You'll NEVER Succeed Without This

Last Update: July 12, 2015

I'm on the deck looking at the ocean and I just finished a pretty intense conversation with one of my students. I do private mentoring.

And It got me to thinking and thought I would share my thoughts of one part of that conversation.

During our conversation he asked me this question "How come you seem to succeed at anything you put your mind to?"

And I had a very simple answer "It's my mindset"

The ONLY difference I have compared to many people is my mindset. I have spent years developing the mindset that there is no challenge I cannot overcome.

The word quit is not in my vocabulary. And because it's not in my vocabulary it's not in my thinking.

I have challenges, and I have then almost everyday. But when I have a challenge I don't look at it like "Oh great here we go again another challenge"

I look at like "ok here's something I did not anticipate, no big deal, that's life. Ok let's get to this, what can I do to solve this challenge and have fun doing it"

I devote all of my energy to solving the challenge, no matter what it is. I solve it and I move on.

But I use to be of the mindset when things came along and I would spend 90% of my time bitching and complaining about my challenges and not trying to really solve them.

I played the victim and I was more than happy to tell my victim story. And then one day, something inside me changed.

I decided I no longer wanted to be the passenger in my life and just watch what was happening. It was time I was the driver and take control of my destiny.

And that was over 25 years ago.

And since then I have still had challenges, hell it took me 3 years to make my first money online. But I never gave up, I can't - it's impossible for me.

Look this may sound cliche - But if I can do it anyone can.

I built my online business well before all the tools, resources and support of the WA.

I see people wanting to give up, and I don't get it. Really I don't.

One of the big reasons I see a lot of is "I don't have time" or "It's to hard"

WHAT!!!

If you truly want to change your destiny you'll make time. Even if it's only 1 hour per day, that one hour can and will bring you closer to your destiny.

And of course it's going to be hard, anything worth accomplishing is going to be hard.

When I was first starting with my first business, I sold my car to keep it going. And then three months later a guy came and offered to buy my company. And I sold it for a nice profit.

Now what if I was not willing to do whatever it took to keep my company going? I would have missed that opportunity.

If you have these words in your vocabulary "Quit" "I Can't Do This" "This Is To Hard" "Impossible" "I'm Not Smart Enough"

Or ANY word that is negative and puts you down.

Get them out of your vocabulary right now, they're serving you no good.

They're holding you back and guaranteeing your failure.

Or maybe you prefer failing.

Do not underestimate the power of words. The words you use with the conversation you have with yourself is determining your destiny each and everyday.

If you're constantly having a shitty conversation with yourself everyday, and I'm taking about that inner dialogue you have with yourself everyday.

If you're constantly telling yourself you can't do things or things are to hard - you'll never accomplish anything. So don't be so surprised if your life is not the way you want it to be.

But if you change your inner conversation to one of telling yourself you are unstoppable, and you can overcome anything - watch how your life will change.

And no change is not easy, you'll need to work at it. You need to educate yourself on how to develop the proper mindset and work at it each and everyday.

One book I highly recommend is the Awaken The Giant Within by Anthony Robbins. I lost count how many times I have read it

Actually the 30 day personal power tapes from anthony robbins is the first thing I used to change my life. And I still listen to them to this day.

Wow tapes, tells you how long ago I got them.

You can be a victim the rest of your life or you can be the master of your life.

The choice is yours.

Look I know I can be very blunt and straightforward and for some it rubs them the wrong way and for others they like it. But that was part of my change in life, no longer was I going to be a sheep and just nod and be part of the crowd.

I will say what's on my mind and no I don't care what people think of me. If I did I would never get anything accomplished.

I was told by one of my mentors "it's a waste of time worrying what people think of you, simple because people are not thinking of you as much as you think they are"

If I'm asked a question I will answer it and I will do it with respect. If you don't like the answer, honestly I don't care. You asked and I gave my answer what you do with the information is up to you.

I say all this because to forge your path in life there are 2 things you must do.

1) Develop an unshakable mindset of never giving up and that you can overcome any challenge.

2) Don't worry what ANYONE thinks of you - be you and be proud of who you are!!

One thing I absolutely know for sure is this:

If You Never Give Up You Can Never Fail!!

Oh one last thing, as you know I always end my post with "I believe in you"

This is not some tagline. When I say this I truly mean it. I believe in each and every person here in the WA. I absolutely know in my heart you have everything it takes to succeed.

All you have to do is do the work to get it done.

I believe in you
Leo

Wowza, I love your post Leo, and to be honest can relate to it completely. I too played the victim for years, and then I found "Conversations With God" would you believe!! It changed my life, I too didn't want to follow the crowd, I have been here with WA for nearly 3 years I think, and have never given up. Your post says it all, you have to become aware of the mind chatter and shut out the negative, and be more positive and grateful, thanks Leo. :)

Very interesting. It was something that early in my life I never really thought about... Being blind and scoring 31 on the ACT test was just the start for me. Picking a small religious undergraduate school / invitations from major universities initially may have seemed like a mistake... But graduating second in my class at Harvard, getting a presidential initiative award not once but twice and making 7 figures from my little software company in Houston was just the beginning. I can relate very much to your story. Having being hobbled by strokes still hasn't stopped my drive. I fully concur with your observations.

Leo how so true, I'm one of the insecure who always think "I'm too stupid for this" but I just never give up, I accept I may not be bright, so I just repeat 100 times if I have to and sometime along the line, it falls into place.
Thanks so much for this wonderful blog.
Reply
leoemery Premium
I trust you don't tell yourself "I'm too stupid for this" any more? Because first off you're not.

Remember words have tremendous power. The words you consistently use will shape your destiny.

By saying "I'm too stupid for this" you're reinforcing that. You need to consciously select your words.

What you're saying is very disempowering - time to replace those that empower you.

So you're not "too stupid"

You're "temporarily unresourceful"

Or

Your "discovering new things"

Or better yet your "learning"

Great post, Leo, I believe there is no such thing as a problem. They are only that if you call them that so yes it is certainly about mindset. I prefer the word "Challenge" cause I am definitely up to it.
Failure, not sure of the meaning of the word! I will work at what I want to achieve until I do. There is no other alternative!
Anyway, when I am presented with "Problems" I love it as I know immediately what I am going to be dealing with and I can strategize how to overcome them and turn them into something that works for me. That can actually be real fun if you can control the 'fear' feeling and just do it anyway!
Reply
leoemery Premium
Spot on, no problems just challenges.

All I have is challenges, and I can overcome any challenge that presents itself. To me it's a none issue.

I love your work Leo, always spot on and inspiring.

I have found that sometimes when a challenge comes up for me, I need to leave it for a bit. That might be just long enough to go for a walk, or it might be a few days.

Somehow the solution always comes to me, and that might be as simple as knowing that I have to ask for help, and where to find that help.

A mindset of confidence that the answer will reveal always itself. And it does.
Reply
leoemery Premium
I sometimes have to do the same thing - step away and actually not think about the challenge and clear the mind. Once my mind is clear I solution always comes

Very true and to the point. We can only achieve what we believe we can.

For the past few months I have been thinking more and more about my mindset and the influence it has on my life. Changing your own mindset is not easy and I so easily slip into past thought patterns. Recognizing these "wrong" thoughts is key to changing them. Some are missed in the busyness of life. Little by little I am noticing more these thoughts and can correct the way I think.

Thanks for sharing

This is part of the process of changing your mindset. Recognizing those negative thoughts (self talk) and changing them.

One really great way to do this is ask yourself more empowering questions.

When a challenge comes ask a question that presupposes success. Like the question I used in my post.

"what can I do to solve this challenge and have fun doing it"

Hi Leo, this is such a great post and truly from the heart. Like you I have had the same experience when one day I decided to take control and get rid of all my negative thoughts. It was Robert kiyosaki that did it for me, but ever since listening to his tapes I have gone on to build my own very successful driving school business which is growing quickly. However I now want to face the new challenge of building an online business. Nothing comes for free but like you say if you put in the hard work, the rewards can be great.

There is so much opportunity to change one's life if they are not happy with things. It's a shame more and more people do not take advantage of what's available.

Well that about sums it all up right there Leo...This helps remind me of some of the fundamentals that we know, but too often take for granted. Self-talk is way underrated these days so that self esteem, self image and self improvement are considered to be selfish and self-serving. I say to hell with all of that. Are those people going to pay my bills for me when I can't? Probably not...I'm responsible for myself and accountable for my achievements and for my failures. I say to myself all the time, "Time to put on the big boy pants and get er done" Thanks for the post - Doug

Good advice my friend! Keep on "telling it like it is". I do the same thing, and so far nobody's burned my house down :-). Seriously, it is a little risky, but it's the only way to truly help people, isn't it? You have to get your message out.

Your emphasis on mindset is dead on. You have to believe that 1. there is a solution and that 2. YOU can find it

Can I add one caveat to the discussion? The only way to have a permanent feeling of confidence is to do something. The achievement can be a small one. That's OK. But actual action toward your goal is a must.

Affirmations are great. Self-talk is powerful. But action alone will bring you permanent and real confidence. Again, small is fine. Size doesn't matter :-). But if I affirm every day but don't actually act, eventually my mind cannot sustain the lie. The affirmation actually becomes detrimental.

We need to use every tool God's given us to achieve our best. But don't forget that little one called "Action"!

Success,

Gordon
Reply
leoemery Premium
Affirmations alone have no power. You can tell yourself all day long that you're great or you're working towards financial freedom.

But if you're not doing anything to become great or create financial freedom your affirmation is useless.

A change in mindset goes far beyond positive thinking, again positive thinking alone is useless without action.

One thing I will take away with me from your post is that..... ' It is time for me to be the driver and take control of my destiny'. Great mantra :)

Lis.

You'll like being the driver far more than being a passenger

I love hearing that I may have helped in some small way. But make sure you thank yourself, you're the one that's doing the work and staying motivated and working towards your goals.

I believe in you too Leo :) You are inspiring. The time thing is a drag but little and often has to be better than nothing, ever.

As long as you are taking one positive step towards your goals - you will get there.

I'm glad you said about the one hour thing. I homeschool 4 kids and cannot put the time into my site that it probably needs, but I do put in what I can even if it's just an hour every 3 days. I do feel it's adding up slowly, success might take longer for sure but it will happen

It does add up, don't worry about the amount of time focus on the quality of time you can give to growing your business.

I know people that work many hours a day and accomplish less than people that can only work one hour a day.

You took the words right out of my mouth. ;)
It is not a matter of if, only a matter of when.
