Is a Magazine Theme Difficult to Use?

Today I started over on this journey by creating a brand new website. More details of that later, but I would like to know if anyone is using a magazine type theme. I installed one, but it looks like it may be a bit more difficult to work with than a more traditional two- column theme. I would love to have your feedback before I proceed so I do not waste time and get frustrated. If it is too difficult to manage for someone like me who is not exactly tech savvy, I can go ahead and change the theme before I start creating any content.
