Ok this is an update to a previous post I did about downgrading a premium membership to a free one.

And the answer to that is NO.

There is no downgrading once you are premium member you will always be set as a premium.

Then the question got asked:

If someone wants to take a break, and then continue from where he left off later on..is that possible?

And the answer is YES!

I put in a PM to Carson and here is his reply:

When folks leave WA they can always come back by simply resubscribing. To do so they just need to login to their cancelled account and follow the upgrade instructions. We always keep people's accounts available to resubscribe so that they can come back and pick up where they left off.

Their WA rank would most certainly drop as they would not be active while they were away, but blog posts, progress in training, and settings will all be available when they return.

I just want to add

You have 30 days to transfer you hosting for a domain you own once you cancel. And if you have free site rubix site(s) you have the same 30 days to transfer the content of the site(s)

Also if you cancel your membership and you don't transfer your sites within 30 days they will become disabled after 30 days

If you do come back at this point they can re-activate your sites. As Carson said to me they can re-activate a dormant site from 2 years ago with a click of a button. So they can do the same for yours.

So as of now they can restore your sites if they are deactivated after 30 from cancelling a premium membership

So if you need or want to take a break from the WA you can knowing that everything you have as a premium member will be here when you return.

Hope this helps clear thing up - it certainly has for me.

I Believe In You
Leo

I guessed the network is considerate understanding that some people might have one or two reasons for not resubscribing on time.

So just to clarify, I don't have to plan on finding another domain because I can rest assured that if I come back to WA as a premium member, let's say three years from now, they can re-activate my WA account and restore my website?
Reply
leoemery Premium
Your account will be here, as for 3 years from now that I'm not sure about - you would have to contact Kyle and ask how long they would store your account.

As for your website if you have your own domain (website) and it's hosted here - if you cancel you have 30 days to transfer your site to new hosting - if you don't your site will deactivated.

And if it's like any other host, your site cannot be restored, that's why you want to transfer it to a different host.

So, ok... I just talked to a girl that said she didn't transfer hers and she was made to repurchase her domains AFTER she had already bought them to begin with. Would this be accurate???
Reply
leoemery Premium
So she already owns (bought) the domain name? If so her only cost would be renewing (buying) the domain name once per year.

Or with many domain registers you can pay for your domain name for multiple years

Also it makes no difference where she is hosting her domain other then the hosting cost. Here it's free for premium members, else where it wil cost her to host.
Reply
PaulaKeen Premium
Yeah, I don't really know. Maybe her domains were expired and she didn't realize it.

I was going to say, it was my understanding as well that you won that domain for however long you've paid for it and as long as you continue to renew it.

I've often wondered Leo, if you only purchase the domain for a year, will WA send you a renewal if you've bought it through them?
Reply
leoemery Premium
Yep as long as you keep renewing the domain it is yours for as long as you do.

Every domain I own I get a 30 day notification that my domain is up for renewal, I would assume it's the same with the WA

okay, so I'm sorry, I still do not understand. I need to cancel for somewhere between 30 and 90 days. Why? Because I'm traveling like crazy right now and have not had one minute for my site in almost two months. My site isn't making me money and I don't have $50 a month to throw out the window. So, now you see why I would like to put this on hold until I can come back and complete the site. Simple questions, please give basic answers for someone who is not computer literate. If I cancel my premium membership today can I work on my site for the next thirty days or does my access to my site stop immediately? Will my site still be active for 30 days? After 30 days if I do nothing and want to came back to WA in 90 days will my site still be here?

So, basically you can't keep the two free websites ,you can't promote WA and get half the pay as a free member if you ever upgrade to premium and then cancel premium. What happened to those two free websites are yours to keep for life? Btw, there's tons of free website training on YouTube.
Reply
leoemery Premium
If you stayed a free member you would have access to those sites for as long as you like as long as you keep them active.

I also spoke to Klye regarding free sites and the time limit on free sites is 6 months if the site in inactive. So if a free site is inactive after 6 months the site is removed, this is to maintain server space.

People are contacted prior to the removal so they know and of course they can move to Premium if they want to retain their sites and use our services beyond that point.

You could also transfer the content from those free sites elsewhere (alternative hosting)

Since you upgraded to premium you would longer have access to those free sites because they would be part of your premium membership.

As for commissions on your premium account you only resume active commissions when you re-subscribe. You don't lose referrals when you leave, they are still connect, but you won’t' earn commissions while you are away.

So if I cancel my premium account, I can come back to it at a later time by logging in to it, and resubscribing to premium? I just need to move my website to a new hosting platform, if I want to continue working on it while I am away from Wealthy Affiliate?

Can i still update my blog even if i cancel my premium membership for a while?
Reply
leoemery Premium
If you cancel your premium membership and your website is hosted here you need to move your website to new hosting so you have access to it.

You have 30 days to transfer your hosting once you cancel. And if you have free site rubix site(s) you have the same 30 days to transfer the content of the site(s)

Also if you cancel your membership and you don't transfer your sites within 30 days they will become disabled after 30 days.

Now with that said - you can blog on your site prior to you moving it to new hosting.

Reply
leoemery Premium
On the same account yes. You could sign up again using new credentials, but you will not have access to anything from your premium account you will be starting from scratch.
Reply
Shari2Rescue Premium
Are you saying I could come back on the same account with a free membership, it sounds like the only way is to come back on a premium membership again.
Reply
leoemery Premium
Sorry I was not clear - no you cannot come back on the same account as a free member - once you upgrade to premium you cannot go back to a free account

If you decide to cancel your premium membership - and you want to come back you can reactive your premium account

As I said you could come back as a free member but you would need to join using completely different credentials- and you would not have access to your premium account
Reply
Shari2Rescue Premium
Thanks for clarifying. That is pretty rotten though. Since the premium is so great, they shouldn't have to make it impossible to come back under the free membership. Next time, I will know better than to ever upgrade.

I have asked support and I've asked Kyle neither one has returned my email? I know that very busy helping everyone don't ever my financial situation is not good as well therefore I will be leaving and hoping to return. Leo I want to thank you for your post I have read so many other post State and so many different things which I didn't want to hear but I'm hoping those other ones are wrong and I am going by this one. It has been my pleasure on meeting everyone and I'm really going to miss it. As I said before I do plan on coming back and I hope alright then. If anybody knows how to back my site up to my computer I appreciate it deleted in case it does get deleted I will have a copy of it. Also I'm not sure what to do about my affiliates that I'm working with right now and a half eBay in Walmart as well but haven't been able to do anything with them because my site it's not up to par? Therefore if anybody knows what to do about them I would greatly appreciate and answer as well. Thank you wa my life is changed since December 2016 I really need a break. Which is very sad because I probably could start making money at this point but my mind is not in it. Thanks again Donna

Thank you Marion however I was hoping to get a hold of one of the her gals I need to find out how to back it up and all my other good stuff first and what about all the other questions I had?
Reply
leoemery Premium
Hey Donna, yep don't worry all your stuff will be here when you decide to come back. Last I heard from Kyle they hold onto things for a few years.

When you do come back simply resubscribe on your current membership and then once you do contact support and they will activate everything for you.

As for your affiliate relationships don't worry about those - depending on the affiliate some will still be active when you decide to build your business again and other may get canceled, and you would simple need to apply again as an affiliate - not a big deal.

If you have money owed to you and have not met an affiliates threshold for payout - you need to contact the affiliate and ask what will happen to that money - if you're nothing, again nothing to worry about.

As it sounds like you're not going to transfer your hosting elsewhere - your site won't be available online, they will be deactivated so no one will have access to your affiliate links.

As for backing up things - simply do a search in the WA search bar, there are all kinds of tutorials on different ways of backing up your site and putting that backup on your computer with different services and plugins.

Here's one way to do it right from inside your wordpress websites dashboard - it's a basic backup - go to Tools, click on Export - once there choose All Content - then scroll down and click on Download Export File.

This will contain all of your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, terms, navigation menus, and custom posts.

As for canceling your membership Marion has the video about that - Hope that helps.

All the best
Leo

I am aware of the fact that you can transfer your paid domains to another hosting platform if you wish to cancel your premium membership. Is this true for the siterubix sub-domains as well?
Reply
leoemery Premium
Site rubix are the free sites, they are owned by the WA - but you own the content - and as you can't go back to a free membership once you become a premium membership once your premium access is denied you will not have access to your free sites.

So it's best you transfer your content from any free sites you have to either your computer or to a new host.
Reply
SuzetteH Premium
So if you copy your content to your computer, cancel your subscription with WA. Go to a different host, paste your content into a new website, would the search engines see that as duplicate content?

You can, but you only resume active commissions when you resubscribe. You don't lose referrals when you leave, they are still connect, but you wont' earn commissions while you are away.

Thanks, Leo for posting this, but I'm a bit confused. So you mentioned that we have to rejoin within 30 days of cancellation, but you also mentioned that our sites can be reactivated even after 2 years, so...

Do we have to return within 30 days or not?

Thanks again for blogging this. Huge help.
Reply
leoemery Premium
I never mentioned you have to rejoin after 30 days.

The 30 days referrers to your domain - if you have a domain you own that is being hosted here, you have 30 days after you cancel your membership to transfer your hosting else where.
Reply
Alyssa47 Premium
I see. Sorry for the misunderstanding, but would I be able to continue where I left off if I rejoin within 30 days? Meaning would I be able to keep my hosting and website?

And just to be clear, will my sites be reactivated when I return?

Not sure why you would want to cancel and then rejoin within 30 days - if you do that there's no point in cancelling - but yes your site will be reactivated when you return, you just need to contact support

I would also recommend contacting Kyle or Carson

Reply
ChrisGooden Premium
I suspect that WA will credit you with the unused part of your monthly payment. They have done similar in other situations.

Your next monthly payment is not due until after you take up the Black Friday offer so, personally, I'd cancel the monthly as soon as I order the annual.

Yes, it was set up like that but I was not completely sure. I have taken the offer so all's good.

You transfer it to the hosting company of your choice. There are dozens of them, just Google "web hosting".

Expect to pay around $15-$20 a month. Anything cheaper should send alarm bells - look for the catch (like "first year only", or "one site only" etc).

Hostgator has a Cpanel where I have access to more tools and such - plus as a hostgator customer I also have access and special pricing to codegaurd a cloud based backup service. And I also have 24-7 live chat support.

The WA hosting is more of a hands off beginner hosting program which works very well for most members - but not for what I need that's why I use hostgator

Hi I have a few questions... if you have a siterubix site can't you still run that as an affiliate?
It says you get commissions on the affiliate page if you are a free member they are just around halved. I still want to access my free site but not do the training etc for a few months and it costs $69 a month in AUS.
Reply
leoemery Premium
My thinking is since you won't have access to your premium membership you won't have access to the free sites that come with that account.

Now with that said I would contact Kyle or Carson and make sure that's correct
Reply
Kharizma Premium
I have already but no response so far. It is completely a waste of the rest of the months monies if I can't even access it after that if I can't pay so I might as well get a refund even prorata because I don't earn much atm and no point building it up this month if I won't have access. I think its a flaw in the system not allowing access to your page unless you have gone beyond a certain level of training where you know what you are doing and will be making money. If you are like me and still only accessed whats pretty much free to starter members that should be an exemption. They do promote that you can be a free member. Because unlike a person who has sat with a free membership for two months I have actually taken action and paid my money. I have put feedback and contacted Kyle but no response. Its been 4 days plus and no response. I am not happy.
Reply
GeoffGS Premium
This is my understanding of how it works. You can keep your free site, and make money off of it as you said. However, you have 7 days to go premium after which time you will lose all premium membership privileges if you don't sign up. That's a lot. I'm sure you could come back down the road a few months and re-register. I don't think you could take up your old siterubix with your new account. Geoff.
Reply
Kharizma Premium
I am paid premium currently though
Reply
GeoffGS Premium
Ok. I thought you meant you weren't quite ready to go premium. The answer (like it or not) is right up top. You cannot downgrade to free. Now I understand that with your situation, and for good reason I'm sure, you don't want to start yet. I'll get to prorated in a sec.
First, try to imagine what WA might be like if we could all downgrade anytime you like? It wouldn't likely be a WA that any of us would want to be a part of. It takes money to make things good. To pay people well, so Kyle and Carson can have a highly qualified and motivated team.

Now as far as prorating goes, I can't say what will happen. I can say that I've been late (on my first payment to boot), and Kyle was more than happy to let me slide a couple days. Kyle and Carson seem more than reasonable to me. How did you contact them? Are you sure it went through? Geoff.
Reply
Kharizma Premium
contacted them via PM on here... Contacted by the contact sheet form thing and thats it. I didn't know how else to contact them. I know what you are saying about free but if you haven't got to a certain level you then should be able too esp if you aren't making money. IF I get kicked out all together id be less likely to rejoin tbh.
Reply
Kharizma Premium
whats unfair is I have only gotten through the free training so far... so what I have paid $100 Australian for I could have got for free.. I am still relatively lost within it all and nowhere near earning money yet I can't have my free access because I was quickly sold into the premium $19 deal ($27) and now I can't go back. If I knew I couldn't go back I would have scrapped that whole sales pitch and waited. SO very very annoyed!
Reply
GeoffGS Premium
I'd try sending them an email. Kyle just responded to one of mine within 2 hours last night. I read your comment, and trust me, I didn't pass over the part where you wrote "I am not happy".
Now you haven't heard back in 4 days, and that could be for other reasons than they're ignoring you, or just lagging. They might have a lot of these requests right now. I've read there are over 100,000 members.

The point you made about making money is just off base. There was never a promise of money anywhere that I read before I signed up. In fact, quite the opposite. I was told it would take time, and hard work.
I'm also not sure when or how getting kicked out came about. I thought you needed to wait a while before you start the courses. Who's kicking you out?
Now if you want to stop paying for a while, but still make money on your free site, that seems unreasonable to me. Why would anyone ever pay, or return if this was the case? Best of wishes getting prorated, and I really believe that any other program out there would make WA look like Roses and Chocolate. Geoff.
Reply
Kharizma Premium
What point did I make about making money? my point what I am saying is its not like I learnt everything in those two months and am making enough money that I want to access free sites and make money whilst wealthy affiliate makes nothing. SO not sure why I can't go back to free membership for a few months and not be blocked out(kicked out it feels like) I also understand it takes a long time and hard work to be successful. My whole point is that people pay nothing right away and get same access as me I've been here two months and got the same training as them. I would be happy if I could at least work on my site still with content etc as a free member but now feel whats the point putting any effort into it for a few weeks to be blocked out.

If it's not for you, I understand your frustration. Once again, talk to Kyle via email. He is very reasonable. Geoff.

Hi and thanks. I also worked my butt off but changed from the niche site to bootcamp half way through...so I spent extra time on the changeover. Also struggling with my theme and technical issues and I should have just done the same and then made the commitment. It isn't obvious you can't go back to free though? Thats why I wish he would let me. So do you know his email? where do i find it?
Reply
GeoffGS Premium
Ok. That makes sense, and I totally see where you're coming from. It comes back to my earlier point. If they did that the whole thing that is WA (not just Kyle and Carson but thousands who make WA what it is) would be compromised. It would likely fall apart. So while it is a bummer in your situation, it simply is not possible. A large majority of people would just take the training, then drop down to the free site. Doesn't make any kind of business sense.
Reply

Yeah I agree but I think if you have accessed a certain level you can't go back to free. Or you can access it but your site isn't live for example. SO it makes you obliged to come back if you want to work it hard and have success. It totally makes sense I think. so ppl such as me who haven't done much can access it I feel totally hipped

Hi Leoemery,
Thanks for the detailed info. Due to various circumstances I'd like to cancel my WA premium membership for a few months.
I understand from what you say that I will be able to renew my premium membership at a later date and carry on where I left off, great news!!!
But, do you know what happens to my WA referral links during this period? Will I receive any commissions or benefits from any new paid referrals from my sites?
Peter

From what I remember Kyle telling me you will not receive any commissions since your membership is not active.

But you may want to PM Kyle and confirm this

Good info. I came here because my second payment failed today and I see a red bar on top.

The reason is that, I have no enough funds to pay the $47.00 this month. I have to ask Kyle if there is a way for the system to wait until I can pay.

I am willing to pay, but my online account has only $15.55 right now.

So to clarify, if I have my site on a domain I purchased at namecheap, I can cancel this membership for a short while and it doesn't affect my content whatsoever?
Reply
Ken-Pringle Premium
I believe they give you 30 day to move it to another host.
Reply
leoemery Premium
If you are hosting here you would need to transfer your hosting and website somewhere else, say Hostgator. You have 30 days from the time you cancel to make the transfer

Thank you Leo for the clarification.

Sorry to be thick, but am I hosted @ namecheap by buying my domain name there? I still use the siterubix here to edit content.
Reply
Ken-Pringle Premium
No Curt, if you edit here you are hosted here.
NameCheap is the domain registrar.
That is where you will renew your domain name in one year.

So my content would be disabled after 30 days but not deleted? And from what I've read from you, my content can be reactivated for 2 years? (Sorry to keep beating the dead horse as it were. Just want to be sure I won't lose content while taking a break.)

Hi Leo, I thank you for answering that all important question for me. I want to continue with WA as a premium member BUT have to temporarily cancel my membership for only one to two months. I didn't like the thought of having to start over when I return so it's good to know that I can return and pick up where I left off. Thank you and I will see you all when I return!!!

Leo, I had to take a break because of problems in my marriage, and my wife ended up leaving me anyway. So I came back and I went yearly to solve my membership problems, and it's working for me. I hope that will help someone.

There are several areas that have contradictions, the main one being
a) They will "not be able to log in"
b) To resubscribe "they can login to their cancelled account"

This is great but I'm confused. Just to check my understanding: I had to downgrade a good while back I think, I think I was able to do that? So maybe that's changed? Secondly, - I have paid for a full year's membership which is due to expire soon and needs to be paid again. I'm concerned I might not have all the funds to pay that in one go, - is it still possible to remain a premium member but pay the monthly fee until I have all the cash to pay another years' membership in one go? And would I lose any benefits/access to anything?
Reply
leoemery Premium
Yeah you can't downgrade, don;t think you ever could.

As for changing from Yearly to monthly, I don't think that would be an issue. And how you pay has no affect on your premium memberships benefits or access.

To make sure about the payment change I will PM Kyle and find out for sure. It could take a few days before he gets back to me, but as soon as he does I will post back here for you.

Leo, do you know if the affiliate ID would continue to work for the purpose of receiving referral commission at the reduced half rate after someone stops premium payments? ~Jude
Reply
ChrisGooden Premium
That's a very good question. I would assume that it does, and can think of no reason why it would not.
Reply
leoemery Premium
If you stop payments for a premium account it then goes dormant, and the commission if any associated to that account would stop.

The account does not revert back to a free membership, you can't do that. Once it's a premium account it stays one.

You would need to open a brand new starter account and begin everything from scratch in order to earn commissions at the free member affiliate rate.
