you will probably have to change these lead funnels for your lists often, or at least the invite text to it.. fit them in with your articles you publish. Content vs lead magnet etc.
I suppose a lead magnet you are talking about a giveaway or something? In that case it should be interesting for the visitors that you are attracting with the content you wrote for them. Is it still doing that? That is where the answer lies to your problem.

Popular lead magnet suddenly zero?

Perhaps the signups were bots. I get heaps of signups every day that are not real people.
Try a different lead magnet and method of collecting subscribers. Using a double optin helps to eliminate the bots.
The ones I'm getting these days use a series of numbers and letters for their first name. And they don't reply to the confirmation email.
Yes, they look like real emails but the first name is a series of numbers and letters. Whatever bot is doing this has scraped some real email addresses which they are using.
Use a double opt-in and you'll eliminate the bots.
Exactly. After a while they leave you alone and harass someone else.
The email addresses are real but they didn't choose to subscribe to your list. So anything you send to them may get marked as spam and your email provider may cancel your account.
Did these people actually visit my site or they are just taken from somewhere else? Is there anything to do to prevent them?
They are not real people, they are bots. To prevent them you need to use double optin where you send an email asking subscribers to confirm that they want to receive emails from you. If they don't respond then you don't add them to your list.

Thanks Marion! How do you know if the signups are bots?
