Are We There Yet?

This blog was inspired by a great blog by Lauren Jean called "Cracking the Code." See it HERE.

Oh, do I remember those "Are we there yet" days when my 9 children were small. We had a van and often would send one or two to the back of the van when they misbehaved. We even heard about a man who took his rambunctious children off the Interstate to a backroad and had the kids get out to do "ROADWORK".

The kids were then offloaded and told to get running ahead of Mom & Dad in the car down a backroad to get the "wiggles out.". This was called Roadwork. We actually tried that a few times.with our bunch. It really worked to get the limbs working and take some of that anxiousness out of the kids.

But then one day the "leader oif the pack" of runners decided to "show old Dad who was really boss" and turned to run up a sideroad driveway and so the others followed. . The leader was waaay out front when he suddenly turned around and came running back faster than before screaming "Run, Turn around and RUN!!!!" He found himself being chased by a BIG dog.

Well, needless to say, that ended the "roadwork" days in our van, because no one wanted to risk being chased by a mean-looking, wild dog.again. And we parents realized we had lost control when the kids were spread out over a quarter mile ahead of us. The kids could have turned in all directions ahead of us. Then what would we do?

Sometimes I feel with my business today, like I felt back on that last Roadwork day . I feel like My business is spread out all over the place, and I have lost control. Or perhaps I wasn't controlling it in the first place? I listen to various ideas and find myself distracted from my ultimate goal. This is probably my worst enemy to my business - DISTRACTION!

Let's face it, our lives are full of distractions.

  1. Our Family
  2. Phone Calls
  3. Facebook,
  4. Social Media
  5. Basically everyday life
  6. Emails

What's a person to do? You can't ignore family. Just try it a few days and see where that gets youy!

Phone Calls can be categorized into essential and non-essintial. I have had to
not answer if I don't recognize the caller. and then block every scam callers' number on my cell phone.

As for Facebook, this is one that takes self control.Perhaps allowing yourself only a given amount of time on FB would help. I use FB for business and so I have to spend a little time there. But that isn't the distraction, it's when you spend hours upon hours of time wasting time trying to catch-up with all the friends goings on that's the distraction.

I wish, ohhh how I wish I had the answer to Distractions. I'd love to hear your experience. Thanks for reading.

Blessings

Linda

Hello Linda,

I believe distractions are part of our own life,
sometimes we have to block them out,( very hard for me to do so)
but most of the times are a natural personal
subconscious inbuild response to life that surrounds us.

How can I not be distracted!
even the Guards that diligently have been trained to concentrate on their job will be distracted on some stage of their day!

best wishes

Pietro

You make a very good point when you say "even the Guards that diligently have been trained to concentrate on their job will be distracted on some stage of their day!"

Linda

it's my pleasure to participate
in your post

Thank you

I never answer the phone if caller ID shows an out of area number and rarely if the call is from my own area code. I have over 1000 numbers in my call blocker app yet I still get these scam and robo sales calls every day. If it is a legitimate caller they can leave a message and if they are worth talking to I'll call them back at my convenience.

I agree with you on those robocalls. Like you said "If it is a legitimate caller they can leave a message and if they are worth talking to I'll call them back at my convenience."

Classic Linda, the good old are we there yet. The charm is living long enough to see it perpetrated on the instagators as they deal with their kids.

Distractions are everywhere, learning what our triggers are is the first step to creating change.

Really enjoyed your post.

Alex

Thanks, Alex for your kind remarks. You know how the saying goes "what goes around comes around." My kids are all reminded every day of my famous words "I hope you have a kid just like you" and they do - in spades. haha

Glad you liked my post. My kids will sure get a kick out of it when they read it.

Best wishes,

Linda

Linda you do have company in that area, you are not alone. however, I would try very hard and just focus on one thing daily, or plan out hours for each thing need to focus on.

Stay bless.

Elizabeth

Those are good ideas. I usually write down what I want to accomplish for the week and then set out to do them, checking them off as I get them done. I really do keep moving forward. But still have some unfinished items.

Linda

I'm new to using ANY social media. I refuse to bow down, grin. I have found that by setting a goal if doing the work first, provides me with plenty of time to 'catch up.

Facebook is a tool I use to get exposure to my websites. Nothing more..

However,, am still learning the navignavigation ropes on instagram...grin.

I haven't even started Instagram, or tweeting

I opened a fb and an instagram...both are 'probies'...lol Not sure whether I will keep them yet...
