How easy is it to build a new Twitter account?

Yes I am a fan of twitter I confess and think that twtter and other social media platforms are greatly underused here.

They are a free source of traffic. What's not to love?

I started a new Twitter account a few days ago and it occurred to me that I could use it as an example for those starting out on Twitter.

Yes, I do have the advantage of having been on there for 9 years and a regular user on and off for probably 7 of those years. (Guesstimates) There is also an advantage I suppose in that I have 2 other accounts. The main one I have had the longest and the second one I started last year, then mostly ignored for several months while I got to grips with the training here.

So each morning I go to this account as well as my others and follow back my new followers. Then I go retweeting a lot of diverse tweets that interest me. (I look at notifications for the bigger accounts to retweet for those that have RT'ed my tweets)

Now WHY would I do that?

Because some of those people will follow me. I will then follow them back as it shows they are at least vaguely interested in what I do but more importantly it means they are team players.

Why does that matter? Because they will retweet my tweets just as I will retweet theirs. It's working together.

I also check each day that none have unfollowed after I followed them back.

Does it matter? Yes! Absolutely! If they unfollow after YOU have followed them back, they are NOT a team player and only out for themselves. I consider it to be arrogance. They want their tweets to go through your timeline but NOT yours to go through theirs.

Does that seem fair? No, it's not. If they don't want to build their business though, that is their concern because I do and I want to mix with those that want to succeed just as I do.

So a diversity of people is good. If you only follow those in the same business you won't get far as you need a wider audience to be interested enough to come to your website and read some posts.

Plus like ripples in a pond your tweets will spread much further with subsequent retweets thereby introducing a whole new potential audience they wouldn't have got if you stayed in the same safe bubble.

Okay, back to the new account. In just a few days it has now got 41 followers. This is pretty good as I don't go out following people randomly. I just retweet a few of their tweets and see what happens.

I learnt this years ago as so many don't bother to follow back for a variety of reasons.

So for the reasons stated above: interested in what I do and/or team players, I wait for people to follow me then follow back.

Do always check their twitter feed though as like any other platform you get weird stuff and weird people. I wouldn't want even my adult grandchildren, let alone the teens and younger ones looking at tweets on my account if they were any with swearing, pornography or anything else I consider questionable.

Will give another update in a week ish and see how it is going.

Hope this has helped you with twitter strategies.

I have been using Twitter for about a year now (actively)

The number of followers slowly grow - but nothing signifiant yet.

Although I believe there is a huge potential so I keep coming to Twitter every day and I follow back my new followers, do the retweets and so on - as you advise.

thanks a lot :)
Mike

It does take time and effort Mike, but the more it grows the more interaction and the more followers you gain.
When you get to about 10-15,000 followers it tends to take on a life of its own for a while and grows much faster. Then you get to the mid 20,000's and you have to make an effort again for a while.
It does produce results, the more followers, the better the results.

I never really got into twitter , but now I think it might be worth a try.

It took me a couple of years when I started Jack, I just couldn't see the point of it. Once it was explained differently, I got it and never looked back.
It is definitely worth taking a bit of time to do. The more followers you have the more impact each time you share to twitter.

Good info and advice Linda. I am in the process of setting up Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and FB for all my sites at the moment.
It is one of the weekly goals this week.

Thank you Roy. Once you get started, it's actually quite quick and easy to set them up

I set up the Instagram, Pinterest and FB pages for that site yesterday as I had done the Twitter one a few days ago.

Good luck with setting up yours.

Great information to have - and something I am going to have to look at doing. Although I have a twitter account I do not use it on a regular basis, as of right now anyway.

Thanks for your post and information - and have a great day!

Best regards,

L.D. Sewell

Glad it helped Ld and thank you for the tip earlier, lol.
The key is regular usage with twitter. I do mine as the first job every morning. All 3 accounts are growing nicely.
Once you get into the habit of it, it gets much easier and faster.

Your not going to get any money out of that hubbub!

It's not meant to be a tutorial Garry, just a way to show that you can build a twitter account reasonably fast with a bit of effort. Seemed an ideal time as I just started the new account.
