Taking Care of Business

Now those are not my Google Stats.

I am working on it though one day at a time. There are a few basic factors I keep overlooking. Yes guilty as charged. My sentence lack of traffic to my website. Back to the training, I often have to go back. My brain is not a sponge like it once used to be.

I see the importance of blogging here, but I do get caught up in the e-mail from my friends at WA. Actually I spend a large portion of my time, reading, answering, offering my two cents (be warned I am about to do that). I like to read about what is happening with you, your stories the tutorials and hear your suggestions.

Yesterday I read something that I would like to share with you. I thought I would share this with you. It is what WA is about and I hope it may be of help. I know it made me re-focus as to the ingredients I use in my recipe to cook up a delicious meal to be served to my audience. My meals have been bland. Perhaps the crock pot Keisha uses is something I should think about.

In this case my crock pot will be contain a different recipe. Add some keywords, mix in some back links, internal links, get rid of the redundant sauce. Add some nouns, pronouns make sure, how about that organic SEO traffic. OK lets, get this baby rolling. Goal indexing.

One of the best parts of putting effort into getting every page indexed is that it's somewhat self-sustaining for years down the road. Note however, that getting indexed is not the same as how well you rank for a given search phrase.

To start, let's say you get the domain picked up by Google - usually it's the default index page, whatever it may be. Ideally, every page on your site should be accessible within two clicks from the index page. Preferably, they should be accessible within one click, but that's not always feasible.

Another thing you should be doing is internal cross-linking both for indexing purposes and to make for a better visitor experience. For example, let's say that you've got an article about dog breeding that goes into some general details. You might talk about dog health in that article and should link that to an article about dog health. Did that make sense? You won't be penalized for doing this - just don't overdo it; 2 or 3 cross-links in an article would be fine and dandy.

The same is true to work in links to other sites you own that are indirectly related to your dog breeding site. For example, let's say you have an article about breeding dogs internationally. You can write the article in such a way to work in links to your vacation, travel, hotel or similar types of sites. Link to an article say on, bringing dogs abroad on holiday, etc. Make sense?

I tend to think of linking in terms of Taxonomy - on some level, almost everything is related more or less. It's OK for a dog site to talk about other types of animals - indirectly, they get classified as pets or domesticated versus wild animals, etc.

What I'm really getting at here of course is the concepts of LSA and LSI (Latent Semantic Analysis and Latent Semantic Indexing). very simplistic terms, LSI is based on the concept of intuitively understanding something from its contextual meaning rather than from keywords.

When we target specific keywords, we're locking our indexed pages into just being found on those keywords (sort of anyways). When we target a keyword contextually, we're vastly expanding on how an indexed page might be viewed. In this respect, less is better and redundancy has to be avoided.

Going back to dogs (man, I've got dogs on the brain today!), if we heavily targeted the phrase "dog collar", we're losing out on a wider variety of terms that we could otherwise be found on. For example, replacing the word dog with: pooch, mutt, K9, etc., and of course collar with restraint, chain, choker, etc., we eliminate the redundancy and will receive more hits on the synonyms used.

Through the use of a broader, semantically accurate vocabulary, the search engines are able to more clearly include your pages in relevant search results. And they will be self-sustaining over time because they are relevant on multiple levels rather than just one.

I know that might be a little confusing and difficult to grasp at first, but think of it in terms of having a conversation. For example, we might use a proper noun once and then refer back to it as he, she or it - pronouns replace the proper noun, but you still understand the topic from this context. Basically, if you try to write conversationally when preparing articles, you'll do this automatically without getting mixed up!

I should point back that linking and organic SEO traffic are long-term solutions. That's why I encourage everyone to do just one productive thing today that will have an impact on your traffic 3 to 6 months from now. Once you get in that groove, you'll start seeing the difference for yourself :)

Well now the taste test. OK, there are other ingredients that can be added. For now, I have to see how this is going to work. Everything is one step at a time. I do not have the convenience of an elevator or escalator. Yes, for now, I will use what I can access. Wow, there is a ladder over there and I may need to use it. It has to be secure and supported. Either way if I fall, I know the foundation the ladder was placed on was solid. This foundation, is "The Wealthy Affiliate" and that for me is pretty solid.

You have EVERYTHING tucked up in that great mind of yours Micheal. :) And you can write so well.
Go doggy go.
And yep, I always open up the thesaurus when I write about stuff I haven't had the frequent opportunity to write about and get down as many alternatives as I can and sit them in front of me.
Often spend an entire day coming and going from that article and deep think about what to write.

So glad your getting your drive on bro. Excited to see you catapult into the legend you are here to be!

Your Faithfully
Brother Rob

Hi Rob,

Thank you for your comments. Much appreciated.

Brother Michael

Once again you've stepped up to the plate. There is plenty in here that I was not aware of. I do like a good 'synonym' after all. Makes total sense, thank you.

Goodness Michael, what a lot of information. I have had to read your blog 3 times so far to try and assimilate all those fantastic pointers. But I do understand that the conversation has to flow. Jim

Thank you Angelica. Much appreciated.

You have made an excellent point about getting every post indexed. I have to go to Google and check mine...most are, but on the ones that are not, will request indexing. Thanks.

Hi Fran,

I owe a lot to you. You have supported me, guided me and are an exceptional friend.

Thank you,

Michael

Michael, of course I have supported you. It's part of what we do, isn't it? I value your friendship, too, and will continue to support you, as you do for me.

AI via LSI/LSA is changing how we have to think...I think. ;-)

Thanks Michael,
I like your recipe ideas!
