What is self reliant?

How are you prepared, What is self reliant? It is to be reliant on one's own powers and resources rather than those of others. Here are some thought provoking questions.

  • How are you self reliant?
  • Have you ever made any plans in the event of a fire in your home?
  • What about a flood?
  • Hurricane or tornado?
  • What kind of food storage do you have for a calamity?
  • Where does your family meet up in a calamity?
  • Do you have go bags ready to grab and run?
  • What necessities do you need to exist?
  • If you had no electricity what happens to things in the fridge & freezer?
  • What meds do you need?

Some people think this is a negative subject and accuse me of worrying too much, but if you are prepared you have no need to worry.

As mortal earthly beings, we often find ourselves in uncomfortable situations, Some of these might be man-made and others might be cataclysmic natural disasters. The latter is generally much worse than the first.

What is the plan if you find yourself in the middle of a

  • tornado
  • power outage
  • hurricane
  • flood,
  • fire
  • earthquake.

The reality is, have you even made any plans for such an event. Sometimes it takes FEMMA days to respond to calamities. What happens in the meantime?

Some think that this is negative thinking to dwell on these thoughts. As I said, I call it proactive thinking. If you are prepared you are in better shape than those who haven’t even got a plan.

    What is your plan?

    • Where do the kids go in the event of a fire?
    • Do they have a buddy system planned?
    • Who looks out for whom?
    • Do you have a meeting place?
    • How do you communicate with one another if you get separated?
    • What are the things necessary for you and your family to exist?
      • Food
      • meds,
      • paper goods,
      • clothing
      • other supplies,

Do you have a supply of water in the event of food being cut off due to earthquake, flood or any other calamity?

And don’t do like me and buy the 50-gallon drums but fail to fill them with water.

Do you have solar ability in the event of electricity being cut off? How are you going to cook your food without electricity or gas?

Word is out that this year’s crops in the midwest have been laid low to none. This will likely create a shortage of grains and corn in the USA. Do you have wheat and corn to make breads and foods for your family?

    Another question:

What good are grains if you don’t have grain mills or processors?

When you go to the grocery store to pick up that wanted grain or corn product and find the shelf empty, will you cry “Boo-hoo” or say “Oh I’m glad I have some wheat or corn stored. I guess we make bread or tortillas today.” What are you going to do if you haven’t prepared

As I mentioned before, I look at this subject as being proactive thinking. Rather than a negative subject. For our mental health I challenge you all to consider these questions and then be proactive in your approach. Your sanity and health may depend upon it in the future.

    How to begin

Obviously, to take on this whole subject completely, would be impossible for most people. so I suggest you start with a plan. Make yours so it fits your needs.

Start preparing if you have nothing. Begin by adding an extra can of vegetables or other items you purchase. Just start doing something. Make a plan and then stick to it.

You wonder if I have all these things I’ve mentioned prepared? Of course not. Who does? But we each have to assess ourselves and our preparedness, then start working our individual plan.

Does this have anything to do with Wealthy Affiliates? Yes, I believe so.

I am trying to convince my husband to start a website on this subject of taking action in preparedness. He is on a committee to help create a community action plan and is well versed on the subject.

I would appreciate your feedback concerning this subject. This might be beneficial to him if he knew the kind of support, or lack of it, that is here. You might say “well, do your research” and Iwould respond “I am” “this is part of it.”

Thanks for your consideration and response.

Thank you for the post. There's a lot to think about here.

    Brian

THERE CERTAINLY IS A LOT TO THINK ABOUT. Sorry about the caps. That is why we make it simple. Just buy an extra can or item each shopping trip. Others buy by sales. Case or 1/2 case of Beans, Tomatoes, Cr Mushroom Soup, etc. etc. The things you use regularly. That way you'll be rotating the things out. I got started with a couple of hundred dollars and buying a 20lb bag of rice, oatmeal. and beans, plus a few 1/2 cs vegs and fruits.
Many items on the list above don't cost money, so start making your program and creating a determined outline of your plans. Then every week, pick a day to review and check the items off when done. etc It takes a little planning. Good Luck!

    Thanks, Linda.

Great questions to ask ourselves Linda!
Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!
    Thanks,

Yes and you can be glad you have some to share too.. You just might need to share for many will be unprepared.

It never hurts to be prepared. Especially if you live in an area known for natural disasters like hurricanes, etc...

They keep saying the Wasatch Fault is due for a big quake, so it's always in the back of our minds in this country. Thanks for your comments,

Great food for though, outstanding blog, may you have a wonderful week.

Thanks! Yes, we need that kind of food too (food for thot) Enjoy your week too!

Lots of food for thought. We’ve been through earthquakes and fires. Managed to survive both. They were tough times but we learned great lessons.

Thanks for making us aware of emergencies and providing self reliant solutions.

This area suffered a flood in 1976 and we have minor earthquakes regularly. I guess that's a good thing because the pressure is being released continually. Hope my lists help a little. Best wishes.

Preparation is key and vital to success in business.
    Thanks for sharing
    Darren :)

I appreciate your remarks. Without a plan, we fail in anything we do. We need to know where we are going.

Self-reliant - confidence that YOU are prepared to handle what occurs.

Over-thinking - needlessly worrying yourself about the actions and behaviors of others.

Either way, you write the plans so that you can access them in the time of an emergency.

It seems like you may be uncertain of what to do to put these thoughts out of your mind.

What do you do to relax or even reward yourself once you have devised one of your plan B's?

    Thanks for your comments.

It never hurts to be prepared. Thanks for giving us a checklist.

The list is the easy part. Acquiring it all is another thing. But we try.
