Hi WA family,

Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the nurses, health care professionals and first res ponders. Yesterday was nurses day around most part's of the world. Thank you nurses.

All we have been hearing about is Covid-19. Well I decided to do some research on building up your immune system. This way you have a greater chance of fighting any disease and staying healthy.

Clearing up the air first, thank's to a comment I received on an article about covid-19, not being airborne.

Kate Vergara Ph.D., MPH 3rd degree connection3rd Global Public Health Consultant. Chicago, Illinois.

“Covid-19 is not airborne,” she says. “It is transmitted through droplets — being coughed on, or touching something that someone coughed on, for example, and then touching your face and allowing that pathogen to get into your system through your eyes, nose, or mouth.”

The National Post

While the aerosol spread of COVID-19 would be terrifying, data we have so far suggest it's unlikely -- droplets seem to be the primary form of contagion.

CDC. Centers for disease control

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.

Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

The World Health Organization

WHO is considering “airborne precautions” for medical staff after a new study showed the coronavirus can survive in the air in some settings. The coronavirus can go airborne, staying suspended in the air depending on factors such as heat and humidity, WHO officials said.

The India Times

Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, head of the WHO’s emerging diseases and zoonosis unit, underscored the need for healthcare professionals to take extra steps to protect themselves when performing certain procedures— such as incubation—on patients with COVID-19 or those suspected of infection.

“When you do an aerosol-generating procedure like in a medical care facility, you have the possibility to what we call aerosolize these particles, which means they can stay in the air a little longer,” Dr. Van Kerkhove said.

Medical staff is especially advised to take precautions as they usually perform aerosol-generating procedures and thus are more susceptible to infection than anyone else.

Airborne spread of Covid-19 not reported so far: WHO official.

Airborne spread of Covid-19 has not been reported so far and it is transmitted mostly through respiratory droplets and close contact, Regional Director of WHO South-East Asia Dr. Poonam Khetarpal Singh said on Monday.

I do have the links on my site.

OK, let us start building up our Immune System, and continue this practice this throughout our lifetime. How about starting with the best free doctors.

Carrots, kale, and apricots for beta carotene

Beta carotene gets converted to vitamin A, which is essential for a strong immune system. It works by helping antibodies respond to toxins and foreign substances, Majumdar said.

Oranges, strawberries, and broccoli for Vitamin C

Vitamin C increases blood levels of antibodies and helps to differentiate lymphocytes (white blood cells), which helps the body determine what kind of protection is needed, Majumdar explained.

Eggs, cheese, tofu and mushrooms for Vitamin D

NOTE:

Eggs may not be the best for you. There are always two sides, and I was made aware that eggs may not be good for you. If you suffer from:

Fibromyalgia, Lyme disease, Lupus, Prsotate Cancer. Please make sure you do research on what you put into your bodies. Thank you.

Vitamin D regulates the production of a protein that "selectively kills infectious agents, including bacteria and viruses," explained Dr. Michael Holick, an expert on Vitamin D research from Boston University who has published more than 500 papers and 18 books on Vitamin D.

Beans, nuts, cereal, and seafood for zinc

Zinc helps cells in your immune system grow and differentiate, Majumdar explained.

One meta-analysis revealed that zinc supplements may shorten the duration of symptoms of the common cold. However, it concluded that "large high-quality trials are needed" before definitive recommendations can be made.

Sources of zinc include beans, chickpeas, lentils, tofu, fortified cereals, nuts, seeds, wheat germ, oysters (including canned), crab, lobster, beef, pork chop, dark meat poultry, and yogurt.

Milk, eggs, nuts and more for protein

Protein is a key building block for immune cells and antibodies and plays a crucial role in helping our immune system do its job.

Protein comes from both animal and plant-based sources and includes fish, poultry, beef, milk, yogurt, eggs and cottage cheese, as well as nuts, seeds, beans, and lentils.

Bananas, beans and more for prebiotics

Probiotics and prebiotics help boost the health of the microbiome, which in turn supports our immune system, explained Majumdar.

Sources of probiotics include fermented dairy foods such as yogurt and kefir, and aged cheeses, as well as fermented foods such as kimchi, sauerkraut, miso, tempeh, and sourdough bread. Sources of prebiotics include whole grains, bananas, onions, garlic, leeks, asparagus, artichokes, and beans.

Water, fruit, soup and more for hydration

Finally, stay hydrated. "Mild dehydration can be a physical stressor to the body," Majumdar said. Women should aim to consume 2.7 liters or 91 ounces of fluids daily, and men, 3.7 liters or 125 ounces; an amount that includes all fluids and water-rich foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and soups.
I hope you may have found something here that you feel can benefit your health. I would love to add Yoga to this list also, as I think it is a great way to maintain posture, help with back pain and the list goes on. Perhaps I sit in front of this computer to much, and sitting for long periods of time is just not healthy.

Wishing you good health and prosperity here at WA.

All the best,

Michael

Wow - "I really enjoyed this article!" I have been blending a lot of fruits with a tall glass of water, letting it sit for 20 minutes, straining the seeds, and then adding a banana before the last blend. Trying to stay well, in this trying time of COVID 19 - floating around.

Again, I enjoyed your post.
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie, thank you for your comments. Fruits have always been good. I like the drink you are making, it must have great nutritional value's.

We have to take the necessary measures to protect ourselves from Covid-19, and all other diseases.

Best wishes and stay healthy,
Michael

Michael,

We are BIG on natural foods and aa fresh diet.
When I say fresh, we do our best to ensure that 60% of what we consume is made up of uncooked fruits and vegetables.
That means 1 cooked meal a day and no meats.

Your post gave me the reassurance that we are doing the best for our bodies and our families.

Thank you.
Cassi

Hi Cassi, thank you for your comments. We are in charge of our bodies, and we need to respect it. Proper diet and exercise, along with a bit of sunshine are the best ways to stay healthy.

Best wishes and stay healthy,
Michael

According to Anthony William aka Medical Medium, eggs is one of the "no-no's" because viruses feed on them.

Not gonna argue with anyone here but thought I'd leave this info and you can check his website or Instagram @medicalmedium

https://www.medicalmedium.com/blog/foods-to-avoid-for-healing-chronic-illness

I personally also eat less dairy and meat products. But especially in these times I'll take him on his word and just stay away from eggs at all.

Hi Zarina, thank your comments. There are always two sides to everything. I did go on the site you listed. You are absolutely right and I thank you for bringing this to my attention. The last thing I want to do is provide inaccurate information. Here are the things I found:

https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/ingredient-focus-eggs

https://www.heart.org/en/news/2018/08/15/are-eggs-good-for-you-or-not

Two sides to the story.

https://drwilliamli.com/eggs-healthy-or-unhealthy/

A number of studies have linked consumption of eggs to increased risk of lethal prostate cancer, cardiovascular disease and a variety of other chronic illnesses, and they have attributed this to the high amounts of cholesterol and choline that eggs contain.

However, other studies have concluded that eggs do not affect risk factors for cardiovascular disease, or even for other chronic diseases like diabetes, and suggest that the risk associations found in observational studies are more likely to be attributed to the dietary patterns that often accompany high egg intake.

In fact, when we look more closely at the overall context of the participants diets in studies examining egg consumption, we realize that it may well be the foods traditionally eaten alongside eggs that are increasing the risk of chronic illnesses: foods such as bacon, sausage, butter, cheese, and refined carbohydrates like white bread and sugar.

Why Are Eggs Good for You? An Egg-Ceptional Superfood

But among the worst examples are the false claims about eggs, which are one of the healthiest foods on the planet.

The way I make a decision is to weigh the good next to the bad. I will refine my post to say eggs are good for you unless, you are at that age to get prostate cancer, suffer from fibromyalgia, lupus etc.

Personally I will continue to believe in the benefits of the egg.

All the best,
Michael

It depends who you trust and what foods make you feel good right. When it comes to diet and health, there's only one person I trust - Anthony William aka the Medical Medium.

I myself was sceptical at first about the way he gets his info but I don't care, what he talks about resonates with me and helped me recover about faster after the surgery.

According to him, they do some sort of virus tests on eggs, so that's why pathogens, viruses etc feed on them now. I choose to believe him. But even before this info, personally I always felt "heavy" after eating eggs, so it was an easy decision for me.

Hi Zarina, I admire you for sticking to your beliefs. What works for some people may not work on others. I keep an open mind to everything. I learned something from you today, and I thank you for that lesson. I personally love shrimps, but my my sister is so allergic to them. I like peanuts, but I know of people who have gone into anaphylatic shock from eating them.

I am glad to hear you have found someone you call the Medical Medium. I respect you and I respect him.

All the best,
Michael

Wow!

I love these posts you do Michael. Hopefully this will clear up many of the misconceptions people have.
I'm still into the peanuts, which is good, as I don't eat dairy. I do have a mulit-vitamin everyday, just as a back-up.
Yoga, pilates and T'ai Chi are all excellent for a multitude of reasons. One is that it allows the body to operate in an optimum state. Full breathing and movement really aids our Lymphatic system, which in turn helps remove toxins and waste.
I had forgotten about lemon water, nice reminder, thank you.

Hi Twack, thank you for your comments. I needed to do more research on eggs. Like everything, there is good and bad. So I may have to refine my post a little.

I do practice yoga and Tai Chi, keeps me flexible and the blood flowing through me.
Eggs I guess can be compared to peanuts, as some people have quite the allergic reaction's to peanuts.

Don't forget to drink your lemon water now.

Best wishes and stay healthy,
Michael

You're very welcome Michael. I have a spare water jug ready and waiting, just need to buy some lemons, unless we have some lemon juice left, that's what I used last time.

Very informative! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Veronica,

Thank you for commenting and you are most welcome.

Best wishes and stay healthy,
Michael
