There are many things you can get the freelancers at upwork to do. Instead of just writing/creating content, you can also get freelancers to help manage your site, design it, etc. etc. You can even set up a company which consists of mainly upwork employees. This can easily be done with their hourly pay mechanism (they also has a one-off payment which is more suitable for article writing).
I've done mostly article and content writing, including writing a travel book for Philadelphia.
Some folks want other's to do their writing for them or do the website work.
Upwork is one of the more popular.
