I am going to have to suspend membership for a while. If I need to move my domain, how can I do this if I cannot log in to WA?

You will have 30 days to back up your website and save it on your computer or move it to another hosting company. After that time it may be removed from the servers.

Thank you very much. That was very helpful. I have completed that task.

Hope you're not leaving us Linda. You've been learning so much, I think you'd benefit sticking around to learn as much as possible here at WA.

You will be able to login to access your website. You can also access it from WP login. Just keep your login in name with you along with your password.

Thanks

Good luck come back soon :-) Jacqui M

This is not so. The site must be moved to another server. They give one month to do so after you stop paying.

I have chosen things to be on my sidebar. I am using the theme Twenty-Seventeen. I have chosen both one column and two column, but in neither one does my sidebar show up. I

My keywords were removed from my seo keywords section. Anybody know why this happened? Thanks.

Using Keywords in the SEO keywords section is an old technique that has been removed. Your keywords are determined from your content.

There is no need to add them to this section.

Hi Linchi,

Twenty Seventeen allows you to pick between a one and two column layout. This can be changed via Appearances > Customize.

Go to Static Home Page - Choose Static Page

Click '

Does choosing two columns allow me to add affiliate banners in one of the columns?

I have not tried that.

Technically speaking, it should because the option would open the layout into 2 columns.

I do plan to do this too. And will find out in time. Will update you when I do.

I went to the twenty seventeen forum and it looks like I am going to have to revert to the twenty sixteen theme. I am not sure I will be able to do that without losing some of what I have done. I will backup and give it a try. One of the comments indicated there are two footers but not a real sidebar. I found that to be true, but have not been able to add anything to the footer yet. My only choices for a sidebar appears to be social media icons.

I am sure they will do something about this, especially if the community requests for it. It is something so basic, isn't it?

I did find a workaround. But not sure if you would like it. Have you heard of Page Builder?

It's not the most elegant solution. And I haven't really tested it fully. I'll dive deeper after Chinese New Year. :)

I have not heard of that. Not sure I have the tech experience to work with something like that. I will await to hear from you as to how to fix this. I need to get past this step in the course, but I seem to be stuck until I can figure out this template issue.

Hi Linchi,

A thought just crossed my mind -

I kept thinking that you want to have the sidebar for Page. So far, for Page, as I mentioned in my earlier messages, there is no sidebar, and it will require coding to have that.

BUT for Posts - You can have sidebar - see my post - https://asiatravelgems.com/best-places-to-visit-in-thimphu-bhutan-changangkha-temple-aka-changangkha-lhakhang/

Are you not having the sidebar to your posts?

Until I read your comment, I did not realize that there was a sidebar showing on the posts but not on the page. So, is it possible to have that show on the static page or not? I may just need to make a post my home page. Can I make the most recent blog my landing page or home page that will update every time a new blog is added?

For Twenty Seventeen theme, sidebars are shown on posts but not on pages. To have sidebars on pages, you will need to do some coding. I would recommend keeping it as it is unless there is a real reason why you need sidebars on pages. After all, your affiliate links are going to be on posts only right?

Yes, you can make the most recent posts on the home page. But the homepage does not have sidebar. It is designed that way for the basic template. As mentioned, it will require coding (e.g. creating child theme + CSS, etc), to create sidebar on your homepage.

Take a look at my websites (both using Twenty Seventeen theme):

For timotheuslee.com - you can see that I have created sections to feature content from pages on the homepage. This is done using Appearances > Customize > Static Front Page. After you select A Static Page, go back to the Customize option. You will see Theme Options. This new option allows you to feature sections on your homepage.

Alternatively, on Static Front Page, you can select Your Latest Posts. When you posts new posts, the posts will be featured on your homepage.

I will play with that on Monday when I get back to the office. I would like to do the grid type setup that you have.

Sure.

I used Content View for the post grid setup. But have now moved on to The Post Grid plugin. Both good.

Here is my post about how to do the Post Grid setup -

Thanks Timotheus for the link. I will certainly give it a try. One day I may have my site to where I am able to post rather than "fix" things.

Hey Linda,

Doing a quick Google search for "TwentySeventeen - sidebar not showing" (without the quotation marks, of course). Have you tried doing that? If not, there may well be a resolve already out there waiting for you to discover it. Just a thought...

I will give that a try.

The only answer I got was that I needed to revert to the twenty sixteen theme.

I had a look at twenty seventeen and it only has one sidebar.

But it does not show up on my site.

but why do you have two sidebars when there should only be one.
Have you updated your Wordpress to 4.7.1 yet?
20/17 wont work without the update.

I don't have two sidebars. I have two footers, but have not been able to get that formatted correctly either. It is my page that has two columns or one, not the sidebar. Yes, I have updated.

Have you tried it with Tables instead.
This can sometimes work better than columns I have to head off home now so get back to me later if you're still stuck.
Robert Allan

Two or one column is an option with the theme. Not sure about tables. Thanks for trying to help.

Perhaps you can use a column plugin.
Robert Allan

Yes, I should have one sidebar, but I don't have one at all showing.

Hello again Linda and a nice Thursday morning here in Edinburgh.
I have one more suggestion.
I know Loes - https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/loes - did a training in Columns so perhaps you could contact her and ask her advice.
Enjoy your day.
Robert

Thanks. I will do that.

No probs and let me know how you get on.
Robert

I'm going out of town fir a few days wiyh lsptop. Hope I csn figure it out then. Have a great weekend.

Dont know what you mean by - wiyh isptop - but enjoy and get in touch when you get back.
Robert

with laptop. I should proofread my own stuff. fingers too big for phone keyboard.

One more thing before you go Linda.
I published a blog this week on having a mobile business.
Perhaps you might like to read it as I believe this would be ideal for you. Enjoy your day dear lady and come back soon.
Robert

I have the same problem that's why I stay at home and use my Desktop with a bigger keyboard lol.
I will be going out for the day soon and no laptop or phone (I love the peace and quite lol)
Robert

I am. Certified Virtual Assistant. I may use your post on my site if you don't mind.

Dear lady you feel free to use anything of mine you believe can help you in your own efforts.
You get stuck, you send me a PM but remember the time difference for a reply if there is one.
I will be signing off soon as there's a hot bath with my name on it.
Robert

Thanks for that. I will use your post and put it on my site to emphasize the need for a virtual assistant. It is hard to monetize my site though without the ability to add affiliate banners. Maybe someone from support will be able to help me. I will send them a ticket.

Hi Linda
Where on your site do you want to add a banner?
Perhaps I can help.
Its usually an easy thing to do.
Robert

Linda just came from another question on 20/17 and the reply was -

That plugin is for the theme called "Simpleshift". It doesn't work with any other theme.
Robert

I want to have them on the right side. I would also like to have the titles if blog posts on that same side.

The best way to put banners on your right sidebar is within a Widget.
For this you need a Code - do you have a Code?
Robert

Obviously not because I don't know where I would get the code or where I would put it.

Where are you getting the banner from?

I have not yet chosen which one I want to use. Fir now, one fir WA would let me know if the sidebar is working.

WA has its own banners with codes and they work well with Wordpress.
Give me a minute and I will tell you how to get them.

Click on the WA Affiliate Program left side of your screen.
Click on Banners at the top of the screen and scroll down until you see one you want.
Your Affiliate Link is already embedded in them.
Robert

I understand how to get the code for WA, I just can't put it in a sidebar.

Linda you put the code in a widget.
Your Wordpress
Appearances
Widgets
Drag the Widget from the left over to your Sidebar
Click the little black triangle and in the drop down space insert the code
Make sure the measurements will suit the sidebar
(I usually keep mine to 300x250)
This will depend on the size of the sidebar.
remember to SAVE.
I am going to head off home now but get back to me later ok.
