is possible for us to be an authority in the niche we choose. Keep at it. We can do it! 😀💪

I appreciate your encouragement always Ferra.

Thank you. We can do it!

I have a few questions. Background is... I was tidying up my posts and I noticed a couple of them had titles longer that the ideal 60 characters. So I changed the titles.

You can change in your back office where your website is not in your title I did that that way you have your whole title for your count because the article is on your website anyway

Great answers for your interesting questions

Great questions and great answers

Hi Lisa. You have answered question 3 yourself. Q. 4. It certainly matters as Google will only show the first 70 characters.
Q 1/2. If your post hasn't indexed then it's fine to change the title and the end part of your permalink , but it can cause ranking issues if you change it once you have been indexed. Jim

Thanks Jim and thanks for clarifying that it can cause ranking issues after being indexed.

1. You are able to edit the permalink! I i recommend doing this she. You change the title to keep consistency.
2. It shouldn’t decrease your chancing of getting indexed, unless you made it grammatically incorrect or changed the keyword. It may even increase the chances of getting indexed if you kept the same keyword and removed everything else
3.I’m not sure which character count you’re talking about. The website title one (aka meta title) does include the website title AND anything else you want to add. The meta description does not include your title but it should include your word
4. It matters a lot actually. If you look at the preview, a longer title won’t end up including more characters. The site can only fit so many characters before it cuts it off.

Thank you Lex. I didn't know if I should mess with the permalink. I will do this to match my title.

Hi, I'm stuck on the training because Kyle said to add Adsense to One Post as a test. For the life of me I cannot find a coherent answer to exactly how to do that. The training

Hello Lisa, I installed adsense today. I went into word press and got the plugin, site kit, and followed the instructions.

Ok. I wasn't sure about using the kit because it installs Adsense on your whole website right?
Also, did they approve you right away?

The kit installs adsense on all your pages, which I like. I have not heard anything on my approval.

Thank you Keith, I will check that out.

Once you have confirmed the step by Diane, if you have been approved, you can use the Ad Inserter plugin to help place and control your Ads

Hi Chrystopher,

This looks helpful, I'm going to look it over more closely. Thank you for your help, I do appreciate it.

Lisa

I haven’t got that far yet in my lessons. I always believe you should give things a go and if it doesn’t work go to plan B. Sorry I’m not very helpful.

That's Ok Yvonne. Thanks for checking in!

Hi - first of all, have you actually been approved by Google AdSense? Or have they just sent the first piece of code which allows them to inspect your website?

Hi Diane,
Thank you. I'm waiting to be approved. I'm just looking ahead as to how to do this once/if I am approved.
Lisa

Hi - just be aware that you need 20 to 30 posts to be approved, and it takes up to 3 weeks for them to make a decision. Once approved, follow the advice by Chrystopher and use Ad Inserter.

Ah, ok thank you. I think this just came a little early for me. I only have 10 posts at this point. I will go ahead and move on. I appreciate your help.

Yes, it's a little early in the training to suggest AdSense. Most members don't have enough content at this stage.
